Use archivebox schedule to set up recurring imports in current ArchiveBox versions. Choose a built-in interval such as daily or supply a cron expression; when archivebox server is running, its built-in orchestrator queues each enabled schedule when it is due. You do not need a separate scheduler container for this current server-managed workflow. See the ArchiveBox Scheduled Archiving documentation and check your installed version before applying older cron-based instructions.
Set up a recurring capture
Run the schedule command from your ArchiveBox collection context. For example, to import a feed daily and follow one level of links:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
archivebox schedule --every=daily --depth=1 https://example.com/feed.xml
To use a cron expression instead, this example schedules an import every six hours:
archivebox schedule --every='0 */6 * * *' https://example.com/feed.xml
Replace the example URL with the URL, feed, or other supported import path you want ArchiveBox to process. The --depth=1 option appears in the project’s examples; choose capture depth deliberately, and use ArchiveBox’s URL allow/deny-list configuration if you need to control which linked pages it follows. A schedule does not guarantee that a third-party site will allow or render every capture successfully.

Check and manage schedules
Use the schedule command’s management options to inspect or change the schedule set:
archivebox schedule --showlists schedules.archivebox schedule --run-allqueues enabled schedules immediately.archivebox schedule --clearclears schedules.archivebox schedule --foregroundruns the global orchestrator outsidearchivebox server.
Current documentation lists interval aliases including minute, hour, day, week, month, year, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Check archivebox schedule --help for the exact syntax supported by your installed version before relying on an alias or flag.

How current ArchiveBox scheduling runs
Current ArchiveBox documentation describes schedules stored in the database. The schedule command creates a schedule and a sealed template crawl. The global orchestrator watches enabled schedules and queues a new crawl when one is due; queued work then follows the normal processing path for UI- or API-submitted work. Running a one-shot archivebox add does not also sweep unrelated scheduled jobs.
With archivebox server running, the project’s guidance says: “You no longer need host cron, user crontabs, or a separate archivebox_scheduler container when archivebox server is running.” The current Scheduled Archiving page was edited September 20, 2026. The current Docker Compose example likewise uses the server’s orchestrator for future runs.

Use the current Docker Compose flow
The official Compose example adds a schedule with a one-off command like this:
docker compose run --rm archivebox schedule --every=weekly --depth=1 https://example.com/feed.xml
If the main server is already running, its orchestrator picks up future runs. The image repository also documents this alternative against a running service:

Compose and command syntax can vary by image version. Use the instructions matching the ArchiveBox image you have installed, and consult that version’s help if a flag is rejected.
When older cron instructions apply
ArchiveBox 0.7.4 documentation describes using an external task scheduler such as cron, at, or systemd to poll imports. That is historical, version-specific guidance—not the current default for a running server with database-backed schedules. If a guide tells you to create a host cron job or run a separate scheduler container, first check whether it targets an older ArchiveBox release. The current scheduling page and your installed version’s command help are the better reference for current syntax.

Plan for storage as the collection grows
ArchiveBox can save snapshots in multiple formats, including original HTML, CSS and JavaScript, single-file HTML, screenshots, PDF, WARC, titles, article text, favicons, and headers. Snapshot contents are stored as ordinary files. Repeatedly capturing pages therefore grows the archive, but the documentation does not give a universal storage estimate; actual use depends on what you capture and which formats are saved.
The official Docker deployment guide says persistent data includes the database and archive, recommends reliable local storage for the database and browser profiles, and describes mounting remote storage only for /data/archive. An external drive is not required to schedule captures.

If you need clean screenshot files rather than a self-hosted web archive, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-call screenshot API. The API accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF; details and options are in the ScreenshotNeo documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.
