Schedule the live event in YouTube Studio, then connect OBS to that event with its stream URL and stream key. YouTube schedules the event and watch page; it does not, by itself, start OBS or schedule a video file to play in OBS. At the planned time, start OBS, check the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and select Go live. The steps below work for creators in India as well as elsewhere; the cited YouTube setup guidance does not describe a separate India-only encoder process.
Before you schedule: check that your channel can go live
- Your channel must be verified.
- Your channel must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Live streaming must be enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the day of your event.
Check YouTube’s current eligibility guidance before planning a first broadcast: Get started with live streaming and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Encoder access is distinct from mobile-live requirements and monetization eligibility.
Schedule the YouTube event in Live Control Room
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Create > Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and choose Schedule stream.
- Create a new stream or reuse settings from an earlier event. Enter the event details and choose its visibility and stream settings. Confirm the scheduled date and time shown in YouTube Studio.
- Save the event. Scheduling creates the public-facing event/watch page and can place the stream in subscribers’ upcoming feeds; viewers can choose to receive a reminder. It does not start OBS.
YouTube’s encoder workflow is documented in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Connect OBS to the scheduled event
Get the event’s stream URL and key
Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. YouTube describes a stream key as the credential and address that let an encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on screen, or send it to someone who should not control the stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS with the replacement. See Manage live stream settings.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Enter the connection details in OBS
In OBS, open the stream settings for the YouTube connection and enter the stream URL and key belonging to the scheduled event. The exact OBS labels can vary by version and connection method; use the settings in your installed OBS version rather than assuming a particular menu label. Make sure you have selected the scheduled event’s key, not a key belonging to another stream.
The available YouTube guidance verifies the encoder handoff, but does not establish menu-by-menu OBS instructions for a particular version or how to automate a local media source. Do not treat scheduling in YouTube as a trigger that starts OBS or selects a video file.

Play a prerecorded video: what OBS scheduling does and does not cover
If by “schedule videos” you mean broadcasting a prerecorded file, there are two separate jobs: arranging playback in OBS and scheduling the YouTube event. The YouTube instructions establish how to schedule the event and send an encoder feed, but they do not verify OBS media-source settings, playlist behavior, or unattended playback triggers. Those details depend on your OBS version and setup, so this guide does not promise that a video will begin automatically at the scheduled time.
- Before relying on a prerecorded video, test the complete playback path in your installed OBS version, including picture, sound, and what happens when the file ends.
- Decide who or what will start OBS and begin playback. YouTube’s scheduled event alone performs neither action.
- If the broadcast must start unattended, verify the required OBS automation separately and test it before relying on it for a public event.
Preflight the stream and go live
- Prepare early. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the stream and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. These are preparation recommendations, not guarantees.
- Start the OBS feed. Start the encoder in time for YouTube to receive the signal. A scheduled event page can exist before an encoder feed arrives.
- Check Live Control Room. Wait for the preview, then confirm that the intended video and audio are present. Check that the event is accessible from your channel and its watch page.
- Start the public broadcast. When the preview is ready and you are satisfied with it, select Go live in Live Control Room. Sending an encoder feed and starting the YouTube event are distinct actions.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on audio and video throughout the stream. YouTube also recommends checking that any local archive file is growing; that check is useful only if you are recording locally.
- End the event cleanly. End the stream in Live Control Room and stop OBS from sending the feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; this does not mean OBS will automatically start or play a video.
See YouTube’s YouTube live streaming tips for its preparation recommendations and encoder instructions for the event handoff.

Copyright, archived streams, and monetization
Use material you have the rights to broadcast
Scheduling or using OBS does not grant permission to rebroadcast a film, music track, or other third-party video. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents that they have the necessary rights for live and archived content, including music, and must comply with applicable laws and regulations. Use material you own or are authorized to broadcast. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Do not assume a scheduled stream will earn revenue
Scheduling does not guarantee monetization. YouTube says ads serve when the channel is monetized and monetization is enabled for the live stream; particular ad features also have their own availability and exclusions. Check Monetize your live stream for the applicable conditions.

Common problems and what to check
- Live streaming is not available yet: verify the channel and check for restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: check that OBS has the stream URL and key for the scheduled event, and that the encoder is actually sending. If the key may have been exposed or is wrong, reset or retrieve the correct key in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- The event is scheduled, but viewers do not see the live broadcast: a scheduled watch page is not the same as an active broadcast. Start the encoder, wait for the preview, and select Go live in Live Control Room.
- The event starts but the prerecorded video does not: YouTube event scheduling does not start local OBS playback. Check the media playback and any automation in your OBS setup independently; the YouTube event/encoder instructions do not specify those settings.
- The preview has no sound or the wrong picture: inspect the feed in Live Control Room before going live, correct the source or audio problem in your encoder setup, and confirm the preview again.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is an always-on YouTube stream from uploaded videos, rather than starting a local OBS setup for each event, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card.
Monthly: $9.99 per month. In India, UPI and cards are supported; card checkout is available worldwide. Start the free first day with StreamNeo.
