For a reliable full-page screenshot, make the AI agent scroll through the page first, verify that the lazy-loaded content you need has appeared, and then capture with Playwright’s fullPage: true. Full-page capture sets the screenshot’s extent; it does not necessarily trigger page behavior that loads content only when its region enters the viewport.
Why a full-page screenshot can still miss lazy content
Playwright describes a full-page screenshot as capturing “a full scrollable page, as if you had a very tall screen and the page could fit it entirely.” That describes the output’s extent, not a promise that every part of the page has been visited or rendered first. See the Playwright Screenshots guide and the Page API.

Some pages load or reveal content only when the browser scrolls a region into view. This can apply to images marked loading="lazy", content managed by IntersectionObserver, scroll-triggered animations, and virtualized lists that render only nearby rows. A full-page screenshot can therefore include the whole document’s dimensions while still missing content that never loaded or rendered.

A Playwright issue opened May 21, 2026 describes these failure cases, including lazy images and iframes, observer-triggered content, reveal animations, and virtualized rows. It documents examples, not a universal rule for every page or browser: Playwright issue #40941.

Use this workflow with a Playwright-powered AI agent
- Navigate and wait for the state your task needs. A generic navigation event is not proof that below-the-fold content has loaded. Wait for the relevant page state or element where possible.
- Scroll through the relevant page regions. This lets native lazy images and scroll-triggered page logic get a chance to run. Do not assume one scroll to the bottom is enough for every site.
- Check for the content you expect. Verify target images, sections, or other elements after scrolling. If the page has a “load more” button, activate it and verify the added content. For virtualized lists, scroll through the rows you need; rows outside the rendered window may not exist in the page at once.
- Return to the intended starting position, if needed. For a screenshot that should begin at the top, scroll back to the top before capture.
- Capture the document and validate the result. Use Playwright’s full-page option, then inspect the screenshot or check the expected elements separately. If required content cannot be verified, report the capture as incomplete rather than presenting it as complete.
In Playwright JavaScript, the capture call is:
await page.screenshot({ path: 'page.png', fullPage: true });
The Playwright MCP screenshot tools distinguish a full-page capture from a screenshot of a targeted element; their target and fullPage modes cannot be combined. Use an element screenshot when you need one component, and full-page capture for the document. Details are in the Playwright MCP screenshots documentation.

What the agent should verify before declaring success
- The required below-the-fold sections or images appeared after scrolling.
- Any explicit interactions that reveal content—such as “load more”—were handled.
- The resulting screenshot contains the expected material, not just a page-sized image.
There is no universal scroll interval, wait duration, or readiness signal that works for all sites. Nested scroll containers, authentication gates, infinite scroll, and site-specific interaction flows can require additional handling. Treat the workflow as practical guidance, not a guarantee that every page can be captured perfectly. Playwright’s Python screenshots guide also documents full-page screenshots for Python users.

ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request can return an image or PDF; its API accepts the same parameter names other screenshot APIs use, which can make switching easier. The one-call example below saves a WebP screenshot of the target URL. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. See ScreenshotNeo for plan details. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does fullPage: true make Playwright scroll the page first?
No. It specifies full-page screenshot extent, not that viewport-triggered loading or rendering has been activated.

Can one screenshot reliably capture an infinite or virtualized list?
Not necessarily. Handle the page’s loading behavior and verify the specific rows or content you need before capturing.
