The most reliable way to save a website as a PDF is to open the browser’s Print preview, choose a PDF destination, check the page preview, adjust layout settings, and save. This creates a fixed document for reading, sharing, printing, or offline storage. Exact menu names vary by browser version, operating system, and language.
Save any webpage as a PDF from a computer
- Open the page you want to keep.
- Open the browser’s print command. On Windows and Linux this is usually Ctrl+P; on Mac it is usually Command+P. You can also use the browser menu and choose Print.
- In the print window, select a destination such as Save to PDF or another PDF printer.
- Inspect the preview and change orientation, paper size, scale, margins, pages, color, or background graphics as needed.
- Choose Save, select a folder and filename, then open the resulting PDF to verify it.
This print-to-PDF route is different from a browser command such as Save Page As. Save Page As downloads a webpage or related files; it does not necessarily create a PDF.
Chrome on Windows, Linux and Mac
Print to PDF
- Open the webpage.
- Choose File > Print, or press Ctrl+P on Windows/Linux or Command+P on Mac.
- In the print window, select the PDF destination. Chrome commonly shows Save to PDF; the wording can differ with the operating system.
- Set pages, paper size, orientation, scale, margins and any background option exposed by the dialog.
- Click Save and choose where to store the file.
When Chrome’s Save Page As is appropriate
Chrome also offers More > More tools > Save Page As. Use that when you want a downloaded webpage file or an offline page package. If the requested output is specifically a PDF, use Print instead.
Firefox on a computer
- Open the page and open the Firefox menu.
- Choose Print to open the print preview.
- Set Destination to Save to PDF.
- Review the preview, then save the file.
Firefox’s print controls can include orientation, page selection, color mode, paper size, scale, pages per sheet, margins, headers and footers, backgrounds, and two-sided printing. A Simplified format may be available for article-like pages. It can remove clutter, but it changes the appearance and is not available together with printed backgrounds in the documented controls. Firefox also notes that a webpage can be designed to print differently from its on-screen version, so previewing is essential.

Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage and choose Print from the Edge menu, or use the keyboard shortcut.
- Choose the PDF destination shown by your system’s print interface.
- Open More settings and review the available options.
- Enable Background graphics when colors, images or other background elements are required; leave it off when you want a simpler document.
- Check the preview and save the PDF.
Destination names and the exact location of settings vary by operating system and managed-workplace configuration.
Safari on iPhone
- Open the page in Safari.
- Tap the page menu and then Share. Depending on your tab layout, Share may be shown directly.
- Tap Markup to preview the PDF and, if needed, add annotations.
- Use More or Done, then choose Save File To.
- Name the file, select a location in Files and tap Save.
The Markup route creates a PDF and lets you annotate before saving.
Safari on iPad
- Open the webpage in Safari and tap Share.
- Choose View More, then Markup.
- Annotate the preview if required and tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, enter a filename, select a folder and save.
Safari on Mac: PDF versus web archive
Apple’s documented Safari-for-Mac saving guide describes File > Save As for two formats: Web Archive, which stores page resources and keeps links working while their destination pages remain available, and Page Source, which stores the HTML source. Those are not PDF files, and the cited guide does not document a direct PDF-export sequence.

If you need a PDF on a Mac, use the print interface provided by your current macOS and Safari installation and select its PDF destination when available. Because labels and controls vary, inspect the preview rather than relying on a single menu path. Do not choose Web Archive or Page Source when a fixed PDF is the required deliverable.

Fix clipping, blank pages and poor pagination
Text or images are cut off
- Switch between portrait and landscape.
- Reduce scale slightly or choose a wider paper size.
- Adjust margins and remove unnecessary headers or footers.
- Check whether the page is intentionally designed to print differently from the screen.
Colors or images disappear
Enable background graphics in browsers that expose that setting, such as Edge. In Firefox, check the backgrounds option. Background printing can increase ink use and may interact with Simplified format.
The PDF has too much navigation or advertising
Use Firefox’s Simplified format if it is offered and the changed layout is acceptable. Otherwise, hide the clutter with the page’s own reader view or print only the relevant page range when those controls are available.

The preview is empty or the page never finishes loading
- Wait for the page’s content and images to finish loading before opening Print.
- Reload the page and try again.
- Disable a conflicting extension temporarily.
- If the site requires sign-in, confirm that you are still authenticated.
- Try another browser’s print preview to determine whether the issue is page-specific or browser-specific.
Only part of a long page appears
Use the print dialog’s page range and layout controls, and confirm that the preview has generated all pages before saving. Some pages use infinite scrolling or content that appears only after interaction; such content may not be present until it has loaded.
The file is huge
Remove unnecessary background graphics, select only needed pages, reduce scale where readable, or use a simpler format. Large image-heavy pages naturally produce larger PDFs.
