Turn Loop Playlist on and leave Shuffle Playlist off. YouTube schedules the event; OBS and VLC supply the looping video and audio.
What you need to set up
- A YouTube channel that can livestream and access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- OBS Studio and VLC installed on the computer that will send the broadcast. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC.
- The local video files you want to play, arranged in the desired order.
- The stream URL and stream key shown for the YouTube broadcast.
YouTube’s playlist repeat control is for viewers watching a video or playlist. It does not turn a playlist into a livestream. For a livestream, the encoder must send the video and audio to YouTube.

Schedule the YouTube livestream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage.
- Choose the option to schedule a new stream, or reuse prior stream settings if appropriate.
- Enter the event details, set its date and time, and save the scheduled stream.
- Open the event’s stream settings and note the stream URL and stream key. Use the details associated with this broadcast when configuring OBS.
A scheduled event creates a watch page that you can share, and viewers can opt into reminders. YouTube Help describes scheduling as a way to promote a stream. Scheduling the event does not, by itself, start OBS, VLC, the playlist, or the encoder at the scheduled time.

- Open OBS Studio and select the scene that will carry the livestream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video. If that source is unavailable, install VLC and reopen OBS.
- In the VLC Video source properties, add the local media files to the playlist in the exact order you want them broadcast.
- Make sure Shuffle Playlist is off so the files play in list order.
- Turn Loop Playlist on so the source starts over after the last file finishes. OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation describes this setting as restarting the source when it has run out of media files.
- Confirm the source is visible in the scene and that its audio is reaching the OBS audio mixer.

Connect OBS to the scheduled YouTube event
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream.
- Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream key and server details from the scheduled broadcast. If OBS offers an account connection or a manual stream-key setup, use the method available in your installation and verify that the selected event is the intended one.
- Apply the settings and close the dialog.
- Start the VLC playlist in OBS and select Start Streaming.
- Check YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to verify that YouTube is receiving the intended video and audio. Follow the on-screen controls there to start or manage the scheduled event.
YouTube’s encoder guide explains that software or standalone hardware encoders send content using YouTube’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s instructions are at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose the right OBS source for your playback case

These are OBS playback controls, not YouTube playlist settings. YouTube’s viewer-side instructions for repeating a playlist are separate: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube – Computer.

Test before the scheduled broadcast
- Play through enough of the playlist to confirm the file order and that shuffle is off.
- Check that playback continues from the final file back to the first.
- Listen for audio from every file and confirm it reaches the OBS mixer and the YouTube preview.
- Verify the stream key and event selection, then confirm YouTube receives the expected picture and sound.
- Decide how OBS will be started and how the scheduled event will be brought live. Test that procedure; the scheduled time alone is not evidence that a local encoder or playlist will launch automatically.
Common problems and fixes
VLC Video is missing from OBS
OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source. Install VLC, close and reopen OBS, then check the Sources panel again.
The files play in the wrong order
Open the VLC Video source properties and arrange the files in the intended sequence. Confirm Shuffle Playlist is off.

The playlist stops after the last video
Enable Loop Playlist in the VLC Video source properties. For a single file using Media Source, enable that source’s Loop property instead.
YouTube is not receiving the broadcast
Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct scheduled event, that streaming has been started in OBS, and that the event is open in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Confirm the preview receives video and audio before relying on the broadcast.

The stream does not start at the scheduled time
YouTube scheduling does not establish that OBS or VLC will launch automatically. Start the encoder using your tested workflow and follow the Live Control Room’s event controls. Any computer-side automation is separate from scheduling the YouTube event.

What happens when the encoder stops
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when the encoder stops sending. That archive behavior does not mean YouTube restarts the broadcast, repeats the event, or launches OBS again. See YouTube’s encoder guide for its stream and archive guidance.
