Telegram QR codes can help you sign in faster, open group or channel invites, and access shared links without typing long URLs or usernames. Depending on the QR code, scanning it may open Telegram directly, show a login confirmation, or take you to a browser page that redirects into the app.
The exact method depends on what you are trying to scan and which device you are using. Android and iPhone users can often scan Telegram-related QR codes with the phone camera or built-in scanner features, while desktop and web users usually display a login QR code that must be scanned from the Telegram mobile app.

What Telegram QR Codes Are Used For
Telegram QR codes are mainly shortcuts that open a specific Telegram action without requiring you to type a phone number, username, invite link, or web address. Depending on the code, scanning it can sign you in, open a chat, take you to a group or channel, or launch a Telegram link in the app. They are especially useful when moving between devices, sharing communities offline, or helping someone connect to the right Telegram destination quickly.

When you open Telegram Desktop, Telegram Web, or the desktop app on a new computer, Telegram may show a QR code on the screen. You scan that code with the Telegram app on your phone, and your account is added to the new device after you confirm the login. This avoids entering an SMS code on the computer and keeps the approval process inside your already signed-in mobile app.

Common Telegram QR code uses
- Logging in on desktop or web: A QR code shown on Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web can be scanned from the Telegram mobile app to authorize a new session.
- Joining groups: Group admins can share invite links as QR codes, making it easier for people to join from posters, slides, event badges, or printed materials.
- Opening channels: Public or private channel links can be converted into QR codes so users can scan and subscribe without searching manually.
- Sharing profiles: A QR code can point to a Telegram username or profile link, allowing someone to start a chat or view a contact page.
- Opening bots: Bot links can be shared as QR codes, useful for customer support, event check-ins, payments, forms, or automated updates.
- Opening external links: Some QR codes are not Telegram-specific but may open a website, payment page, map, document, or app link through the phone camera or browser.
There is a difference between a Telegram login QR code and a Telegram invite or profile QR code. A login QR code is temporary and is generated by Telegram when you are trying to add a device. It should be scanned only from inside the Telegram app on a phone where you are already signed in. An invite, channel, profile, or bot QR code usually contains a link such as a t.me address. Those codes can often be scanned with the phone camera, a built-in QR scanner, or another QR reader, then opened in Telegram.
QR codes are also useful across platforms because Telegram runs on Android, iPhone, desktop, and web. For example, you might scan a login QR code from an Android phone to sign in to Telegram Desktop on Windows, or use an iPhone camera to scan a printed group invite and open it in the Telegram app. The exact scanning method depends on what the QR code is for, but the goal is the same: it turns a manual Telegram link or login step into a quick scan-and-open action.
How to Scan a Telegram Login QR Code
Telegram lets you sign in to Telegram Desktop and Telegram Web by scanning a QR code with the Telegram app on a phone where your account is already active. This is often faster than entering your phone number and confirmation code, and it also helps prevent typing your login details into the wrong place. The QR code login screen appears on the computer or browser, while the scan is performed from your Android phone or iPhone.
Scan a Telegram login QR code on Android
- Open Telegram on your Android phone.
- Tap the menu icon with three lines in the top-left corner.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Devices.
- Select Link Desktop Device.
- Point your phone camera at the QR code shown on Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web.
- Wait for Telegram to confirm the sign-in on your computer.
After the QR code is scanned, the desktop or web session opens automatically. In some cases, Telegram may ask for your two-step verification password if you have enabled it. Enter that password only inside the official Telegram app or official Telegram Desktop/Web login flow.
Scan a Telegram login QR code on iPhone
- Open the Telegram app on your iPhone.
- Tap Settings in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap Devices.
- Choose Link Desktop Device.
- Allow camera access if iOS asks for permission.
- Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen.
On iPhone, the scanner used for login is inside Telegram’s Devices menu, not the regular iOS Camera app. The standard Camera app can open links from QR codes, but it cannot authorize a Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web session. For account login, always use Settings > Devices > Link Desktop Device inside Telegram.
Where to find the QR code on desktop or web
To get the code, open the official Telegram Desktop app or go to web.telegram.org in a browser. Choose the QR code login option if it is not shown immediately. Keep the QR code visible on the screen while you scan it with your phone. QR login codes expire quickly, so if scanning does not work, refresh the page or restart the desktop app to generate a new code.

