Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesUse a browser automation tool such as Playwright or Puppeteer, wait for the API response that supplies the content, then wait for a visible page condition that confirms the browser rendered it. Take the screenshot only after both checks succeed. The initial HTML or a completed network request alone does not prove that the API-fed content is visible.
How to wait for JavaScript content to load before taking a screenshot
The reliable sequence is: navigate, listen for the relevant API response, trigger the action if needed, verify the resulting UI, and capture. The examples use Playwright with Node.js; adapt the URL, status, action, and locator to the page you are capturing. See the Playwright Page API for current method details.

- Navigate to the page.
domcontentloadedis enough to begin interacting; it does not mean API-populated content has appeared. - Arm the response wait before the triggering action. If a button starts the request, create the wait promise first so a fast response cannot arrive before the listener is active.
- Wait for the response and verify the rendered UI. A successful response may arrive before the page updates its DOM, so check a meaningful results locator too.
- Capture after readiness resolves. Set
fullPage: truewhen you need the entire page rather than the current viewport.
import { chromium } from 'playwright';
const browser = await chromium.launch();
try {
const page = await browser.newPage();
await page.goto('https://example.com', { waitUntil: 'domcontentloaded' });
const responsePromise = page.waitForResponse(response =>
response.url().includes('/api/results') &&
response.status() === 200
);
await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Load results' }).click();
await responsePromise;
await page.getByTestId('results').waitFor({ state: 'visible' });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
} finally {
await browser.close();
}
Replace /api/results with the actual endpoint and results with a locator for the content the screenshot must show. If the request happens automatically during navigation, arrange the response wait before navigation where practical, then still verify the rendered state before capturing. Playwright documents response predicates and page.screenshot() in its Page API.
How do I take a screenshot after an API call finishes?
Wait for the specific request rather than treating page load as proof that data arrived. Match the endpoint and, where relevant, the HTTP method and response status. The listener must be registered before a click or other action that triggers the request. Then add a page-state check: for example, wait for the results region to become visible, a loading indicator to disappear, or a known value to appear.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
For a condition more specific than visibility, Playwright also exposes waitForFunction. The right condition is the one that reflects the actual content required in the image; waiting for a generic page shell can still produce a screenshot with no results.
Puppeteer equivalent
Puppeteer provides page.waitForResponse, page.waitForSelector, and page.waitForFunction, followed by page.screenshot(). The pattern is the same: register the response wait before triggering the request, await it, verify the rendered result, and capture.

await responsePromise;
await page.waitForSelector('[data-testid="results"]', { visible: true });
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
Puppeteer’s Page API documents the response and page waits. Its screenshots guide covers page screenshots and element capture. For a single component, ElementHandle.screenshot() captures the selected element and attempts to scroll a hidden element into view by default.
Choose a readiness condition that matches the page
- Specific response: Use when the endpoint is known and the data request is the relevant milestone. Match URL, status, and method as appropriate.
- Visible UI state: Use to establish that the browser rendered the expected content. Prefer a meaningful results locator or known value over a generic shell.
- Network idle: Use only if the page’s behavior makes it meaningful. Playwright defines
networkidleas no network connections for at least 500 ms, but labels it discouraged for testing and recommends web assertions to assess readiness. A quiet network is not universal proof that a particular API-fed interface has rendered. Puppeteer’s guide demonstratesnetworkidle2for navigation, but that example does not make it suitable for every page. - Fixed delay: A sleep can be too short on a slow run and unnecessarily long on a fast one. It has no direct connection to whether the API response or UI update is complete, so prefer observable conditions.

Choose viewport, element, or full-page capture
- Viewport: Capture the visible browser area when the screenshot represents what a user sees at a particular size.
- One element: Use Puppeteer’s
ElementHandle.screenshot()when only a component matters; it attempts to bring a hidden element into view. - Full page: Playwright supports
fullPage: trueto capture the page beyond the current viewport. Confirm that the desired content has loaded before capture, especially if it appears below the fold.
See the Puppeteer screenshots guide and Playwright Page API for capture methods.
Keep repeated screenshots comparable
For visual comparisons, keep baseline generation and screenshot comparison in the same environment. Playwright notes that rendering can vary with the host operating system, browser version, settings, hardware, power source, headless mode, and other factors. Its visual comparison documentation says screenshot assertions wait until two consecutive screenshots yield the same result before comparing the last screenshot to the expectation; that helps with stability but does not remove environment differences. Mask or remove volatile regions when appropriate. See Playwright visual comparisons.

Troubleshooting missing or incomplete content
- The screenshot shows a loading state: Add a wait for the specific response and then for a results locator or other UI condition. Navigation completion by itself does not establish that client-side rendering finished.
- The response wait never resolves: Check that the endpoint substring matches the actual request and that the action really triggers it. If the request is automatic, set up the wait before navigation where practical. Ensure the status condition matches the response the page actually receives.
- The request succeeds but the result is absent: The response and DOM update are separate events. Wait for a locator or page condition tied to the rendered result, and verify that the locator targets the correct content rather than a placeholder container.
- The script times out waiting for a selector: Confirm the selector exists in the rendered page, that the result is expected for this input, and that the page did not display an error or empty state instead. Use a condition specific to the expected outcome.
- Network-idle waits hang or finish too soon: Pages with persistent connections may not become idle; conversely, an idle network does not guarantee the target UI is ready. Prefer response and UI assertions that directly describe the needed content.
- Visual output changes between runs: Hold the browser and host environment steady, and mask or remove changing content such as timestamps or rotating banners.
Or skip the browser setup
