To run an always-on stream, schedule the YouTube event and separately configure a local encoder or cloud playout service to send the playlist to YouTube. Set both schedules to the same India time, then test the entire setup privately before relying on it.
What you need to schedule
An always-on playlist stream has two parts: the YouTube broadcast viewers watch, and the audio-video feed that an encoder or cloud playout service sends to YouTube. Google’s Live Streaming API treats these as separate resources: a liveBroadcast represents the event, while a liveStream represents the feed. Google describes a broadcast as “an event that can be watched on YouTube as it happens.” Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API guide explains the distinction.
YouTube Studio schedules the broadcast; it does not supply the playlist playback. You need a source that plays the prerecorded files, connects to YouTube with the broadcast’s stream URL and stream key, and remains available for the period you want to stream.
Choose how the playlist will run
Local software encoder
A computer running streaming software can play a media playlist and encode its output for YouTube. This gives you direct control over playback, but the computer, power and internet connection must remain available while it is the source. Check restart and reconnect behavior before leaving it unattended.

Cloud playout
A cloud service can play uploaded files without depending on a computer or home internet connection staying online. Before choosing one, check its playlist and file limits, supported schedule and timezone controls, stream duration, recovery behavior, video quality and recurring price. Provider feature descriptions are vendor claims; verify current plan terms directly.
Dedicated hardware
YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as an encoder with scheduled prerecorded-media support. A dedicated appliance is an option, not a requirement: a computer or cloud playout service may already meet your needs. Confirm the model and its current availability before buying.

Schedule the YouTube broadcast and playlist
- Enable live streaming early. If this is your first live stream, YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours. Enable Live at least a day ahead and verify the account; see YouTube’s live-streaming checklist.
- Schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Choose new settings or reuse previous ones, then set the title, description, visibility and intended start time. A scheduled stream can be promoted, and viewers can set reminders.
- Connect the playout source. If your encoder offers YouTube as a destination, select it and follow its connection steps. Otherwise, copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the encoder’s stream settings. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Build and schedule the playlist in the playout system. Add the prerecorded videos in the desired order, enable looping or continuous playback if needed, and set its start time to match the YouTube broadcast. In India, check which timezone the scheduler uses and confirm that the entered time is IST; scheduling interfaces do not all handle timezones in the same way.
- Test the complete path privately. Use a private stream to verify the video and audio, transitions between playlist items, scheduled start, and arrival of the encoder feed in YouTube’s preview. YouTube recommends testing the full setup before going live.

Plan for stream duration and archives
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be archived in full. If you need a complete archive, decide whether to use separate event broadcasts or another recording workflow. Google’s Live Streaming API guide to broadcasts also describes a 24/7 broadcast continuing while a separate event broadcast is started and completed.

Troubleshoot common scheduling problems
- The scheduled event starts, but there is no picture or sound: YouTube’s scheduled broadcast is not the playlist source. Confirm the encoder or cloud playout service is running, its feed appears in YouTube’s preview, and the correct stream URL and key are configured.
- The playlist starts at the wrong time: Compare the YouTube broadcast time with the playout scheduler’s timezone. Set the intended India start time in IST in the scheduler where possible, then confirm both systems show matching start times.
- The feed stops when you leave: A local encoder depends on its computer, power and internet connection. Check whether the machine slept, lost power or disconnected. For unattended playback without relying on a home computer, use cloud playout.
- The stream disconnects and does not resume: Check the encoder or service’s reconnect behavior and test a disconnect before launch. A provider’s recovery claim is not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
- The stream has no archive, or the archive is incomplete: Check the broadcast duration. YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours; plan another archive workflow for longer continuous streams.
- Live streaming is not available yet: For a first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours and verify the account before the planned start.
