To read a digital magazine without internet, download the issue inside the service’s official app while you’re online, then confirm its completed-download indicator before you disconnect. A magazine listed on a shelf or in a library is not necessarily stored on your device. The exact steps—and how long the issue stays available—depend on the service.
Before you go offline
- Open the magazine service’s app on the device you plan to use.
- Find the specific issue and choose its download option. Being able to see the cover in a library does not by itself mean the issue is saved locally.
- Wait for the service’s ready indicator, then open the issue to confirm it loads. Keep the app and issue on the device until you are ready to read.
Downloads generally stay inside the service’s reader. Do not assume they create a PDF or a portable file you can move to another app.

How to download a magazine on Libby
- In the Libby mobile app, open Shelf and find the issue on the Magazine Rack.
- Tap the issue’s status control to open its options panel, scroll to the bottom, and tap Download.
- Wait for the checkmark beside the issue. That checkmark indicates the download is complete.
Libby magazines are not downloaded automatically. Libby’s website requires an internet connection, so use the mobile app for offline reading. An issue can be kept on the Magazine Rack for seven days and renewed for another seven days; its download is removed when the issue leaves the rack because it expires or is replaced. The kept issue and download are on the current device only, so repeat the process on each device you want to use offline. How to download Apple News+ issues on iPhone
- In the News app, locate an issue through News+ > My Magazines, Catalog, Following, or the magazine’s channel from Search.
- Tap the More button below the cover, or touch and hold the cover, then choose Download Issue.
- To download several issues, go to News+ > My Magazines > More > Select, choose the issues, and tap Download.
- To reopen completed downloads, go to News+ > Downloaded.
Removing an issue from Downloaded frees its local copy; Apple says it can still be accessed through My Magazines. News+ is not available in every country or region. These steps are for iPhone; labels and availability may differ on other devices or software versions. Apple’s instructions are in Manually download Apple News+ issues on iPhone.

Can you read ZINIO magazines offline?
In the phone or tablet Reader
- Sign in to ZINIO and open Library.
- Tap the three-dot menu under the magazine cover and choose Download Issue.
- Wait for the green checkmark, which indicates the issue is ready offline.
In the web reader
- Sign in and open your library, then choose a publication.
- Open the three-dot menu on the cover and click Download Issue.
- Wait until the blue progress bar is full before going offline.
ZINIO says offline reading in its web reader is not supported in Safari. Its downloads are available in ZINIO Reader, not as externally accessible PDFs. ZINIO describes offline availability through its Reader on iPhone and iPad, Android phones and tablets, and PC or Mac; check that the Reader is available and compatible with your device. What to check if an issue won’t open offline
- No completed indicator: Stay connected and wait for the checkmark or full progress bar. A visible cover alone does not confirm a completed download.
- You are using a browser: Libby’s website requires internet, and ZINIO does not support offline reading in Safari. Use the service’s supported app or reader.
- The issue disappeared: In Libby, the download goes away when the issue is removed from the Magazine Rack at expiration or replacement.
- You switched devices: Libby keeps the issue on the current device, so download it separately on the device you plan to take offline.
- You expect a separate file: A download button saves the issue for that service’s reader; it does not necessarily create a transferable PDF.
