Schedule the program in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set its intended date and time, and check the event’s displayed time before relying on it. India Standard Time (IST) is UTC+05:30. If you schedule with YouTube’s API, convert the intended IST time to a UTC ISO 8601 timestamp and ensure it is in the future. Scheduling creates an upcoming event; it does not by itself connect your encoder or confirm that YouTube is receiving the program’s audio.
Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Choose the encoder-based live stream workflow and select the option to schedule for later.
- Enter the program title, description, visibility, date, and intended airtime. Check the date and time shown on the created event before confirming. YouTube’s scheduling help describes upcoming streams appearing in subscribers’ feeds, where viewers may select “Notify me.”
- Configure the encoder and stream separately. Near airtime, follow Live Control Room’s instructions to start the encoder and check the preview. A scheduled event alone does not mean the encoder is connected or that program audio is reaching YouTube.
You can reuse settings from an earlier stream in YouTube Studio. That can save setup time for a recurring radio program, but still check the event date and the live preview for each broadcast.

Convert IST to UTC for a scheduled API broadcast
India’s time standard is UTC+05:30. For YouTube API scheduling, subtract five hours and 30 minutes from the intended IST airtime, express the resulting instant as an ISO 8601 datetime—commonly ending in Z—and check whether the conversion moves the event to the previous UTC date.

For example, an API value for 20:00 IST on 12 November would represent 14:30 UTC on 12 November. For 02:00 IST on 12 November, it would represent 20:30 UTC on 11 November. Use the year as well as the date in the actual timestamp, and verify that the resulting scheduled time is still in the future when you submit it.

What API scheduling creates—and what it does not
YouTube’s Live Streaming API separates the scheduled viewing event from the content feed. A liveBroadcast represents the event viewers can watch; a liveStream represents the audio-video content sent to YouTube. Google for Developers describes a liveBroadcast as “an event that will be streamed, using live video, on YouTube.”
- Create a
liveBroadcastwith a title, asnippet.scheduledStartTimein ISO 8601 format, and astatus.privacyStatus. - Set the scheduled start time to a future instant. Convert the intended IST time to UTC first and check any date rollover.
- Bind the broadcast event to a
liveStream. - Configure the encoder with that stream’s settings and connect it as directed. Scheduling the broadcast does not replace the encoder setup or establish that the feed is working.
Studio is the direct option for creators scheduling by hand. API scheduling is suited to an authenticated integration that needs to create events programmatically.
Plan recurring radio broadcasts
Create a separate scheduled broadcast event for each episode or airtime. If the encoder settings stay the same, Google’s API guide describes reusing one liveStream for multiple scheduled broadcasts. That avoids reconfiguring the stream for every event. You can instead use a separate stream for each broadcast when episodes need distinct stream settings.

Whichever approach you use, the event calendar and the encoder’s operational state are separate: confirm each event’s scheduled time and ensure the correct stream is connected for that episode.
Do not confuse a scheduled livestream with scheduled video publishing
Scheduling an upcoming live event is different from scheduling an uploaded video to publish later. YouTube’s scheduled publishing workflow sets an uploaded private video to publish at a chosen time and time zone; its help page says the watch-page publication date is based on Pacific Standard Time. That publication setting does not create an upcoming live event for a radio program.
Check music and broadcast permissions before going live
Time scheduling does not grant rights to transmit the program. India’s Copyright Act addresses broadcast and communication to the public, as well as broadcast reproduction and performers’ rights. The law alone does not establish that a radio station’s existing licence covers a YouTube simulcast.

- Check permissions for the musical works, sound recordings, and performances used in the program.
- Check that the permissions cover YouTube transmission and the territories in which the program will be available.
- Review any station, label, publisher, performer, or other relevant agreements rather than assuming a radio licence also authorizes online streaming.
Troubleshoot scheduling and airtime problems
The event is scheduled, but viewers cannot hear the program
The event and the encoder feed are separate. Check that the encoder is running, connected to the intended stream, and sending audio; inspect the Live Control Room preview before treating the program as live.
The API rejects the scheduled start time
The API requires a future scheduled time. Recheck the UTC conversion, date rollover, and whether the timestamp has already passed by the time the request is submitted.
The program appears at an unexpected time
Compare the intended IST date and time with the time displayed on the Studio event. If you used the API, check the UTC timestamp and its date as well as its hour. The available scheduling guidance does not establish how every current Studio interface localizes time input, so rely on the actual time shown in the scheduling screen before confirming.

The recurring episode uses the wrong stream configuration
Check which liveStream the broadcast is bound to and whether that stream’s settings match the episode. Shared streams suit episodes with the same encoder settings; separate streams may be more appropriate when settings differ.