Telegram groups and channels can be shared with QR codes that point to an invite link, public username, or channel URL. When you scan the code, Telegram opens the group or channel preview so you can decide whether to join, subscribe, or simply view it if it is public. This is common for event communities, classroom groups, business support channels, newsletters, and private member chats.
On Android or iPhone, the easiest method is usually to scan the QR code with your phone camera. Open the Camera app, point it at the QR code, and tap the link banner that appears. If the link starts with t.me or opens Telegram directly, your phone should launch Telegram and show the group or channel page. For a group, tap Join Group. For a channel, tap Join or Subscribe, depending on your Telegram version and language settings.
If you are already inside Telegram and someone sends you an image containing a QR code, you may need to save the image or open it on another screen and scan it with your camera. Telegram does not provide a universal built-in QR scanner for every type of QR code in all chats. On many phones, you can also long-press the image in your gallery or use built-in text and code detection features, such as Google Lens on Android or Live Text/QR detection on iPhone, to open the Telegram invite link.
Joining from a printed or on-screen QR code
- Open your phone’s Camera app or a QR scanner feature built into your device.
- Point the camera at the QR code until a link notification appears.
- Tap the detected Telegram link, usually beginning with https://t.me/.
- Allow the link to open in Telegram if your phone asks which app to use.
- Review the group or channel name, profile photo, member count, and description.
- Tap Join, Join Group, or Subscribe.
For private groups and channels, the QR code normally contains an invite link. If the invite is valid, Telegram opens a preview with a join button. If the invite has expired, reached its usage limit, or was revoked by an admin, Telegram may show an error such as the link being invalid. In that case, you need a fresh QR code or invite link from an administrator.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For public groups and channels, the QR code may simply encode the public Telegram address, such as t.me/channelname. These are easier to open because they do not depend on a private invite token. You can also type the username into Telegram search if the QR code will not scan, but make sure the name, profile image, and subscriber count match the source so you do not join an impersonator.
| Platform | Best way to use the QR code |
|---|---|
| Android | Use the Camera app, Google Lens, or a built-in QR scanner, then open the t.me link in Telegram. |
| iPhone | Use the Camera app and tap the QR banner, or scan from Photos if iOS detects the code. |
| Desktop | Click the Telegram link if the QR code was decoded elsewhere, or scan it with your phone and continue in Telegram. |
| Telegram Web | Open the decoded t.me invite link in the browser, then choose to continue in Telegram Web or the app. |
Before joining, check that the QR code came from a trusted source. A QR code can hide the destination until it is scanned, so verify the Telegram preview before tapping the join button. If a group immediately asks for payments, recovery phrases, verification codes, or personal documents, leave and report it from the group or channel menu.

