ApiFlash does not document a built-in recurring schedule. To capture a site repeatedly, schedule an external job—such as a cron task or hosted scheduler—to call the ApiFlash endpoint at the cadence you choose, then store or route the returned image. The API takes a capture request; the scheduler supplies the recurrence.
How recurring ApiFlash screenshots work
Each scheduled run makes an authenticated request to https://api.apiflash.com/v1/urltoimage. ApiFlash accepts GET query parameters or POST form data. Include an access key and a fully qualified target URL, including its protocol. Your scheduler determines the time zone, interval and behavior after a missed run; those are not properties of the screenshot endpoint.

A typical flow is:
- Create and protect an ApiFlash access key in its dashboard.
- Build and test a request with the target URL and desired capture settings.
- Schedule a script or workflow to make that request at the intended interval.
- Save the returned image bytes, consume a JSON screenshot URL, or configure documented S3 output.
- Log the outcome and monitor quota, failures and storage access.
Keep credentials on a server or in your scheduler’s secret store. Do not put the access key in browser-side code, a public repository or routine logs.

Viewport, format and page area
Set the viewport width and height to reflect what you need to monitor. ApiFlash documents JPEG as the default format, with PNG and WebP also available. Choose full-page capture when you need the page beyond the visible viewport, or select an element when only one component matters.

Wait for the right page state
The documented default for wait_until is network_idle; alternatives are dom_loaded and page_loaded. Use wait_for to wait for a CSS selector to appear, or delay for a fixed wait of up to 10 seconds. A fixed delay can help with a known late-rendering element, but it does not prove that every dynamic part of a page has finished loading.
ApiFlash’s FAQ notes that fonts may differ unless the site serves its own fonts. It also cautions that custom headers can interfere with remote font loading. If typography changes between captures, test without custom headers and check whether the target site can load its font resources.

Decide whether each run must be fresh
The documented default cache TTL is 86,400 seconds. Identical requests may return a cached screenshot and do not count against the monthly quota. For monitoring that needs a new image on every run, set fresh=true. If reuse is acceptable, choose a ttl deliberately: the documented range is 0 to 2,592,000 seconds (30 days). These cache values are from ApiFlash documentation accessed October 3, 2026.

Schedule and store each capture
Use cron or a hosted scheduler
Put the request in a small server-side script and have cron or a hosted scheduler run it on the cadence you need. Configure the scheduler’s time zone and missed-run policy explicitly, especially for business-hour monitoring or daily reports. The exact configuration depends on the scheduler; ApiFlash’s endpoint itself does not define those choices.

Test one run manually first. Confirm the image reflects the desired page state, that freshness is configured correctly, and that the job can access its secret and destination storage. Then enable recurrence and arrange logging or alerts for failed runs.
Choose an output path
- Image bytes: By default, the API returns the screenshot directly. Your script must write the response body to a file or forward it to another service.
- JSON response: With
response_type=json, the response includes a screenshot URL. Optional extraction parameters can return links to HTML or text. - S3: ApiFlash documents S3 parameters for uploading the screenshot to a bucket. Store bucket credentials securely and restrict their permissions to the required destination.
For each run, retain enough operational context to identify the target and scheduled time, and record the HTTP result and relevant quota headers. Avoid logging the access key or other secrets.

Consider an automation workflow
A workflow platform can provide a recurring trigger and route results without maintaining a server script. Zapier documents daily, weekly and monthly Schedule triggers, but its surfaced “Screenshot API” action does not establish a native ApiFlash integration. Treat it as a general scheduling pattern: verify the current HTTP/API action and configure the ApiFlash request explicitly before relying on it.

Quota, rate limits and cost
ApiFlash documents request processing at 20 requests per second with a burst size of 400. Excessive burst traffic can receive HTTP 429. A routine schedule is usually controlled by its own cadence, but avoid launching a large batch of captures simultaneously; stagger or queue work and retry rate-limited calls with backoff rather than immediately repeating them.

Estimate usage from the number of URLs multiplied by scheduled runs in a month, then account for any additional manual or retry requests. Cached identical requests do not count against the monthly quota according to the documentation, while fresh=true deliberately bypasses reuse when a new capture is required.
Handle common failures

If the request succeeds but the screenshot looks stale, inspect the cache setting and use fresh=true when a new capture is necessary. If page content is missing, check the wait condition, selector, delay and target URL before increasing the scheduled frequency. If fonts differ, investigate remote font loading and custom headers.
