To save a Chrome page with its images, let every required image load, then choose More > More tools > Save page as (or More > Cast, save, and share > Save page as in newer Chrome). Select a folder and click Save. Chrome may create an HTML file plus a resource folder; keep both together. For a genuinely portable, single-file archive, use an MHTML workflow. For a visual record, print to PDF or capture a full-page image instead.
Choose the format before you save
The best method depends on whether you need an editable offline page, one portable file, or a fixed visual copy. No format preserves every login-protected or interactive feature automatically.

Save a webpage and its images in desktop Chrome
- Open the complete page. Wait for the title, text and images you need to appear. Scroll through the page if it uses lazy loading; many sites request images only when their section approaches the viewport.
- Open the save command. Select More (the three-dot menu) > More tools > Save page as. In Chrome versions that expose the newer grouping, use More > Cast, save, and share > Save page as.
- Choose a destination. Pick a local folder with enough free space. You can use an internal drive or a USB flash drive; Chrome saves to the location you select.
- Save and wait for completion. Do not close the tab or shut down the computer while Chrome is collecting resources.
- Keep the output together. With the normal webpage option, Chrome can create an HTML file and a folder containing images, stylesheets and other assets. Move or copy the pair as one unit.
- Verify the archive. Open the saved HTML file from the destination. Check several images, including one near the bottom of the page, and test links you expect to work offline.
Why scrolling helps
Saving can only include resources that are available to the browser at capture time. Images inserted after a click, loaded by infinite scroll, protected by a consent choice, or blocked by permissions may not be present. Scroll through the entire page, expand important accordions and accept a legitimate cookie prompt before saving if the content requires that action.
Use a single MHTML file when portability matters
Chrome’s chrome.pageCapture documentation describes MHTML as encapsulating a page and all its resources, including CSS files and images, in one file. This avoids the common problem of separating an HTML file from its resource directory. MHTML is useful for handing an archive to someone else or storing it on removable media.

The exact MHTML command is exposed through Chrome’s page-capture capabilities rather than the ordinary Save Page As dialog in every installation. If your workflow or extension provides an MHTML export, capture only after the page has finished loading and then open the resulting file in a browser that supports MHTML. Treat it as an archive of the loaded state, not a promise that authenticated dashboards, live feeds or JavaScript applications will keep working offline.
Save a visual copy as PDF or an image
Print to PDF
- Open Chrome’s print dialog with More > Print (or the operating-system print shortcut).
- Set the destination to Save to PDF.
- Review layout, paper size, margins, background graphics and page range.
- Save the PDF and inspect pages containing important images.
PDF is the right choice when appearance and pagination matter more than editable HTML. It will not preserve the source site’s normal navigation or scripts.
Full-page image capture
A full-page capture extension can export PNG, JPG or PDF. PageSaver advertises PDF, image and Markdown exports, while GoFullPage advertises full-page PNG, JPG and PDF exports. Verify current availability and permissions before installing any third-party extension. Image capture records pixels, so text selection, links and interactive controls are not retained.

Make the saved copy more complete
- Resolve consent first: a consent overlay can cover content or prevent images from being requested.
- Expand hidden sections: click “load more,” galleries, accordions and tabs that contain images.
- Disable disruptive overlays temporarily: close newsletter and chat panels before saving, where the site permits it.
- Check access: private, subscription-only and expiring image URLs may fail when opened later.
- Use a clean destination: a dedicated folder makes it easier to identify the HTML file and its resource directory.
- Record the date: pages change, and a local copy reflects only the state you saved.
When ordinary saving is not enough
Dependency-heavy pages may need resource discovery beyond Chrome’s basic save command. Web Page Downloader advertises single-HTML export and smart resource detection; confirm its current program status, pricing and maintenance before relying on it. Choose such a tool when you need one HTML document rather than Chrome’s HTML-plus-folder output, but remember that no downloader can guarantee access to content that was never delivered to the browser.

The HTML opens but images are blank
Confirm that the resource folder is beside the HTML file and has not been renamed. Reopen the original page, scroll to each image, wait for loading, then save again. A network restriction, expired URL or permission can also prevent downloading.
Only images near the top were saved
The page probably lazy-loads images. Scroll from top to bottom, expand galleries and wait for thumbnails to finish, then repeat Save Page As. For an image-only record, use full-page capture after the page has rendered.

The saved page shows a login screen
Chrome cannot create offline access to content that was not available in the authenticated session. Save while authorized, and expect session-bound scripts or expiring media links to fail later.
PDF pages look clipped or backgrounds are missing
Adjust paper size, margins, orientation and background-graphics settings in the print dialog. A PDF is a visual layout, so responsive breakpoints can differ from the browser window.

Test the file in a browser with MHTML or local-file support, keep all HTML resources together, and avoid moving only the HTML file. Scripts that require a web origin, cookies or network access may not run from a local file.

- Choose HTML plus its folder for ordinary offline reading and inspection.
- Choose MHTML when one file must contain the page and downloaded resources.
- Choose PDF for a printable, stable visual document.
- Choose a PNG or JPEG for a quick visual reference or design review.
- Choose an API when captures must be automated, repeated, parameterized or generated by an AI agent.

Can I save a webpage without an internet connection?
You need internet access while Chrome downloads the page and its resources. Afterward, the local HTML, MHTML or PDF can be opened offline to the extent its content does not depend on live services.
Will saved images keep their original quality?
Chrome saves the image resource it receives; quality can already be reduced by the site’s responsive-image rules, compression or device pixel ratio.
Is MHTML safer than HTML for long-term archiving?
It is more convenient because resources are in one file, but test the archive in your target browser and retain the original URL and save date for context.
