To schedule a YouTube Live broadcast that plays a playlist from OBS, create the event in YouTube Studio, load the local videos into OBS Studio’s VLC Video source, and connect OBS to that event with its stream URL and stream key. Scheduling and playlist playback are separate: YouTube Studio schedules the event, while OBS sends the video feed. This workflow applies to creators in India using the general YouTube and OBS controls; the official guidance cited here does not describe a separate India-only scheduling control.
Before you start
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days, and that the creator meet its minimum age requirement of 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Activate live streaming early. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable it before the day and time you intend to schedule the broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
- Prepare your media files. Keep the video files available on the Windows PC and decide their order. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. See OBS’s Media Sources documentation.
- Check your connection. Your available upload bandwidth must accommodate the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% headroom; test with representative video movement and audio rather than relying on a speed-test result alone. See YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder settings guidance.
1. Schedule the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, select Manage, then Schedule Stream.
- Choose Create new or Reuse settings, enter the event details, and save. Follow the prompts to set the event’s date and time and other details.
- Open the scheduled event in Live Control Room and leave it available for the OBS connection and preview checks later.
The scheduled event is not itself a YouTube playlist. OBS will send the video files as a live encoder feed to this event. YouTube’s scheduling workflow is described in its encoder setup guide.

2. Build the playlist in OBS Studio
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene you intend to use for the broadcast.
- In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source. If it is unavailable, check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS (64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC).
- Open the source properties and add the local media files in the order you want them to play.
- Set Shuffle Playlist according to your desired order. Leave it off to play files in the listed order; turn it on to randomize playback.
- Set Loop Playlist according to what should happen at the end. Leave it off to stop after the final item; turn it on to restart the sequence from the beginning.
- Check the source’s visibility behaviour and audio track, then test every file. Confirm that the picture and sound are correct before connecting to the scheduled event.
OBS documents the VLC Video source and its playlist controls in its Media Sources guide. The loop and shuffle choices change end behaviour and order; neither creates or schedules a YouTube playlist.

- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the scheduled event and locate its stream settings.
- Copy the event’s stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Use the details for the scheduled event you created, not a different event’s key.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s stream-settings guidance.
- Start streaming in OBS to send the encoder feed. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before the event begins, then monitor stream health during the broadcast.
YouTube recommends setting up in advance and checking the preview before starting the event. For resolution, bitrate, and other encoder settings, use YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance rather than guessing a value: choose settings your PC can encode and your upload connection can sustain, with the recommended upload headroom.

4. Choose the right playlist behaviour

These controls are independent: you can choose whether playback is ordered or randomized and separately choose whether the sequence repeats. OBS explains these source properties in its official documentation.
Troubleshooting
Live streaming is unavailable in YouTube Studio
Check channel verification and eligibility, including whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, enable streaming earlier; YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Consult eligibility guidance and encoder setup instructions.

The VLC Video source is missing or will not load media
Install VLC and confirm its architecture matches OBS. In particular, 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Reopen OBS after installation and check the source properties again. See OBS’s Media Sources guide.

Videos play in the wrong order or stop unexpectedly
Turn off Shuffle Playlist to preserve the listed order. Turn on Loop Playlist if the sequence should restart when the final item ends; with looping off, playback stops at the end. Verify the selected files and their order in the source properties.

YouTube does not show the OBS feed in the event preview
Check that OBS is streaming and that the stream URL and key belong to the scheduled event currently open in Live Control Room. Re-enter the event’s connection details if needed, then check the preview and stream health. Keep the key private; YouTube explains stream-key management at Manage live stream settings.
The preview or stream health indicates connection trouble
Check that total streaming bitrate fits the available upload bandwidth and retain YouTube’s recommended approximately 20% headroom. Test with representative movement and audio, and review YouTube’s streaming tips and encoder settings.

Copyright and channel policy checks
Before broadcasting, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for every video and audio track in the playlist. A live encoder feed does not make copyrighted material safe to use. Review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules for your channel and content, and do not assume that scheduling an event or using OBS changes those rules.
