On desktop Chrome or Firefox, use the browser’s print preview and save the page as a PDF. Check the preview before saving: SVG charts and canvas drawings can behave differently from ordinary text and may be clipped, missing, or rendered at an unsuitable size. If you control the page, print-specific CSS or a canvas export can help address chart problems.
Save a webpage as a PDF in Chrome or Firefox
- Let the page finish loading. Wait for charts and other content to appear. If a chart is interactive, select the view or data you want included before printing.
- Open print preview. In Chrome on Windows or Linux, press Ctrl+P; on Mac, press Command+P. In Firefox, open the menu and choose Print.
- Choose the PDF destination. In Chrome, select Save as PDF. In Firefox, select Save to PDF.
- Review the preview before saving. Check that the charts are present and that pages are not clipped. Adjust orientation, scale, margins, and background printing if those controls are available and help the result.
- Save and inspect the file. Open the saved PDF and check the pages containing charts, not just the preview. Browser controls and output can vary by platform and setup.
Chrome documents its computer print workflow in Print from Chrome. Firefox documents printing and the Save to PDF option in How to print web pages in Firefox. A PDF is a print rendering, not necessarily a copy of every interactive or animated screen detail. Mozilla also notes that webpages may be arranged differently for paper than on screen.

Why SVG charts may be missing or incomplete
SVG is vector graphics, but its behavior in a printed page depends partly on how the page embeds and uses it. A chart might be inline SVG, an SVG loaded as an image, or an SVG used as a CSS background; it may also rely on scripts or external assets.
MDN documents SVG support in HTML and image contexts, while noting that browsers may disable JavaScript and block external resources such as images or stylesheets when SVG is used in an image context. If a chart is missing, inspect how the page supplies it and whether it depends on outside resources; there is no single print setting that fixes every SVG failure. See MDN’s guide to SVG as an image.

Why canvas charts can print poorly
A canvas is a bitmap drawing surface, not a semantic vector chart. Its drawing is made of pixels, so enlarging it for print cannot recover detail that was not drawn into those pixels. MDN also warns that changing a canvas’s displayed size with CSS scales the rendering and can distort it; for a page you control, set the drawing dimensions through the canvas element’s width and height attributes or through JavaScript. See MDN’s canvas element reference.
If the chart is too small, distorted, or absent, first check the print preview and the saved PDF. If you control the page, arrange for the canvas to be drawn at an appropriate size before printing and use print-specific styles to make its layout suitable for the page.

If you control the page, adapt it for printing
Print-specific CSS lets an author change how a page is presented on paper or in a PDF. The @media print rule can adjust page presentation, while @page can set page dimensions, orientation, and margins. The beforeprint and afterprint events can help adapt the page UI around printing. These tools help prepare a page; they do not guarantee that every chart dependency will render. MDN explains these options in its printing guide.
Export a finished canvas as an image
As an author-side fallback, you can export the finished drawing and print the resulting image. HTMLCanvasElement.toDataURL() defaults to PNG and encodes at 96 dpi for formats that support resolution metadata. MDN recommends toBlob() instead of building a large in-memory data URL for larger images. A canvas export can fail with a SecurityError if the canvas is not origin-clean, for example when it contains content from another site. The export is raster, not a resolution-independent vector chart, so its pixel dimensions need to suit the intended print size. See MDN’s toDataURL() reference.

- BROAD COMPATIBILITY – Works with both Windows and Mac devices, be it laptop or computer
MDN also documents HTMLCanvasElement.mozPrintCallback, a Firefox-specific callback for redrawing a canvas at printer resolution. Treat it as a specialized author-side API, not a general user setting or cross-browser fix. See HTMLCanvasElement.
Choose the right fix for the chart
| Situation | What to try | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You need a one-off PDF and do not control the page | Use browser print preview, inspect each relevant page, then save and check the file. | Print layout may differ from the screen, and interactive details may not carry over. |
| An SVG chart is absent or incomplete | Determine whether it is inline SVG, an image, a CSS background, or dependent on scripts or external resources. | There is no universal browser setting that resolves every embedding or loading issue. |
| You control a canvas chart’s page | Prepare its print layout and draw at appropriate dimensions; consider exporting the finished drawing as an image. | Raster output is not vector, and export has memory, resolution, and origin-clean constraints. |
Troubleshoot missing or distorted charts
- The chart does not appear in preview: wait for the page and chart to finish loading, then reopen preview. If it remains absent, identify whether the graphic is SVG, canvas, or another element; a missing external asset or chart script may be involved.
- The chart is clipped: try a different orientation or adjust scale and margins in print preview, then check all preview pages. Page layout can differ from the screen.
- A canvas looks blurry or distorted: CSS resizing can scale and distort the displayed drawing. If you maintain the page, set canvas drawing dimensions appropriately rather than relying only on CSS sizing.
- An exported canvas image fails: a non-origin-clean canvas can raise
SecurityError. If export succeeds but print quality is poor, the raster image may not have enough pixels for its intended print size. - The page looks different after saving: inspect the saved PDF as well as preview. The PDF represents a print rendering, so screen-only interaction or animation is not assured.
If a chart is missing, trying the other browser’s print path can serve as a diagnostic, but the available documentation does not establish Chrome or Firefox as universally better for SVG and canvas output.

For a PDF capture by API, ScreenshotNeo accepts one GET request with a URL and can return a PDF. Its options include PDF paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation. This does not guarantee that a page’s interactive chart will print correctly, so inspect the resulting PDF when chart fidelity matters.
