Select the visible area you need with Snipping Tool; the screenshot is copied into the tool, where you can review, edit, and save it. A screenshot records what is displayed on your screen—it does not bypass a site’s access controls.
Capture the signed-in page with Snipping Tool
- Sign in normally. Open the site in your browser and navigate to the page or content you’re permitted to capture.
- Open the capture overlay. Press Windows logo key + Shift + S. Microsoft documents this shortcut for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guide describes the available capture modes.
- Choose a mode and capture. Select rectangular, freeform, window, or full-screen capture, then capture the visible content you need. For most web pages, a rectangle around the relevant content avoids including browser tabs or account details elsewhere on screen.
- Review and save. The captured image is copied to Snipping Tool. Use its editing controls to crop or annotate, then save the image or copy it where you need it.
Choose the right capture method

If the shortcut does not work
- Open Snipping Tool from Start. Search for “Snipping Tool” and use its capture controls to choose freeform, rectangular, window, or full-screen capture.
- Check the keyboard’s Fn behavior. Some laptops require Fn with a hardware key combination. If there is no PrtScn key, try Microsoft’s documented Fn + Windows logo key + Space Bar alternative.
- Use a selected region if the full screen includes private information. Capture only the relevant part of the page rather than sharing account details, browser tabs, or unrelated content.
Review privacy and site restrictions before sharing
Inspect the screenshot before sending or publishing it. Crop or redact information that should not be disclosed, including names, email addresses, account numbers, and other details visible in the page or browser. Snipping Tool includes text recognition and quick redaction for recognized email addresses and phone numbers, but that feature is not a guarantee that every sensitive detail will be detected or removed.

A site or app may impose its own restrictions, including for protected video or workplace and banking content. Follow the site’s rules and capture only content you are authorized to share.
