Start with the product page’s JSON-LD Product data, not fragile visual selectors. Discover candidate pages from Bürklin’s sitemaps or known canonical product URLs, fetch them with ordinary HTTP first, and save each result with its retrieval time and source URL. Prices and availability change, and the product catalogue spans categories with different attributes, so treat each scrape as a dated snapshot—not a guaranteed specification or live stock promise.
What you can—and cannot—reliably scrape
Bürklin is an electronics distributor with categories including semiconductors, passive components, electromechanics, connectors, cables and wires, power supplies, tools, measurement, automation, and PC accessories. Its FAQ reports more than 500,000 articles and says several tens of thousands are immediately available from stock; those are assortment-scale statements, not a count of pages your crawler can or should collect.
Bürklin’s terms describe its site as a non-binding online catalogue. Availability is connected to a merchandise-management or e-procurement interface and is displayed on product pages. A page scrape records what the page exposed at a particular time; it does not reserve stock, guarantee fulfillment, or establish that a listed item suits a design.
Plan for a common product core—name, manufacturer, part number, Bürklin article number, price, currency, availability, and canonical URL—plus category-specific technical attributes. Preserve displayed units and labels as well as normalized values. A capacitor, connector, and measurement instrument should not be forced into the same attribute schema.

Discover product URLs without crawling the whole site blindly
Use sitemaps as an input, not a crawl target list
Begin with the sitemap index or sitemap files published by the site. If you do not already know their addresses, inspect the site’s robots.txt or sitemap references and follow the published index; do not guess filenames. A Crawlbase recipe measured 13,017 sitemap URLs across 19 files and 2,610 entries dated as changed in the previous 30 days in its August/September 2026 measurement. These are that provider’s dated observations, not a current guarantee of Bürklin’s sitemap size.
Filter candidate URLs by the observed German product-page shape /de/{slug}/{slug}, then confirm each page’s canonical link and product data before adding it to your product set. The path shape is a clue, not proof that every matching page is a product page. Preserve locale and country variants explicitly: do not merge a German page with another locale just because their product numbers match.
Keep discovery incremental and auditable
- Parse each sitemap XML file and retain its URL and any
lastmodvalue. - Fetch changed candidates first, but keep a separate periodic full reconciliation so removed or renamed pages do not persist forever.
- Normalize product identifiers for deduplication, while retaining each canonical URL and locale as separate provenance fields.
- Record first-seen and last-seen timestamps. A missing sitemap modification date is not evidence that a page is unchanged.
Fetch a product page with ordinary HTTP first
The documented Bürklin path was accessible without JavaScript rendering in Crawlbase’s measurement. That recipe reported a 2.8-second median response and, in August 2026, a 99.5% success rate for its measured calls; plain-token calls had 98.3% success, and all observed traffic used no JavaScript token. These are provider-measured operational figures, not an independent audit or a promise for your IP, region, request rate, or future runs. Start with a normal GET request; add a browser only if a specific page proves to require rendered content.
Python: extract JSON-LD Product and Offers
Install dependencies with python -m pip install requests beautifulsoup4. Save this as scrape_buerklin.py, then pass the actual product URL you copied from Bürklin. The example deliberately takes the URL as an argument rather than pretending a sample slug is a real product.

It selects the first Product and first Offer when several exist; inspect the raw JSON-LD before using that assumption in a production pipeline. Bürklin article number, packaging quantity, lead time, category path, and technical attributes may need separate extraction or mapping if they are absent from the structured block.
cURL: inspect the raw response
Use a real canonical product URL in place of the illustrative path. This request helps determine whether ordinary HTTP returns the page and structured markup:

The -L option follows redirects; --fail causes HTTP error responses to return a failing exit status rather than treating an error page as a successful capture.
Node.js: make a basic fetch request
With a current Node.js release that provides global fetch, pass a real product URL as the first argument. This saves the response for inspection; it does not parse JSON-LD for you.

