On Windows, use Microsoft Edge’s Capture full page feature to save an entire webpage, or Edge DevTools when you need more control over the viewport. Neither documented method guarantees an image exactly 3840 pixels wide: “4K” usually means 3840 × 2160 pixels, while a full-page screenshot can be much taller. Check the saved file’s dimensions if exact pixels matter.
Choose the right kind of screenshot
A 4K viewport screenshot and a full-page screenshot solve different problems. The first records a screen-sized area; the second includes content beyond the visible screen and may be much taller than 2160 pixels. The captured width depends on the page and capture settings. Microsoft’s documentation explains the available capture modes, but does not promise an exact 3840-pixel export.

- Whole webpage, simplest workflow: Edge Web capture.
- Viewport or developer-oriented controls: Edge DevTools Device Mode.
- Exact 3840 × 2160 output: Capture, then verify the file’s pixel dimensions in an image viewer or editor. Do not treat full-page capture as a guarantee of that size.
Capture a full webpage with Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Open Settings and more and choose Web capture, or press Ctrl+Shift+S.
- Select Capture full page for the whole webpage. Choose the area option if you only need a section.
- Review the capture, then save it. Edge’s documented workflow also supports copying and markup.
Microsoft’s guide, dated January 2, 2024, describes Web capture as a way to screenshot an entire webpage: How to Take a Screenshot of a Webpage Using Microsoft Edge. The current feature page also describes full-page and selected-area capture, and says availability can vary by device, market, and browser version: Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUse Edge DevTools for viewport control or full-size capture
- Open the page in Edge and open DevTools. Enable Device Mode.
- Use Device Mode’s viewport controls and pixel rulers to frame or measure the emulated viewport.
- Open More options in Device Mode. Choose Capture a full size screenshot to include content beyond the viewport, or Capture screenshot for the currently visible viewport.
- Open the saved image and inspect its dimensions and content.
Microsoft distinguishes the visible-viewport screenshot from the full-size capture in its Device Mode documentation. Device Mode is useful for configuring a viewport, but the documentation does not guarantee a specific exported 4K file size.

Understand zoom before adjusting it
Page zoom changes the scale at which webpage content is rendered; DevTools UI zoom is separate. Changing zoom alone does not guarantee a 3840-pixel-wide screenshot. Microsoft documents Ctrl+0 as the shortcut to restore the focused surface to 100% zoom. See Microsoft Learn’s DevTools overview.
Verify the saved image is actually 4K
- Open the saved screenshot in an image viewer or editor that displays image dimensions.
- Check its width and height in pixels. For ordinary desktop usage, 4K commonly refers to 3840 × 2160 pixels.
- If you need a 3840 × 2160 viewport image, compare both dimensions with that target. If you captured a whole page, expect its height to exceed 2160 pixels in many cases; check the width separately.
- If the dimensions do not meet your requirement, adjust the capture setup and recapture, then verify again. The available Microsoft documentation does not establish a guaranteed way to export an exact 3840-pixel width through these capture commands.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
The screenshot is missing content below the visible screen
You may have captured only the viewport. In Edge Web capture, choose Capture full page. In Device Mode, choose Capture a full size screenshot, not Capture screenshot.

The file is not the dimensions you expected
Distinguish the viewport size from the exported image dimensions. Device Mode provides viewport controls and rulers, but the cited documentation does not promise that a particular setting produces an exact 3840 × 2160 image. Check the actual saved file rather than inferring its dimensions from zoom or the capture mode.
