What’s actually slowing this PC down?

For a visible browser window or a selected part of a webpage, use PowerPoint desktop’s Insert > Screenshot command. It inserts the capture on your slide without first saving an image file. For a webpage that continues below the screen, capture the full page with Microsoft Edge’s Screenshot tool, copy it, and paste it into PowerPoint.
Choose the capture method that fits the page
| Method | What it captures | Intermediate file? | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| PowerPoint desktop: Insert > Screenshot | An open browser window or a selected screen region | No | A visible page or part of one |
| Microsoft Edge: Screenshot, then copy and paste | A selected area or a full webpage, including content below the visible screen | No, if you copy and paste; Edge also offers saving to a file | A long webpage |
| PowerPoint for the web | A screenshot copied to the clipboard and pasted onto a slide | No, if clipboard paste works | When working in a browser |
| Mac screenshot shortcuts, then insert | The whole screen, a selected area, or a window/menu | Yes | A save-then-insert fallback |
Microsoft documents these features for its supported products, but menu availability and behavior can vary by PowerPoint version, platform, Edge version, device, or market. If a named command is missing, check the version and feature availability for the app you are using.

Insert a visible website window or screen clipping in PowerPoint desktop
- Open the webpage in your browser and leave the browser window open and not minimized.
- Bring PowerPoint to the foreground and select the slide where the screenshot should appear.
- Choose Insert > Screenshot.
- To insert the whole browser window, select its thumbnail in the Available Windows gallery.
- To capture only part of the screen, choose Screen Clipping. Bring the browser to the front before returning to PowerPoint so it appears first in the gallery, then drag over the region you want.
The capture is placed on the slide directly; you do not need to create an image file first. Only open windows that are not minimized appear in the Available Windows gallery. Microsoft describes this feature as a way to add a snapshot without leaving the app you are working in (Microsoft Support: Insert a screenshot or screen clipping).

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Capture a full webpage with Microsoft Edge
- Open the page in Edge.
- Open the Screenshot tool with Ctrl+Shift+S or use the right-click menu.
- Choose the full-page capture option, or select an area if you only need part of the page.
- When the capture appears in the overlay, choose Copy.
- Switch to PowerPoint, select the destination slide, and paste.
Edge also offers an option to save the capture to a file. For direct insertion via the clipboard, use Copy and paste instead. Edge says copied screenshots can be pasted as images into PowerPoint and other applications (Microsoft Edge: Screenshot Tool in Microsoft Edge | Capture Full Webpages). Feature availability and behavior can vary by device, market, and browser version.

Paste a screenshot into PowerPoint for the web
- Capture and copy the screenshot using a supported screenshot tool, such as Edge’s Screenshot tool.
- In PowerPoint for the web, select the slide and paste the image.
- If the browser asks for clipboard access, allow it and try pasting again.
Clipboard behavior can differ from PowerPoint desktop because of browser limitations. Microsoft’s guidance also says to copy only website images for which you have a license (Microsoft Support: Copy and paste in PowerPoint for the web).
Take and insert a screenshot on a Mac
Microsoft documents a save-then-insert route for Mac rather than direct capture from the PowerPoint Screenshot gallery:

- Press Shift+Command+3 to capture the entire screen, or Shift+Command+4 to select an area.
- To capture a window or menu, press Shift+Command+4, then press the Spacebar and select the window or menu.
- In PowerPoint, choose Insert > Pictures > Picture from File, then select the saved screenshot.
Because this method saves a screenshot before insertion, it creates an intermediate file. Shortcuts and menu names may vary with macOS or PowerPoint versions.

Fix common capture problems
- The browser is missing from PowerPoint’s Screenshot gallery: Make sure the window is open and not minimized. For Screen Clipping, bring the browser to the front before returning to PowerPoint.
- The capture cuts off the lower part of the page: PowerPoint’s window capture shows the visible browser window, not a full-page scroll capture. Use Edge’s full-page Screenshot option instead.
- Paste does not work in PowerPoint for the web: Allow clipboard access if prompted. Browser restrictions can affect paste behavior; try copying again or use PowerPoint desktop.
- Edge’s Screenshot command is unavailable: Availability may depend on browser version, device, or market. Use PowerPoint’s screen capture for the visible area or the Mac save-and-insert method where applicable.
- The inserted image is not laid out as expected: Microsoft’s cited instructions do not specify exact clipboard format, resolution, color fidelity, or how an unusually long capture will fit a slide. Inspect the result in PowerPoint and resize or crop it as needed.
Rights and reuse
Capturing a webpage does not grant permission to reuse its text, photographs, graphics, or other content. Microsoft’s PowerPoint for the web guidance says to copy only website images for which you have a license. Check the applicable permissions before distributing a presentation containing captured material.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I capture a webpage without saving a picture first?
Yes. PowerPoint desktop inserts an open browser window or screen clipping directly, and Edge can copy a capture to the clipboard for pasting.
Does PowerPoint’s Screenshot command capture a whole scrolling webpage?
It captures a window or screen region. For content below the visible screen, use Edge’s full-page Screenshot feature.
