For a normal visible-area screenshot on Windows, press Windows+Shift+S, select the region, and save it from Snipping Tool. To capture an entire webpage—including content below the fold—in one image, use Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot (formerly Web Capture) feature and choose Capture full page. Windows+PrtScn captures the whole display, not the whole length of a webpage.
The distinction matters: a full-screen capture records the monitor’s current display, while a full-page capture scrolls through a webpage and combines content that is not currently visible.
Choose the capture you actually need

Take a screenshot of a visible webpage with Snipping Tool
Use this route when everything you need is visible on screen, or when you want to select only one section of a page.
- Open the webpage and arrange the browser so the required content is visible.
- Press Windows logo key+Shift+S. Windows opens the Snipping Tool capture overlay.
- Choose the capture mode you need: rectangular, freeform, window, or full screen.
- Select the area, window, or display. The result opens in Snipping Tool and is also available for pasting.
- Edit or annotate if required, then press Ctrl+S in Snipping Tool to save the image.
Rectangular and freeform snips
Rectangular mode is predictable for a paragraph, chart, or image. Freeform mode lets you draw around an irregular shape. Neither mode scrolls the page, so content below the viewport is excluded.

Window and full-screen snips
A window snip captures a selected application window. A full-screen snip captures the displays as they appear at that moment. These modes still represent the current screen, not the complete document length.
Use keyboard shortcuts for the whole display
PrtSc: copy the screen to the clipboard
Press PrtSc to place a static image of the entire screen on the clipboard. Open Paint, an email, or another image-capable app and press Ctrl+V to paste it. Save the pasted image from that application.
Windows+PrtScn: save directly to a file
Press Windows logo key+PrtScn. Windows saves the full-screen capture in the PicturesScreenshots folder. This is convenient when you do not need to paste or edit the image first.
If the webpage extends below the fold, these shortcuts will not add the hidden content. Switch to Edge’s full-page feature instead.

Capture an entire webpage in Microsoft Edge
Edge’s Screenshot feature is the built-in choice for a long webpage. Microsoft’s current product material calls it Screenshot; older instructions and some interface text call it Web Capture.
- Open the target page in Microsoft Edge.
- Open the browser’s Screenshot command. Depending on the Edge release, you may find it in the browser menu, the toolbar, or the page’s right-click context menu.
- Choose Capture full page, not the area-only option.
- Review the resulting long image. Use Edge’s markup tools if you need to draw or add comments.
- Copy the result or save it to a file.
The full-page command is designed for pages that continue beyond the visible viewport, including long or moving webpages. Exact button placement can change as Edge is updated, so search the browser menu for “Screenshot” if you do not see a toolbar button.
When Screenshot is missing
On a managed Windows computer, an administrator can disable the Edge feature with the WebCaptureEnabled policy. If Screenshot or Web Capture is absent, check whether the browser is controlled by your organization before changing settings. A policy-restricted installation may require an administrator to enable it.
Developer fallback: Edge DevTools full-size screenshot
Edge DevTools includes a documented Capture a full size screenshot action. This is useful when you are already inspecting a page or when the normal Screenshot command is unavailable.

- Open the page in Edge and open DevTools.
- Use DevTools’ command or action menu and search for Capture a full size screenshot.
- Run the command and save the generated image when Edge presents it.
DevTools labels and menu placement can vary between releases. For a straightforward capture, use the normal Edge Screenshot workflow first; reserve DevTools for technical or troubleshooting situations.
Use Print when you need a document, not an image
Press Ctrl+P or open Edge’s Print command when your goal is reading, archiving, or sending a whole article. Confirm the destination and preview before saving or printing. Print output is laid out for paper or PDF and is therefore different from a pixel-for-pixel screenshot.
How to select the right method
- One visible paragraph, image, or control: Windows+Shift+S, then a rectangular snip.
- Everything visible on your monitor: PrtSc for clipboard use or Windows+PrtScn for an automatic file.
- The entire webpage in one tall image: Edge Screenshot → Capture full page.
- A developer workflow or a missing standard command: Edge DevTools’ full-size screenshot action.
- A clean reading or archival copy: Edge Print or Ctrl+P.
Troubleshooting Windows webpage screenshots
The shortcut does nothing
Make sure the Windows logo key and Shift are pressed together with S, and that the browser window is active. If you only need a full-display image, try PrtSc and paste into an image editor. Windows+PrtScn should save directly to PicturesScreenshots.
The capture contains only what was visible
That is expected from Snipping Tool, PrtSc, and Windows+PrtScn. They capture screen content rather than scrolling through a document. Reopen the page in Edge and select Capture full page.

Edge shows an area capture but no full-page option
Open the Screenshot command from another entry point, such as the page context menu or browser menu. If the full-page choice is still unavailable, the feature may be disabled by the WebCaptureEnabled administrator policy on a managed device.
The Screenshot command has a different name
Older Edge guidance uses “Web Capture,” while current product material uses “Screenshot.” Look for either label and check the browser menu if the toolbar location has changed.
You need to preserve the page as text or a fixed-layout document
Use Print (Ctrl+P) and inspect the preview before saving. A PDF is a print-oriented representation and may paginate or reflow content differently from a screenshot.
You need repeatable captures for many URLs
Manual browser shortcuts are practical for occasional work but become slow when you need a consistent viewport, a selected element, custom waiting, or automated file naming. An API can perform those steps without keeping a browser window open.

Controls useful for webpage captures
