To save one image, right-click it and choose the browser’s save or download option. To collect several images from a page, a bulk image downloader extension can scan the page and let you review, filter, and select candidates before downloading. Start with the browser’s built-in controls when they are enough; if you install an extension, check which sites it can access and narrow that access where practical.
Save one image without installing an extension
For a single image, try the browser’s own image context menu first. Open the page, right-click the image, and choose the available save or download action. The exact label and available actions can differ by browser, operating system, and webpage. If the menu does not offer a save option, or the image is displayed in a way the browser does not expose as an ordinary image, try the page’s own download control or consider whether a bulk extension’s preview is useful.
Saving a file is not the same as getting the highest-resolution original. A page may show a resized version, use a background image rather than a standard image element, or load images only after interaction. A downloader can only offer what it can identify and access on that page; neither a browser menu nor an extension should be expected to bypass site restrictions or retrieve inaccessible originals.
Choose where downloads go in Chrome
Chrome Help documents two relevant choices: use a default download destination, or have Chrome ask where to save each file. Open Chrome’s Settings, then Downloads, and choose the destination behavior that suits you. A fixed folder is convenient for repeated downloads; asking each time makes it easier to choose a project folder and inspect the filename before saving.

When a bulk image extension helps
A bulk image downloader is useful when a page contains many candidate images and selecting each one through the context menu would be tedious. Depending on the extension, it may display a gallery or list, let you filter by image properties, remove duplicates, and download selected items together. Those are different feature sets, not guarantees shared by every extension.
Two Chrome Web Store listings illustrate the range. The listing for Image Downloader describes filtering and duplicate removal and says page access is used when its popup is activated. The listing for Download All Images describes a gallery, filters, and bulk downloading. These are vendor descriptions, not independent evaluations; feature availability and compatibility can change, so check the current store listing before installing. Neither listing establishes that the extension works on every site.
Typical batch workflow
- Open the target page and allow it to finish loading. If images appear as you scroll, scroll through the relevant content first; lazy-loaded items may not be present until the page requests them.
- Install an image downloader from your browser’s official extension store. Read the listing and review the permission prompt rather than assuming all downloaders ask for the same access.
- Open the extension on the target page. Review the images it finds, apply any available filters, and select only the files you want.
- Start the download and use the browser’s download controls to locate the files or choose a destination when prompted.
- Inspect the saved files and filenames. If an expected image is missing, see the troubleshooting section rather than assuming a different extension can recover an inaccessible original.
Review extension permissions before granting access
A bulk extension that scans webpage content needs access to the page for that operation. That access can be broader than downloading a file with the browser’s built-in menu, so check the specific extension’s listing and permission prompt. Chrome’s extension controls let you scope site access, including allowing access only when the extension is selected, on the current site, or across sites. In Chrome, open the extensions menu, use the extension’s options or manage control, and review its site access in the extension settings. Labels and menu placement can vary between Chrome versions.

Chrome Help notes that some extensions need permission to read and change site data and that users can change these permissions. Chrome’s developer documentation explains that extension APIs generally require declared permissions, while optional permissions can be requested at runtime. The practical point is to grant only the access you need and revisit it if your use changes. Google also documents Enhanced Safe Browsing warnings for extensions it does not consider trusted under its stated policy context; a warning merits careful review rather than an assumption that the extension is safe or unsafe based on one signal alone.

- Is page access needed for the extension’s stated scanning function?
- Can you grant access only when the extension is selected or only on the site where you need it?
- Does the store listing explain what the extension does with page access?
- Are you comfortable with the requested permissions and the publisher information shown by the store?
Choose between built-in downloads and an extension

If you only need one file, an extension adds another installation and permission decision without necessarily improving the result. If you need many files, a gallery and selection controls can make the review process more manageable. Compare extensions by the controls they actually list, not by a blanket assumption that every extension finds all page images or saves them in a preferred format.

Troubleshoot missing images and download problems
The context menu does not show a save option
The item may not be exposed as a normal image, or the page may be handling clicks itself. Try the page’s own download option. If your goal is to gather several visible images, an extension may provide a separate gallery view, but it cannot guarantee access to every image on the site.
The extension finds fewer images than the page appears to contain
Some page content may load only after scrolling or interacting with the page, and an extension can only show items it can identify. Scroll through the relevant section, wait for it to load, then open the extension again. If items remain absent, treat that as a limitation rather than evidence that the extension can bypass the page’s access controls.

Pause before granting it. Check whether Chrome offers access only when selected or only on the current site, and whether that scope is enough for the task. If the requested access does not make sense for the extension’s stated purpose, do not grant it merely to proceed.

Files save to an unexpected folder
Check the browser’s Downloads settings. In Chrome, choose a default destination or enable the prompt to choose a location for each download. In Firefox, Mozilla says extensions using download permission save through the browser download manager and follow its settings, so check those settings as well.
A downloaded file is not the original you expected
The page may have displayed a resized or otherwise transformed image. The available evidence does not establish that either cited extension can recover original source files. Check whether the site offers a separate download or original-size view, and respect any restrictions the site presents.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does saving an image give me permission to republish it?
No. Downloading a file does not establish copyright ownership or permission to reuse it. Check the image’s license and the site’s terms before republishing.
Will an image downloader extension work on every website?
That is not established for the cited extensions. Their store listings describe features, but do not guarantee compatibility with every site or access to every image.
