YouTube Studio can schedule livestream events, but its documented encoder workflow does not provide a built-in recurring switch between daytime and nighttime playlists. To make that change automatically, you need a streaming service or custom automation that explicitly supports timed playlist transitions. If separate events are acceptable, schedule one event for each program and start the encoder at each event’s start time.
First decide what viewers should experience
There are two different ways to organize day and night programming:

- Two scheduled events: viewers move from one event to another. Each can have its own scheduled start and playlist, but the encoder still needs to send video when the event begins.
- One continuous event: the same broadcast stays open while its media changes on a timetable. This requires a player, service, or custom automation that supports the exact recurring playlist schedule you want.
Do not assume that a service advertising “24/7” also supports a repeating day/night timetable, or that transitions preserve one uninterrupted YouTube event. Confirm the schedule behavior, playlist boundaries, and interruption recovery with the provider before building your channel around it.

Option 1: Schedule separate events in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio’s encoder livestream workflow and enter the Live Control Room.
- Open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Create an event or reuse prior stream settings. Set the daytime event’s start time, title, and other event details.
- Schedule a separate nighttime event with its own start time and details. You can promote each event independently; YouTube notes that “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” Viewers can use the event URL and reminders.
- At the scheduled start, connect your encoder using the server URL and stream key shown in the live setup. Start the encoder’s transmission, wait for the preview, then select Go live as prompted in YouTube’s workflow.
- Share both event links in advance so viewers know where to find the daytime and nighttime programs.
Scheduling an event is not the same as transmitting video: scheduling alone is not documented as starting a local encoder. The reviewed YouTube guidance does not describe a recurring calendar that assigns different playlists to day and night or automatically switches playlists inside a broadcast.

Option 2: Use a prerecorded-video streaming service
Cloud playlist services can send uploaded prerecorded videos to YouTube without requiring your own computer to remain online for playback. Their “24/7” and playlist features have different limits, however. The following details are vendor-stated, not independent performance findings; check the linked help pages for current terms before subscribing.

Compare the practical details before choosing: schedule granularity, playlist length and video count, maximum run duration, automatic start and recovery, local hardware needs, plan cost, and whether a transition keeps the same YouTube event open or starts another one. The documented claims above do not establish that any one service covers every requirement.

Option 3: Build custom automation with the YouTube Live Streaming API
The YouTube Live Streaming API models scheduled events as liveBroadcast resources and outgoing video transmissions as liveStream resources. A live stream can be bound to multiple broadcasts, which gives custom software building blocks for scheduling events.

The API reference does not supply a ready-made playlist player or establish automatic playlist changes. You would need to build and operate the media playback, timetable, event lifecycle, and recovery logic yourself. Choose this route only if you can develop and maintain that system; scheduling API resources alone do not produce a day/night media switch.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
- Use video and audio you own or are authorized to stream; a playlist does not grant rights to its contents.
- Check music, footage, and other third-party material for the rights needed for a continuous public livestream, including any applicable geographic or monetization limits.
- Do not assume that looping prerecorded material automatically qualifies for monetization. Review YouTube’s current monetization and reused-content policies for your channel and format.
Troubleshooting before you rely on the schedule
- The scheduled event starts but no video appears: scheduling does not itself start the encoder. Confirm it is connected to the correct server URL and stream key, then start transmission and follow the preview/Go live workflow.
- The wrong playlist plays at a boundary: confirm how the provider handles playlist order, the end of a video, and time-zone or daylight-saving changes. Test the transition before announcing a recurring timetable.
- The stream ends or viewers see a new event: ask whether the service opens a new YouTube event at each transition and what its maximum run duration is. For documented examples, OneStream Live states a 30-day maximum and Restream’s playlist documentation states a 24-hour playlist limit.
- The cloud stream stops after YouTube disconnects: verify the service’s automatic recovery behavior and what action is required if YouTube rejects or resets the connection; do not assume all 24/7 services recover in the same way.
- Viewers cannot find the program: share the scheduled event URL ahead of time and make the separate-event nature clear if daytime and nighttime broadcasts use different event pages.
