To turn a webpage into editable Figma layers, use Figma’s Chrome extension: capture the whole page or select an element, then paste into a Figma Design canvas or FigJam board. For a static visual reference, take a regular browser screenshot and import or paste the image instead.
Capture a webpage as editable layers with Figma’s Chrome extension
- Install the Figma Chrome extension. Get it from the Chrome Web Store link in Figma’s extension guide and sign in with the Figma account you use for your canvas. Figma describes the extension as available on all plans.
- Open the page in Chrome. Navigate to the webpage you want to capture, then launch the extension from the toolbar or its configured keyboard shortcut.
- Choose what to capture. Select Select element, hover over the region and click it to capture just that element. Choose Capture page to capture the full page, including content outside the current viewport.
- Paste into Figma. Open a Figma Design file or FigJam board, click the canvas, then press Command-V on macOS or Ctrl-V on Windows or Linux. Figma places the capture as layers—such as frames, text, images and shapes—that you can move, edit or restyle.
- Prepare variables if needed. If you want existing Figma variables to bind during paste, add the relevant library to the file first. Figma attempts to match variables according to its binding rules; a match is not guaranteed.
The extension converts available webpage code into design layers. It may preserve some auto layout and font properties, but treat the result as editable starting material rather than a pixel-perfect reproduction.

Choose between editable layers and a static screenshot
| Method | Best for | What appears in Figma | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Figma Chrome extension | Capturing a page or element to continue editing its structure | Frames, text, images, shapes and other layers | Complex scripts, animation, canvas-rendered content or virtualized lists may not translate cleanly. |
| Browser screenshot imported as an image | A quick visual reference or a faithful static snapshot | A raster image, usually as an image fill on a layer | The image is not decomposed into editable text and layout layers. |
For an image, take a normal browser screenshot, then paste it from the clipboard, drag the file onto the canvas, or upload it. Figma supports JPG, PNG, HEIC, WebP and GIF; TIFF is supported in Safari. Its file browser can import PNG and JPG, and static image formats can also be imported directly into a Design file. See Figma’s image import guidance.

- The extension does nothing: Check that you are not on a privileged Chrome page, such as
chrome://or the Chrome Web Store. Try the capture from the webpage itself. - Paste adds nothing: Click inside the Figma Design canvas or FigJam board before pasting. The extension pastes the most recent capture; if necessary, capture the page or element again and paste it.
- A variable does not bind: Add the library containing that variable to the Figma file before you paste. Matching follows Figma’s rules, so having the library available does not guarantee every variable will bind.
- The full-page result is incomplete or distorted: Complex scroll-driven pages, heavy JavaScript animation, canvas-rendered content and virtualized lists may not translate cleanly. Capture the specific section with Select element instead. For pages that rely on canvas or animation, use a static browser screenshot if preserving appearance matters more than editing layers.

Other documented ways to bring coded screens into Figma
Figma’s coded-screen guide also describes copying design layers from a Figma Make preview and using the Code to canvas tool, generate_figma_design, through the Figma MCP server. For an ordinary webpage and a no-code workflow, the Chrome extension is the most directly documented route. Figma plugins are third-party scripts or applications, access can depend on plan or seat, and only one plugin can run at a time; a plugin is not required for the steps above. See Figma’s guidance on coded screens and plugin access.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot file before importing it into Figma, ScreenshotNeo can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF with one GET request. It is a screenshot API and MCP server for developers; it does not turn a webpage into editable Figma layers.

For example, save this cURL command as shot.webp (replace the API key with yours):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. It accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and each response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.
