How to Schedule Pinterest Posts with Buffer (and Measure the Traffic)

Learn how to schedule Pinterest Pins with Buffer, choose a board and publishing time, understand current queue limits, and track clicks without assuming scheduling guarantees traffic.

To schedule a Pinterest Pin with Buffer, connect your Pinterest account, choose Pinterest in Buffer’s composer, add the image or video and Pin details, select a board, then add the Pin to your queue or choose a publication time. Scheduling helps organize publishing; it does not guarantee more visits. Use clicks and other performance metrics to see whether your Pins are bringing traffic.

How to schedule a Pinterest Pin with Buffer

  1. Connect Pinterest to Buffer. Follow Buffer’s Pinterest setup instructions. Buffer says you can connect multiple Pinterest accounts.
  2. Open the composer and select Pinterest. If you selected multiple Pinterest profiles, choose the profile or profiles for this post. Buffer allows a different board to be selected for each selected profile.
  3. Add your media and Pin details. Buffer lists JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC for images, and MP4, MOV, AVI, and M4V for video. Add the Pin’s text and destination details in the composer.
  4. Choose a board. Select the board where the Pin should appear for each profile.
  5. Set the publishing time. Add it to your queue or choose a date and time. Buffer’s general scheduling guide describes options such as “Next Available,” “Prioritize,” a custom date and time, and immediate publishing; the options shown can depend on the connected channel. See Buffer’s scheduling guide for current interface steps.

For a batch of Pins, Buffer’s bulk-upload guidance describes a CSV with post text, image URL, optional posting time, and Pinterest board name. Its example date-time format is YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm, using 24-hour time and zero-padded values. Check the spreadsheet’s exported dates before uploading; automatic reformatting can change them.

Limits to check before planning a queue

Buffer’s publishing cap and its queue capacity are different limits. The current figures in Buffer’s documentation are:

Service and limit What the documentation says How to use the figure
Buffer daily publishing limit 25 posts per 24 hours with a verified email; 5 without This is a publishing limit, not the number of Pins that can wait in the queue. Confirm your account’s current limit in Buffer.
Buffer queued Pins Up to 10 on Free; up to 2,000 on paid plans This is queue capacity, not permission to publish that many in one day. Confirm current plan limits on Buffer’s Pinterest product page.
Pinterest native scheduler Up to 10 future scheduled Pins, as far as 30 days ahead Pinterest’s standard Pin scheduler requires a business account. See Pinterest Business Help for eligibility and current limits.

These are product limits documented by Buffer and Pinterest and may change. Check the live account and help pages before building a long publishing calendar.

Buffer or Pinterest’s built-in scheduler?

Choose based on where you want to plan and publish, not on an assumption that one scheduler improves reach. The product guidance describes publishing and reporting features, not a controlled comparison showing that Buffer produces more traffic than Pinterest’s native tool.

Consideration Buffer Pinterest native scheduler
Account and workflow Connect Pinterest profiles and choose boards in Buffer; the workflow can sit alongside other supported social channels. Requires a Pinterest business account for standard Pin scheduling.
Planning capacity Buffer documents up to 10 queued Pins on Free and up to 2,000 on paid plans; daily publishing caps are a separate limit. Up to 10 future Pins, scheduled no more than 30 days ahead.
Best fit Useful if you want Pinterest in a multi-channel calendar or prefer Buffer’s queue and reporting workflow. Useful if you want to schedule directly inside Pinterest and its account and scheduling limits suit your plan.
Editing after scheduling Check Buffer’s current post controls for the connected channel. Pinterest says you can edit a scheduled Pin’s date, title, board, description, and link, but not its image or video.

What Buffer’s Pinterest composer does not support

Buffer’s Pinterest help page lists publishing and analytics, but not engagement features. It also says profile mentions or tags and topic tags are unavailable in its Pinterest composer. Pinterest hashtags are not clickable; Buffer puts it plainly: “Pinterest does not hyperlink hashtags, so hashtags sent to Pinterest will not be clickable.” Avoid relying on hashtags or unsupported tags as links or targeting features.

Measure traffic instead of assuming it

Scheduling can help you plan publishing, but it cannot establish that a Pin caused a visit. Start with a baseline, then compare performance after publishing using metrics available in Pinterest or Buffer. Buffer says its per-post performance view can be sorted by impressions, saves, or clicks. For a traffic objective, pay particular attention to clicks and compare them with your own earlier results; impressions and saves provide additional context, not proof of visits.

Buffer’s guidance also cites nearly 500 million monthly active Pinterest users and says 80% of Pinterest users use the service to discover new brands. Those figures are stated on Buffer’s undated help page, which does not identify the underlying measurement or survey in the visible text, so treat them as Buffer-attributed context rather than independently verified current statistics. Likewise, Buffer’s September 3, 2025 article reports engagement rising from 3.08% to 5.26% and usage increasing 113% in its analysis of millions of channel connections from 2022–2024. The excerpt does not give the full method or denominator; those figures do not show that scheduling caused the change.
