To save a recipe from Facebook or Instagram, first identify where the instructions live: in the caption or comments, on a linked recipe page, or inside a video. Then use the recipe app’s documented social-sharing workflow; a website importer that accepts blog URLs may not accept social-post links the same way.
Check where the recipe is written
A social post can contain recipe information in several places, and an importer may handle each differently:

- Caption or comments: Ingredients and steps may be written directly in the post text or a first comment.
- Linked recipe page: The post may point to a food blog, where the full recipe and structured recipe data are available.
- Video narration or on-screen text: Instructions may be spoken or shown in a Reel or other video without appearing in the caption.
These are distinct extraction paths, not interchangeable versions of one URL import. An app designed to parse websites may not extract details from a social video.
Save an Instagram recipe
CookBook: share from Instagram
CookBook’s help article, dated July 17, 2025, gives these app-specific instructions: open the Instagram recipe, tap Share, choose Share to on iOS or Share on Android, then select CookBook. CookBook says it checks the caption first and follows a post link if the caption is empty. It says imports work best when the full recipe appears in the caption or first comment. CookBook: copy the link as a fallback
If direct sharing is unavailable, CookBook documents a fallback: copy the video URL, open CookBook, and paste it on the dashboard. This is a CookBook-specific route, not a guarantee that pasting an Instagram URL into any recipe app will work.
Our Meals: use Instagram’s share route
Our Meals directs users to share Instagram content from inside Instagram for its social-import path. Its ordinary website-link workflow is intended for websites and blogs, rather than social-post URLs. See Our Meals’ import guidance.

Our Meals: share from Facebook
Our Meals likewise says to share Facebook recipes from the Facebook app instead of using its standard website-and-blog paste flow. Follow the app’s own share instructions for the route it supports; the available guidance does not establish a universal Facebook sharing sequence for every device or app version. Other app-specific capabilities
Snap and Simmer says it supports public Facebook posts and videos. The company describes a process that checks captions and linked blogs, and can handle a recipe shown only in video by listening to spoken content and reading on-screen text. The App Store listing for Recipe Social says version 1.0.1 adds Facebook-link import and describes importing recipes from social links and screenshots. The listing gives an August 11 release date without a year, so the date should not be read as a specific year. View the Recipe Social App Store listing.
Why a social recipe import may be incomplete
An app may be trying to extract a caption, follow a link to a recipe site, parse information on that site, or interpret video content. Support varies by app and workflow. For example, Our Meals distinguishes social sharing from its website-and-blog paste flow, while CookBook recommends a complete caption or first comment and documents a copy-link fallback. Snap and Simmer describes video extraction as a product feature.

No cited source establishes that any importer works for every post, account, device, or privacy setting, or provides a comparative success rate. A public post that a person can view is not necessarily guaranteed to import cleanly.

Troubleshoot an incomplete recipe
- Read the post text. Check the caption and comments, especially the first comment, for missing ingredients or steps.
- Open the recipe link. If the post links to a food blog, use the recipe app’s website-import workflow on that page rather than assuming it can parse the social URL.
- Use the app’s social workflow. Share directly from Facebook or Instagram when the app documents that route.
- Try the documented fallback. If direct sharing is unavailable, use a copy-link-and-paste option only when that app offers it.
- Review the saved recipe. Check the ingredient list, quantities, and instructions against the original post or linked page, and correct anything that did not carry over.
Importing does not grant republication rights
Saving a recipe for personal use in a digital cookbook is different from reposting its photo, video, or text. Meta says content posted to Instagram must not violate another person’s intellectual-property rights; finding content online or crediting its creator does not by itself remove copyright concerns.
