Start with the console and the first games you truly want, set a total spending limit, then save toward that amount on a schedule. For U.S. buyers, Nintendo’s Switch 2 MSRP is $499.99 as of September 1, 2026; tax, games, and any genuinely needed extras raise the real target. Treat bundles and discounts as useful only when they lower the cost of items already on your list.
Set a spending cap before you shop
Write down the console you want and two or three games you expect to play first. Set a maximum total for that purchase before comparing offers. Include estimated sales tax and delivery, plus an online membership or accessory only if you already know your household needs it.

Do not borrow or use money reserved for essentials to meet the target. If the total does not fit your budget, extend the saving timeline, wait for a sale, or remove a lower-priority purchase.

Subtract money you have already set aside from your cap, then divide what remains by the number of pay periods or months before you plan to buy. That is a planning target, not a reason to spend more than you can afford. If the resulting amount is too high, give yourself more time or revise the list.

Use the current U.S. console price as your starting point
Nintendo announced that the U.S. Switch 2 MSRP rose from $449.99 to $499.99 effective September 1, 2026. Nintendo said the original Switch family’s pricing was not changing in that announcement. These are U.S. announced prices, not guaranteed checkout prices; retailers, tax, stock, and location can affect what you pay. Check Nintendo’s price update announcement and the retailer’s checkout total before you commit.
Compare bundle savings against your actual game list
A bundle is a saving only when its contents replace spending you had already planned. Compare the console plus your wanted games with the bundle’s price, and count only items you would have bought anyway. Nintendo notes that availability can be limited and actual bundle savings may vary.

The Switch Sports Resort offer’s included membership is not free indefinitely: if you do not want the ongoing service, note the renewal date and cancel before renewal. Do not count a membership as a benefit if you would not otherwise choose it.
Check game prices in both formats
Digital is not automatically cheaper than physical. Nintendo says new Nintendo-published digital titles exclusive to Switch 2 have different MSRPs from physical versions beginning with May 2026 preorders. Retailers set their own prices, and prices vary by title. Compare the exact game’s checkout prices in both formats, including delivery and any relevant resale value before deciding. Choose the format that fits your own costs and preferences rather than assuming one is always the bargain. For a physical copy, consider the delivery charge and whether you expect to resell it; for a digital copy, compare its current price directly with the physical edition.
Look for lower prices without buying extra
Nintendo Support says sales on digital software and refurbished physical games and hardware are often available through Nintendo Store at lower prices than new. It also says Nintendo Store currently has no discount codes and Nintendo does not offer coupons for retailer purchases. Check the Nintendo Store and retailer listings, then compare the final total rather than the advertised discount.

For refurbished or used purchases, check the stated condition, return terms, shipping, and checkout total before buying. A lower sticker price may not be the lower overall cost if delivery or a restrictive return policy changes the deal.
- Keep a short wanted-games list and wait for a sale on anything that is not urgent.
- Do not add a game just to qualify for free shipping or a discount threshold unless the total still falls and you already wanted that game.
- Do not treat accessories as required. For example, Nintendo Store lists a Samsung microSD Express Card 256GB for Switch 2 at $59.99 as of October 5, 2026; consider it only if you have a storage need. Nintendo’s listing
Make the purchase decision on the checkout total
Before paying, compare the standalone console and planned games against each bundle or sale you found. Include tax, delivery, membership renewal if applicable, and the cost of any accessory you genuinely need. If an offer includes something unwanted, price the items separately and buy only the combination that fits your cap.
