Use an AI agent only for an authorized support task, limit its view to the smallest useful part of the GST Portal, keep credentials and one-time codes out of view, and inspect the saved image before sharing it. GSTN’s Self Service Portal accepts screenshots as evidence when reporting a portal issue; that does not mean GSTN endorses third-party AI agents or provides a special AI capture mode.
Start with the GSTN support route
If the screenshot is meant to explain a GST Portal problem, first check whether GSTN’s issue-reporting process can resolve it without exposing more account information than necessary. GSTN’s Self Service Portal says it is designed for lodging complaints by taxpayers and other stakeholders, and accepts screenshots of pages where an issue occurred. Its Report Issue guide asks users to enter issue-related keywords, select a matching issue, and review relevant FAQs and user manual sections before lodging a complaint. If you submit a complaint, keep the reference number provided so you can check its status.

Take a screenshot only when it helps explain the issue. The support guidance does not establish that GSTN has an AI-agent screenshot feature or approves third-party agents for access to taxpayer accounts.

- Confirm authorization and purpose. Use an agent only if you are permitted to access the relevant account and the screenshot is genuinely needed to diagnose the issue.
- Open only the relevant portal page. Close unrelated tabs and browser panels, and dismiss desktop notifications or overlays that could reveal private information.
- Keep authentication data out of view. Do not expose passwords, OTPs, captcha responses, recovery details, or other credentials to the agent or in the capture. If the agent has browser-control access, verify what it can see before starting.
- Choose the narrowest capture scope the agent actually supports. Prefer a selected tab, page region, or element over a whole desktop or full page when that is sufficient. Do not assume region selection, masking, or local processing exists; check the named product’s current documentation.
- Capture only the relevant context. Include enough of the page to make the error understandable, but exclude unrelated records and fields. GST-related forms can show identifiers and transaction details such as GST number, invoice number and date, amount, payment mode, or tax details; not every page contains all of these.
- Review the image before sharing. Open the saved image at full size. Check the edges, browser chrome, overlays, and any visible or expanded fields. Crop or redact details that are not needed, while retaining enough context to explain the problem.
- Share only the reviewed image through the intended support channel. Do not ask the agent to file, submit, or alter GST data as part of a screenshot task unless that separate action is authorized and independently reviewed.
Check the agent’s privacy controls before capture
“AI agent” does not specify what the software can see or retain. Before using a particular product, verify its current documentation and settings for these points:

- Processing and retention: Where is the image processed or stored, who can access it, and how can you delete it?
- Action limits: Can you keep the task to viewing and capturing, without the agent submitting forms or changing portal data?
The Income Tax Department’s e-Filing co-browsing FAQ describes controls for that separate service: taxpayer approval, a view limited to the active browser window, the ability to stop a session, and masking in most co-browsing software. Those statements apply to the Income Tax Department’s co-browsing service; they do not verify equivalent controls for GSTN, the GST Portal, or an unspecified AI agent. Troubleshoot before sharing
- The image includes private data: Do not upload it as-is. Capture a smaller region or redact unnecessary details, then reopen the edited image and inspect it at full size.
- The agent can see more than the page: Stop before capture. Change its access scope if a narrower option exists; otherwise use a method that does not expose unrelated desktop or account content.
- The screenshot misses the error context: Reframe the capture to include the relevant heading, message, or field label, while keeping unrelated records and identifiers out.
- You cannot confirm where the image goes or how long it is retained: Do not provide account pages to that agent until its processing, storage, access, and deletion behavior are clear.
- The issue is unclear or the capture is unnecessary: Search GSTN’s issue portal for the relevant keywords, FAQ, or manual section first; lodge a complaint if that guidance does not resolve it.
