If extended screenshot capture makes a web page reload, stop trying to scroll-capture it. Take ordinary screenshots of the visible sections, or—if you need a continuous copy in Chrome—save the page as a PDF. Android’s scrolling screenshot control is available on Android 12 and up on most, but not all, scrollable screens.
Try Android’s scrolling screenshot once
- Take a normal screenshot by pressing Power + Volume Down. If that shortcut does not work, hold Power for a few seconds and tap Screenshot.
- Look at the screenshot preview for a scrolling or expanded-capture control. If it appears, use it to extend the capture, then save the image.
Google says scrolling screenshots work on Android 12 and up “on most screens that allow you to scroll.” A page that scrolls normally is not guaranteed to offer extended capture, and the controls can vary by device maker. If the option is missing or using it triggers another reload, do not keep repeating the gesture.

Choose a fallback based on what you need

Save separate screenshots
Capture each visible section with Power + Volume Down, scrolling between captures as needed. This avoids relying on the extended-capture control, though the result is several image files rather than one continuous image.
Save a Chrome page as PDF
- In Chrome for Android, open the page and tap More → Share → Print.
- In the print preview, choose Save as PDF.
- Select a save location and save the file.
This produces a document you can read or print, not a screenshot. For offline reading rather than an image or printable copy, Chrome also offers a page-download option in its menu.

Why the page reloads—and what is known
The exact cause cannot be determined from the symptoms alone: the phone model, Android version, browser build, page, and gesture are unspecified. Android’s guidance explains that extended capture is limited to most—not every—scrollable screen; it does not establish that unsupported capture causes a browser reload. Avoid treating a setting, browser bug, or Android limitation as the confirmed cause, and do not assume that changing browsers will fix it.
Google’s Chrome engineering blog reported a 48% reduction in janky scrolls in Chrome on Android between 2023 and 2026, in a post published July 23, 2026. That is an engineering-reported scrolling-performance result, not a screenshot success rate or an explanation of an individual page reload.
