To change scenes at set clock times in an OBS 24/7 stream, use the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin: create a macro with a date-and-time condition and a scene-switch action for each scheduled change. If the next video should start when the current one ends, use media playback triggers instead. These are different scheduling jobs, and both need testing before you rely on them live.
Choose clock-time scheduling or clip-by-clip playback
- Start a particular scene at a specific hour: Use Advanced Scene Switcher date-and-time conditions. For example, “at 1:00 PM, play this” means scheduling a scene change for that time.
- Move on when a video finishes: Use a media-state or media-ended trigger to switch scenes after playback ends.
- Play a sequence of files: A VLC Video Source with files added as a playlist is one community-described approach. Automation can handle scene transitions around the playlist, but confirm how it behaves with your OBS and plugin versions.
A clock schedule does not itself guarantee a video will finish before the next scheduled scene begins. Plan for the clip duration and decide what should happen if a clip runs long or fails.
Install Advanced Scene Switcher
The OBS Project Forums listing for Advanced Scene Switcher 1.36.1, last updated August 7, 2026, specifies OBS Studio 31.1.1 as the minimum version and lists Windows, macOS, and Linux support. Check the listing before installing because plugin compatibility can change.
- Check your OBS version. Make sure it meets the minimum listed for the plugin version you intend to install.
- Open the OBS Project Forums resource listing at Advanced Scene Switcher and use its “Go to download” link.
- Choose an installer that matches your OBS installation. The project repository describes installers for Windows and macOS. For Linux, it describes a Flatpak installation route for users whose OBS was installed through Flatpak; use the repository’s current instructions rather than commands copied from old forum posts.
- Restart OBS if the installer requires it and confirm that Advanced Scene Switcher is available in OBS before building your schedule.

Schedule scene changes at clock times
- Prepare a scene for each scheduled item. Add the relevant video or sources to the scene, then set up any transitions you want OBS to use. Keep the scheduled scene distinct from unrelated scenes so the macro’s action is unambiguous.
- Open Advanced Scene Switcher from OBS and create a macro for each scheduled change.
- Add a date-and-time condition. Set it to the intended date or time condition for the event. The plugin listing confirms date and time as a condition type, but it does not document a complete setup for every recurring schedule or timezone.
- Add a scene-switch action that selects the scene containing the intended video.
- Repeat for each event and check that the scheduled times and target scenes do not conflict. Decide what the stream should show between events and after the final scheduled item.
For a recurring daily schedule, verify how the condition behaves on your installed plugin version and system clock. The available plugin listing establishes that time conditions and scene-switch actions exist; it does not establish a tested configuration for every recurrence, timezone, or recovery scenario.
Use clip completion for a sequential video playlist
If the next item should follow the end of the current clip rather than begin at a fixed hour, a community-described setup uses a VLC Video Source with the video files added as a playlist. Advanced Scene Switcher can respond to media playback state or a clip ending and then move to another scene.

- Create the scene or scenes that contain the video playback source.
- Add a VLC Video Source and select the files for the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Configure an Advanced Scene Switcher macro around the media state or end-of-playback event, with an action for the next scene or playback step.
- Test the complete sequence. Confirm how the playlist advances, whether the next video starts as expected, and what happens at the end of the final clip. Community examples are practical guidance, not a guarantee that every OBS and plugin version behaves identically.
Use a fixed-time macro when the clock determines the change. Use media triggers when playback completion determines it. Combining both approaches is possible in principle, but test for conflicts if both can affect the same scenes.
Test the schedule before using it on a public stream
Test in a private stream or another safe setup where a mistaken transition will not disrupt viewers. An OBS community responder advises testing the complete looping arrangement before relying on it.

- Verify that each clock-time condition fires at the intended system or local time.
- Check that the expected scene becomes active at every boundary.
- For media-triggered changes, confirm the video starts, ends, and returns or advances as intended.
- Test playlist looping and the transition after the final file.
- Simulate a missing or failed source if practical, and decide what the stream should display instead.
- Leave the setup running long enough to test the complete loop, not just the first transition.
Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
A scheduled scene does not appear
Check that the macro is enabled, the date-and-time condition matches the system clock and intended date, and the action targets the correct scene. Test the condition in a safe setup and review the schedule around the event for another macro that could switch scenes immediately afterward.
The change happens at the wrong time
Confirm the computer’s date, time, and timezone, then compare them with the condition configured in the plugin. The plugin listing does not establish how every recurring schedule handles timezone changes, so test the specific setup—including a day or daylight-saving transition if it matters to your schedule.

The next video does not start when a clip ends
Check that the media trigger is watching the correct source and that its action points to the intended next scene or playback step. Test the VLC playlist by itself, then test the macro; this helps distinguish a playlist issue from an automation issue.
A schedule works once but not on the next loop
Review whether the date-and-time condition is a one-time event or configured to recur, and test a full cycle. The available plugin listing does not supply a universal recipe for repeating daily playlists, so do not assume a successful first run proves that later cycles will behave the same way.
