YouTube’s published guidance does not establish that OBS can natively schedule playlist playback and automatically switch between multiple channels’ stream keys, so treat those as separate tasks unless you verify an automation setup yourself.
What you can schedule—and where
A YouTube livestream event and an OBS playlist are different things. You schedule the livestream event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. OBS acts as the encoder that sends audio and video to that event. YouTube’s instructions describe entering the event’s server URL and stream key in an encoder; they do not document an OBS cross-channel playlist scheduler or automatic key switching. YouTube’s encoder livestream instructions explain event setup and encoder connection.

Do not confuse either workflow with scheduling an uploaded video for publication. YouTube’s scheduled video feature makes an uploaded video public at a chosen date and time; it does not schedule an OBS playlist broadcast. YouTube’s scheduled video instructions cover that separate publishing feature.
Check channel eligibility before planning a broadcast
For each channel, confirm that livestreaming is enabled before you schedule an event. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours, so do this well ahead of the intended broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Schedule an event for each channel
- Open the channel’s Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio for the channel that will broadcast, select Create > Go Live > Manage.
- Create or schedule the encoder stream. Set the event’s title, visibility, and start time. YouTube also allows you to reuse settings from a previous event. Schedule each channel’s event separately in the appropriate channel account.
- Record the event’s connection details securely. In Live Control Room, note the stream URL and the stream key for that event. YouTube describes the key as a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed, so do not share it publicly or place it in an exposed document.
- Repeat for every channel and event. Keep a clear mapping of channel, event, scheduled time, URL, and key. Reusing event settings does not mean the events share a destination or that OBS will choose the correct channel automatically.
Scheduling an upcoming livestream can make it visible to subscribers, allow viewers to set reminders, and provide a shareable event URL. Consult YouTube’s livestream setup guidance for the current event controls.
Connect OBS to the intended event
- Open OBS on the machine that will broadcast. Select the scene and media source or playlist you intend to use.
- Set the stream destination for the event. In OBS’s stream settings, choose the YouTube/custom server configuration that lets you enter the destination, then enter the stream URL and stream key belonging to the scheduled event. OBS interface labels can vary by version; YouTube’s documented requirement is to enter its server URL and key into the encoder.
- Verify the destination before starting output. Check the channel and event in your notes against the URL and key currently configured in OBS. Starting with another channel’s key sends the feed to the wrong event.
- Start the playlist playback and encoder at the appropriate time. YouTube’s event schedule and your local playlist playback are separate operations. The available YouTube guidance does not establish that OBS will launch a playlist at a scheduled time or switch keys between channels.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the correct event receives the picture and sound before relying on the broadcast.
Plan simultaneous events around YouTube’s limits
YouTube’s current guidance, accessed in 2026, sets two concurrent-stream limits that apply at the same time: a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are YouTube limits, not OBS playlist limits. If events overlap, check how many streams are active on each channel and key before scheduling another. See YouTube’s stream-key and stream-limit guidance.

Preflight each scheduled stream
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream at least two hours before the event, starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start, and checking the Live Control Room preview, event accessibility, and audio/video quality. Apply the checks to each channel’s event, not just the first one. The specific timing is YouTube’s guidance, not a guarantee that a stream will be ready by those points. See YouTube’s encoder livestream tips.
- Confirm that the event is scheduled on the intended channel and has the expected visibility and start time.
- Match the event’s stream URL and key to the OBS configuration.
- Inspect the preview for the correct playlist content, picture, and audio.
- Check that the event is accessible as intended and that the schedule does not exceed the channel or key’s simultaneous-stream limits.
- Keep the stream key private; replace it in OBS if you regenerate or change it in YouTube.
What one OBS installation does not establish
One installed copy of OBS can be configured for different events, but the cited official guidance does not establish a built-in scheduler that launches playlist playback for multiple channels or automatically selects each event’s key. Do not assume that scheduling a YouTube event will make OBS start, and do not rely on a key-switching script or plugin without checking its current documentation and testing it with the exact OBS version and channel setup you plan to use.

If you need unattended channel changes, the important test is end-to-end: verify that the automation starts the correct playlist, selects the correct event credentials, sends output at the right time, and gives you a way to detect and recover from failure. The official YouTube steps above remain the event-scheduling and encoder-connection foundation.

Livestreaming is not available on a channel
Likely cause: verification or eligibility requirements are incomplete, a restriction applies, or first-time activation is still pending. Fix: check the channel’s live eligibility early; YouTube says first-time activation may take at least 24 hours.

The stream does not start at the scheduled time
Likely cause: the YouTube event is scheduled, but the encoder or playlist has not been started. Fix: treat the event schedule and local playback as separate tasks; use YouTube’s recommended encoder preflight timing and confirm the preview.
A new stream cannot be started during an overlap
Likely cause: an active-stream limit has been reached on the channel or stream key. Fix: check both YouTube concurrency limits and adjust the overlap or stream-key plan.
