You can run playback and encoding on a computer, use a standalone hardware encoder, or have a cloud service handle playout. YouTube supplies the live-stream connection; playlist order, repeat behavior, and recovery depend on the encoder or service you choose.
What you need before setting up a 24/7 stream
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: it must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Initial live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance before planning a launch.
- A source of prerecorded video and an encoder or cloud playout service that can play it as a continuous feed.
- A stable internet connection and a playback device that can stay available, unless a cloud service runs the stream.
- Videos you own or are licensed to use, plus a plan for how the channel adds original value. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions.
Choose how to run the playlist
| Approach | How it works | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo cloud playout | Upload videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud. | No computer or home connection needs to stay on. One slot supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot; the first day is free with no card. See StreamNeo. |
| Computer and software encoder | Playlist playback and encoding run on a computer, which sends the feed to YouTube. | The computer, power, and connection must remain available. Playlist controls and recovery behavior vary by software. A mini PC is optional, not a YouTube requirement; check the encoder’s system requirements before buying hardware. |
| Standalone hardware encoder | A dedicated device encodes and sends the feed. | It can suit a dedicated production setup, but may be more equipment than a prerecorded playlist requires. |
| Other cloud playout service | A provider runs the prerecorded feed on its servers. YouTube’s encoder page lists Gyre for 24/7 prerecorded streaming; OneStream Live documents continuous streaming and says its 24/7 capability requires Enterprise. | Confirm current plan limits, storage, availability in India, and recovery behavior directly with the provider. Details can change. |
| Camera encoder app | CamStreamer is described on YouTube’s encoder page as supporting continuous and scheduled streams for compatible Axis cameras. | This is intended for a camera-centered setup, not the default choice for rotating recorded files. |
YouTube documents encoder-based streams, but it does not prescribe one universal playlist-rotation recipe. The playlist and recovery controls belong to the encoder or service. The steps below explain the YouTube connection and the settings to verify for either a local encoder or cloud playout.
Set up the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Prepare your channel. Complete verification and confirm livestreaming is enabled in YouTube Studio. Allow up to 24 hours for initial activation.
- Create or schedule a stream. Open YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go live, then create a stream in Live Control Room or schedule one for later. Scheduling creates an upcoming stream that you can promote and may let viewers opt in to reminders. For current encoder setup guidance, see YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder or service. The key is a credential: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream. Reset it if you think it has been exposed. YouTube explains stream configuration in its stream settings guide.
- Build the playlist in the encoder. Add the videos you have rights to use, set their order, and select the available repeat or loop option. Check what the software does when a clip ends, when the playlist ends, and when the feed disconnects. These behaviors are encoder-specific; YouTube does not guarantee a particular playlist or automatic-recovery function.
- Configure stream behavior and start sending. Review the relevant settings in your encoder and YouTube Studio, then start the encoder feed. YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop options control stream start and stop behavior; they do not create or rotate a video playlist.
- Check Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed and inspect stream health. Watch the handoff between clips and verify that the playlist repeats as intended before leaving the channel unattended.
Choose playback and stream settings carefully
There is no single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe value that applies to every encoder and source. Use the settings supported by your encoder and the source files, and follow the current YouTube guidance shown for the stream. Avoid changing playback or encoding options without checking how the encoder handles them: a playlist can be correct while its outgoing feed still fails to reach YouTube properly.
- Resolution and frame rate: Choose a profile that matches the material and the encoder’s capabilities. Check that the output remains consistent across clips if the playlist combines files with different properties.
- Bitrate and keyframes: Use the encoder’s YouTube-compatible recommendations for the selected output profile rather than guessing a value. Confirm that the chosen software or device exposes the relevant controls.
- Stream key: Treat it as a secret credential and use the key associated with the intended scheduled or active stream.
- Playlist transitions: Test whether the encoder plays the next file automatically, loops the full list, and resumes or stops after a disconnect. YouTube’s auto-start/stop controls do not substitute for these playlist functions.
Plan for interruptions and long-running broadcasts
Monitor the feed after launch, especially at clip boundaries and after any network or encoder interruption. Do not assume YouTube will reconnect the encoder or resume the playlist: automatic recovery depends on the software, device, or cloud provider. For any provider, verify its recovery behavior and current plan limits before relying on it for an unattended channel.

Also plan how to keep recordings of a long broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that guidance does not establish that a single 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete archive. If you need a dependable recording, arrange separate recordings or planned stream restarts and verify YouTube’s current behavior in its live-stream archive guidance.
Copyright and monetization: two separate checks
Use material you own or have permission to broadcast, and make sure that permission covers the intended use. Permission does not by itself guarantee monetization eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other channel content.

In a notice dated July 15, 2025, YouTube said it renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is included. The notice states: “This type of content has always been ineligible for monetization under our existing policies, where creators are rewarded for original and authentic content.” Highly repetitive material with little creative, educational, or other value can be ineligible. Reused content is a separate channel-level assessment: significant original commentary, substantive changes, or added entertainment or educational value can matter, and permission alone does not settle that assessment. Read YouTube’s monetization policies; they do not rule on every 24/7 stream individually.
For creators in India, YouTube says you must apply to and be accepted into the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) to earn through YouTube. Ads, Premium revenue, Shopping, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers are among possible features, subject to eligibility and channel status. A continuous stream does not guarantee acceptance or a particular income. See YouTube’s India earnings guidance.

Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | The stream URL or key is missing, incorrect, or belongs to a different stream. | Compare the encoder’s connection fields with the details in the intended Live Control Room stream. Keep the key private; reset it if exposed. |
| The stream ends when a video finishes | The encoder is not set to advance to the next file or repeat the playlist. | Check the playlist’s end-of-clip, end-of-list, and loop settings in the encoder. YouTube auto-start/stop does not create a playlist. |
| The feed stops after a local interruption | The computer, power, internet connection, or encoder stopped sending. | Check the local device and network, then confirm whether the encoder resumes automatically or needs a manual restart. Recovery behavior is product-specific. |
| A scheduled stream is not live yet | The encoder has not started sending, or the stream has not been configured or started as expected. | Check Live Control Room for feed health and verify the encoder is sending to the matching stream URL and key. |
| No complete archive appears for the 24/7 broadcast | YouTube’s stated automatic-archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed complete 24/7 archive. | Use separate recordings or planned restarts if a complete recording matters, and verify current archive behavior. |
