How do I take a screenshot of a responsive website?
Capture it in Chrome
-
Open the page in Chrome, then open DevTools.
-
Toggle the device toolbar. Device Mode opens with a responsive viewport; enter the width and height you want to document.

-
Inspect the page. Make sure the viewport is narrow enough for the site’s responsive breakpoint and that its navigation is visibly collapsed, often into a menu button. Wait for the page to finish rendering.

Open the Device Mode menu and choose Capture screenshot for the visible viewport. Choose Capture a full size screenshot if you need the entire page, including content outside the viewport.
-
Open the saved image and check that it shows the intended viewport, collapsed navigation, and page state.
Chrome describes Device Mode as a way to “simulate the mobile user experience from your laptop or desktop.” Its viewport dimensions help trigger a site’s mobile layout, but the correct breakpoint varies by site. See Chrome’s Device Mode documentation.
Choose viewport or full-page capture
A viewport screenshot records the composition currently visible in the emulated screen. That is usually the right choice when you want to show how the collapsed menu appears to a visitor. A full-size screenshot includes content below or beyond that viewport and represents a different view; use it when the whole document matters, not as a substitute for the viewport image.

How do I capture a mobile view of a web page in Firefox?
-
Open Responsive Design Mode and set the target viewport dimensions.
-
Confirm the site has switched to its collapsed navigation layout and finished rendering.
-
Use Responsive Design Mode’s screenshot control to capture the viewport. Firefox also documents an enabled full-page screenshot button; if it is not visible, enable the screenshot icon in DevTools settings.

Firefox’s documentation covers Responsive Design Mode and taking screenshots, including full-page and selected-element captures.
How can I capture only the collapsed menu?
If the evidence you need is the navigation component rather than the surrounding page, Firefox’s Inspector offers a Screenshot Node action for a selected element. Select the menu element in the Inspector and use that action to capture the node. This is useful for isolating the component, but it is not a screenshot of the full mobile-page composition.

What to check when the menu does not collapse
-
The menu remains expanded: reduce the responsive viewport width and inspect the page again. The site’s own breakpoint determines when the collapsed presentation appears.
-
The screenshot shows the wrong layout: verify the dimensions before capture and check the saved image, rather than assuming Device Mode selected a particular phone layout.

The screenshot looks incomplete: wait for rendering to finish, then capture again. Choose full-page capture only if content outside the viewport is needed.
-
The emulated result differs from a phone: browser device emulation is not equivalent to testing on physical hardware. Chrome notes that Device Mode cannot simulate every aspect of mobile devices; use a real device when those differences affect the result. See Chrome’s guidance on emulation limits.

ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL directly through its screenshot API. One GET request returns an image or PDF; this example saves a WebP screenshot of the target page:
