Start with your browser’s Print or Save as PDF option and inspect the preview. If the 3D model disappears, shifts, or shows the wrong view, capture the model in its chosen state as an image and convert that image to PDF instead. Either route creates a fixed document, not a live 3D viewer; keep the website URL if someone will need to rotate or explore the model.
Choose between a readable document and a snapshot of the model
Use Print to PDF when you want the page’s text and conventional document layout. Use a screenshot when the important thing is a particular 3D view or the model is missing from print preview. These workflows preserve rendered output; they do not preserve the website’s model controls in the resulting PDF.

Save the page with your browser’s Print to PDF workflow
- Open the website and wait for its text, images, and 3D scene to load.
- Set the model to the angle and zoom you want. If the scene animates, wait until it reaches the frame you intend to keep.
- Open the browser’s Print command from its menu or keyboard shortcut.
- Choose Save to PDF or the equivalent PDF destination.
- Review the print preview before saving. Check that the model, surrounding text, and page breaks look right.
Firefox’s print controls document options including page selection, paper orientation, scale, margins, and printing backgrounds. If color or a background is absent, check the print-background setting. For a wide model area, try landscape orientation or a different scale. These layout adjustments may help, but they cannot guarantee a script-rendered 3D canvas will print.
Capture the 3D view when printing does not work
- Return to the live page and position the model in the view worth preserving.
- Use a browser screenshot tool to capture the whole page or, where supported, the specific element containing the model. Firefox DevTools documents full-page and element screenshots.
- Convert the image to PDF, or insert it into a document and export the document as PDF.
- Open the PDF and check the image’s size, clarity, and cropping.
A screenshot records pixels rather than the model’s controls. If the angle matters or one view is not enough to explain the model, capture several views and label them in the document. Keep the original page URL with the PDF for anyone who needs to interact with the model.

Capture a long page or add annotations
For content extending beyond the visible window, TechSmith documents Snagit’s scrolling capture and a workflow for saving captures as PDFs. Treat it as an optional visual-capture route: a scrolling capture does not preserve 3D interaction, and its suitability for a particular 3D page is not guaranteed. A full-page screenshot is another option; Firefox DevTools documents that capability.
Automate PDF or screenshot capture with Chrome
Chrome Headless supports both --print-to-pdf and --screenshot. For a basic PDF, the documented example is:

For protocol-level scripts, Chrome DevTools Protocol’s Page.printToPDF accepts settings such as orientation, margins, scale, and whether to display headers and footers. These control the document output, not the interactivity of the 3D view.
Troubleshoot missing or incorrect output
- The model is absent in the PDF: Check the print preview. If it is absent there, use a screenshot of the visible model and make a PDF from that image.
- The PDF shows the wrong angle: Set the model’s position before printing or screenshotting. For scripted capture, ensure the page has reached the desired state rather than relying on a timeout alone.
- The page is cut off or too wide: In print settings, try landscape orientation, adjust scale or margins, and recheck the preview. For a visual record, capture the relevant element or use a full-page capture.
- Colors or backgrounds are missing: Enable the browser’s print-background option if available. If the result still differs from the screen, use an image capture.
- The capture is blank or incomplete: Wait for the scene and its assets to load, then capture again. Automated time limits can stop a capture before loading finishes.
- The recipient expects to rotate the model: A PDF made through these print and screenshot workflows is static. Send the original website URL as well.