How to Scan QR Codes Using Your Phone Camera
If you have a Telegram-related QR code printed on paper, shown on another phone, displayed on a website, or included on a poster, the simplest way to scan it is usually with your phone’s built-in Camera app. In most cases, Telegram does not need to be open first. Your camera detects the QR code, shows a link preview or banner, and then opens Telegram if the QR code points to a Telegram profile, group, channel, bot, or login page.
Scan a Telegram QR code with an iPhone camera
- Open the Camera app on your iPhone.
- Point the camera at the QR code and keep it steady for a moment.
- Tap the yellow or white link banner that appears on the screen.
- If prompted, choose Open in Telegram or allow the link to open the Telegram app.
- Review the destination before joining a group, opening a bot, or starting a chat.
On iPhone, QR scanning must be enabled in camera settings. If nothing appears, open Settings, go to Camera, and turn on Scan QR Codes. Telegram links may also open first in Safari, especially if Telegram is not installed or if iOS needs confirmation before switching apps.
Scan a Telegram QR code with an Android camera
- Open the default Camera app on your Android phone.
- Aim the camera at the QR code so the full square is visible.
- Tap the detected link, QR icon, or pop-up card.
- Select Telegram if Android asks which app should open the link.
- Check the group, channel, username, or bot name before continuing.
Android QR scanning varies by phone brand. On many Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Motorola devices, the built-in camera recognizes QR codes automatically. On some models, you may need to enable QR scanning in the Camera settings, use Google Lens, or open the QR scanner tile from Quick Settings. If your camera does not detect the code, open the Google app or Google Lens, scan the code there, and then tap the Telegram link.
What happens after the camera scans the code
A Telegram QR code usually resolves to a link such as a public username, invite link, bot link, or channel address. After tapping the camera result, your phone may open Telegram directly or show a browser page with an Open button. If the QR code is for a private group or channel, the invite link may expire or require admin approval. If it is for a bot, Telegram may show a Start button before the bot can message you.
- For groups and channels: confirm the name, profile photo, and member count before tapping Join.
- For bots: check the bot username and avoid sending sensitive information unless you trust the source.
- For contact or profile codes: make sure the username matches the person or organization you expected.
- For unknown links: do not continue if the QR code opens a suspicious website instead of Telegram.
How to Scan QR Codes on Telegram Desktop or Web
Telegram Desktop and Telegram Web can display QR codes for signing in, but they generally do not work as QR scanners themselves. In most cases, the desktop or web app shows a login QR code on the computer screen, and you scan it with the Telegram app on your Android phone or iPhone. This links the desktop or browser session to your existing Telegram account without entering an SMS code.
Logging in to Telegram Desktop with a QR code
- Install and open Telegram Desktop on Windows, macOS, or Linux.
- On the login screen, choose Quick log in using QR code if it appears.
- Open Telegram on your phone.
- Go to Settings and open Devices.
- Tap Link Desktop Device.
- Point your phone at the QR code shown on the computer screen.
- Confirm the login if Telegram asks you to approve the new session.
On Android, the path is usually Telegram > menu icon > Settings > Devices > Link Desktop Device. On iPhone, open Telegram > Settings > Devices > Link Desktop Device. After the scan succeeds, Telegram Desktop opens your chats on the computer. Your phone must already be logged in to Telegram, and the QR code must still be valid on the desktop screen.
Logging in to Telegram Web with a QR code
- Open a browser and go to web.telegram.org.
- Select the QR login option if Telegram Web does not show it automatically.
- On your phone, open Telegram and go to Settings > Devices.
- Tap Link Desktop Device.
- Scan the QR code displayed in the browser window.
Telegram Web works in major browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox. If the QR code is not visible, refresh the page or switch between the available Telegram Web versions if offered. Some browser privacy settings, script blockers, or outdated cached data can prevent the login page from loading properly, so using a private window or clearing site data for Telegram Web may help.

Can Telegram Desktop or Web scan group QR codes?
Telegram Desktop and Web are not designed to use your computer webcam as a general QR scanner for joining groups, opening channel links, or reading external QR codes. If you have a group or channel QR code on paper, on another device, or in an image, scan it with your phone camera or with the Telegram mobile app if the QR code is a Telegram login code. When the code opens a t.me link, you can also copy that link and paste it into Telegram Desktop or your browser to open the group, channel, bot, or profile.
| Task | Use Desktop/Web? | Best method |
|---|---|---|
| Log in to Telegram Desktop | Yes, displays a QR code | Scan from Telegram mobile under Devices |
| Log in to Telegram Web | Yes, displays a QR code | Scan from Telegram mobile under Devices |
| Join a group from a QR code | Not directly | Scan with phone camera, then open the t.me link |
| Scan an external QR code with webcam | No native Telegram option | Use a phone camera or a separate QR scanner |
Troubleshooting Telegram QR Code Scanning Issues
If Telegram does not scan a QR code, the problem is usually caused by camera access, a poor-quality code image, an expired login session, or opening the code with the wrong scanner. Telegram login QR codes must be scanned inside the Telegram app on your phone, while group, channel, bot, and external QR codes may also open through the phone camera, depending on how the QR code was created.
Check camera permission and focus
On Android, open Settings, go to Apps, select Telegram, then open Permissions and allow Camera. On iPhone, open Settings, scroll to Telegram, and enable Camera. After changing the permission, close Telegram completely and open it again. If the scanner opens but cannot read the code, clean the camera lens, increase screen brightness on the device showing the code, and hold the phone steady for a few seconds.

