To screenshot a web page in dark mode on Windows, first make the page look the way you want in Microsoft Edge, then press Windows logo key + Shift + S and capture the visible area. Edge’s Dark appearance setting darkens the browser interface; to darken the webpage itself, use Web Remix’s Appearance > Turn on Dark mode option when it is available for that page.
Choose what you want to appear dark
There are two different things you might mean by “dark mode”: the Edge window around the page, or the page content itself. Changing Edge’s theme does not, by itself, establish that a website’s colors will change. Windows also notes that app-level dark settings are separate and that some apps do not support dark mode.

Set Edge’s browser interface to dark
- In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more (…), then Settings.
- Open Appearance.
- Under Overall appearance, select Dark.
This changes Edge’s interface appearance. If you need the website’s content itself to be dark, use the next method instead.
Turn on dark mode for webpage content
- Open the page in Edge and look for the Remix icon in the address bar.
- Select Appearance, then Turn on Dark mode.
- Check the page before capturing it; the option is available only where supported and the resulting appearance may vary by page.
Microsoft describes an Appearance Remix as a local change to your view during the browser session; it does not change the publisher’s original page. Microsoft also says that page data is not sent to Microsoft for this Appearance operation. Edge’s controls can vary as design changes roll out gradually. If the Remix icon or Appearance option is missing, check the current Edge version and its available Appearance settings rather than assuming another control path.

Capture the dark page with Snipping Tool
- Scroll and position the page so the content you want is visible, with the desired dark appearance already applied.
- Press Windows logo key + Shift + S. This opens the capture overlay in Windows 10 and Windows 11.
- Choose a mode: Rectangular for a selected box, Freeform for a hand-drawn area, Window for a window, or Full screen for the displayed screen.
- For a selection mode, drag or select the region to capture. The image is copied to Snipping Tool, where you can annotate, save, or share it.
Microsoft also documents PrtSc as a way to put a static full-screen image on the clipboard. The Snipping Tool instructions describe screen, window, and selection captures; they do not promise one tall image of an entire scrollable webpage. Capture separate visible sections if you need more of a long page in images.
Do not confuse print backgrounds with screenshot appearance
In Edge, Ctrl+P opens print settings. The More settings > Background graphics control affects printed output. It is useful when printing a page with its background, but it does not replace setting the page appearance and capturing the screen with Snipping Tool.