Parse structured data before page-layout selectors
Product JSON-LD is the preferred first source because it is less coupled to the visual arrangement than CSS classes. The documented Bürklin recipe says its ld+json Product block usually carries product name, price, currency, and availability, with the same values also visible in markup. “Usually” matters: validate fields and types page by page, and do not treat a missing field as zero, in stock, or unchanged.
If a needed field is absent from JSON-LD, inspect the returned HTML and use a narrowly scoped selector for the visible page value. Keep that parser separate from the JSON-LD parser, record which source supplied each field, and alert on selector failures instead of silently returning empty strings. Avoid using broad selectors such as every table cell: technical tables differ across categories and may include unrelated content.

Store both normalized data and its evidence
- Keep source URL, canonical URL, locale, retrieval timestamp, HTTP status, and parser version with every record.
- Store the raw response or a controlled, access-limited archival copy so you can investigate parser changes.
- Retain original German or English labels and display strings alongside normalized names, values, and units.
- Represent price as a value plus currency and any package or unit context. Do not assume that the listed price applies per individual component.
- Keep stock wording and lead-time text as displayed, along with the structured availability value if present.
- Record manufacturer, manufacturer part number, Bürklin article number, category path, image URLs, and datasheet links only when actually present. Image and document reuse may require separate permission.
Schedule refreshes and handle failures without hammering the site
Price and availability are time-sensitive, so choose refresh frequency based on your use case and permitted access. Crawl changed sitemap entries incrementally; do a slower full-catalogue reconciliation to catch missed updates. Pace requests, cap concurrency, cache unchanged pages, and retain response status and timing. A single-page success does not establish that a bulk crawl will behave the same way.
The Crawlbase recipe says 93.0% of its recorded failures were HTTP 403 responses. It recommends one retry using the country setting associated with successful requests; because most successful requests left country unset, it advises beginning without a country setting. That is a bounded recovery suggestion from the provider’s measured setup, not a reason to rotate locations or repeatedly retry access denials. If a second request is also 403, stop and route the page for review.
- 403 Forbidden: stop repeated retries. For a permitted retry strategy, make at most one retry with the documented country setting; otherwise review access conditions and the specific URL.
- 429 Too Many Requests: reduce request rate and concurrency, respect any server-provided retry guidance, and use backoff rather than sending a rapid burst.
- 5xx response or timeout: retry selectively with a bounded delay and limit; preserve the failed attempt in logs so a persistent issue is visible.
- 200 response but no Product data: check whether the page is an error, consent, or other non-product response; save the raw response and inspect the actual markup before changing selectors.
- Price or availability missing: keep it unknown, not zero or in-stock. Check whether the field moved between structured data and visible markup, and record the parser version.
- Redirect or duplicate page: retain both requested and canonical URLs during diagnosis, then deduplicate using canonical URL and normalized identifiers without discarding locale.
Use a managed fetch service only when its operational trade-offs help
For the measured Bürklin path, ordinary HTTP is the sensible first attempt. A managed scraping API can be useful when its retry controls, scheduling, geographic controls, and operational handling are worth the per-page cost. Compare providers on whether JavaScript rendering is genuinely needed, how 403s are handled, request cost, queue and retry controls, sitemap-scale throughput, and whether raw responses can be retained. The Crawlbase recipe documents this request shape:

A managed fetcher does not remove your responsibility to respect site access conditions, validate extracted values, or keep provenance.

KG.” Do not republish product descriptions, images, or graphics without the required express written permission. Collecting data for internal analysis is not blanket permission to reuse copyrighted material.
Bürklin’s terms also warn that technical data and illustrations may change as manufacturers make updates, photos may be symbolic, and buyers must check values and suitability. Present scraped technical values as a dated record with provenance, not as guaranteed specifications. Its privacy policy lists page views, referrer URL, visit duration, visit frequency, and subpages among analytics data and says Bürklin does not sell or market that data to third parties. For product metadata, avoid collecting account, checkout, cookie, or analytics information that is not needed.

No. It is a time-stamped catalogue observation, not a reservation or fulfillment guarantee.