Telegram Desktop and Telegram Web login QR codes are temporary. If the code has been displayed for too long, your phone may not react or the login may fail after scanning. On the desktop or web login screen, click Log in by QR Code again or reload the page to generate a new code. Then open Telegram on your phone and scan it from Settings > Devices > Link Desktop Device. Do not use the regular phone camera for Telegram login codes, because login approval must happen inside Telegram.
Use the right scanner for the QR code type
- Telegram desktop or web login: scan from Telegram mobile under Devices.
- Group or channel invite QR code: use your phone camera, Google Lens, iPhone Camera, or a QR scanner app if the code contains a t.me invite link.
- Contact, bot, or username QR code: scan with a camera app or Telegram if the option is available on your device.
- QR code in a saved image: use Google Photos, Google Lens, iPhone Photos Live Text, or another QR reader that can scan from images.
Fix blurry, cropped, or blocked codes
A QR code may fail if it is too small, partly hidden, distorted, or shown on a cracked or low-brightness screen. Ask the sender for the original QR image instead of a compressed screenshot, or open the invite link directly if one is available. If you are scanning from paper, place it on a flat surface with enough light and avoid glare. If you are scanning from another phone, increase that phone’s brightness and disable any screen filter that changes contrast or color.
Resolve app, network, and account issues
Update Telegram from Google Play, the App Store, Microsoft Store, or the official Telegram website, depending on your device. Restart both devices if you are linking Telegram Desktop or Web. If a group or channel QR code opens but you cannot join, the invite may be revoked, the group may be full, the channel may be private, or your account may be restricted by the group’s settings. If Telegram Web shows repeated login failures, try another browser, disable strict tracking protection for the session, clear site data for Telegram Web, or use Telegram Desktop instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I scan a Telegram QR code directly inside the Telegram app?
Telegram mainly uses its in-app QR scanner for logging in to Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web. On mobile, open Telegram, go to Settings, then Devices, and choose the option to link a desktop device by scanning the QR code shown on your computer. For group, channel, or external QR codes, your phone’s camera app is usually the easiest method.

How do I scan a Telegram login QR code on Android or iPhone?
Open Telegram on your phone and go to Settings. Tap Devices, choose Link Desktop Device or Scan QR Code, then point your phone at the QR code shown on Telegram Desktop or Telegram Web. After scanning, confirm the login if prompted, and your account will open on the computer.
Can I join a Telegram group or channel by scanning a QR code?
Yes, if the QR code contains a Telegram invite link, scanning it will open the group or channel invite page. Use your phone camera, Google Lens, or the iPhone Camera app, then tap the Telegram link that appears. You may still need to tap Join after Telegram opens, and private invite links can expire or be revoked by the admin.
What should I do if Telegram’s QR code won’t scan?
Make sure the QR code is fully visible, not blurry, and bright enough for your camera to read. If you are logging in on desktop or web, refresh the QR code because Telegram login codes expire quickly. Also check that your Telegram app is updated, your camera permission is enabled, and you are scanning the code from the correct Devices section.
Can I scan a Telegram QR code from a screenshot or image?
Yes, but Telegram itself may not scan every QR code from an image file. On Android, you can use Google Lens or your gallery’s built-in QR detection if available. On iPhone, open the image in Photos and press the detected QR link, or use Live Text if your device supports it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBottom Line
Telegram QR codes can be used for quick login, joining groups or channels, and opening shared profiles or links, but the exact steps depend on your device. On mobile, you can usually scan Telegram-related codes through the app or your phone camera, while desktop and web logins rely on scanning the QR code from an already signed-in Telegram mobile app.
If you are trying to sign in, open Telegram on your phone and use the built-in QR login scanner; if you are joining a chat or opening an external code, your camera app or Telegram link handling may be enough. When a code does not work, check that it is still valid, scan it in good lighting, and make sure you trust the source before opening any link.
