Protect the memory module from static discharge, cushion it so it cannot move, and send it in a snug, sturdy box. An intact original RAM package can work as the inner protection if it shields the module and holds it securely; it is not a substitute for an outer shipping box.
Before packing, confirm the repair shop’s instructions
Ask the shop to confirm its recipient name, shipping address, and any preferred packing or return procedure. There is no universal repair-shop intake policy, so following the shop’s instructions can prevent avoidable delays.

Choose an inner package that protects against static
Handle the DIMM by its edges and avoid touching the gold contacts. Put it in an intact original RAM package only if that package is suitable and keeps the module protected. Otherwise, use a properly sized anti-static RAM clamshell or a static-shielding bag.
This applies general electronics packaging guidance to a RAM module: the carrier guidance cited here does not establish a standalone RAM-specific packing standard. UPS advises: “Use anti-static foam for electronic items, along with bubble sheeting around the item.” See UPS’s box-packing guidance.

- material: plastic
- Color: black, transparent
- Length: 128mm, wall thickness 0.3mm
- Features: Effectively protect DDR memory RAM modules, dust-proof and anti-static.
- Used for: Place a standard size DDR2 DDR3 DDR4 desktop DIMM module.
Cushion the package and prevent movement
Once the module is protected inside its anti-static package, cushion that package and place it in a sturdy outer box. Fill empty space so the inner package cannot rattle or shift in transit. FedEx’s computer-shipment guidance illustrates double-boxing with cushioning around an inner package; use that principle for a small RAM shipment without treating computer-box dimensions as a RAM-specific requirement. See FedEx’s packing guidance.
Avoid putting loose expanded-polystyrene (EPS) peanuts directly against the module. UPS notes that EPS can generate static and is not ideal for flat, narrow items that may shift. A properly enclosed, immobilized package is the aim.

Seal, address, and document the shipment
- Close the box and tape it securely.
- Write or print the complete repair-shop delivery address and your return address clearly on the parcel.
- Keep the shipping receipt and tracking details until the shop confirms receipt.
- Before choosing a service, review that carrier’s current declared-value and coverage terms for the specific service and route. FedEx describes its own declared-value limits and optional arrangements; those terms do not apply automatically to other carriers. Check FedEx’s declared-value information if using FedEx.
A padded envelope is not universally prohibited by the carrier information cited here, but a snug box is the prudent choice for an expensive, exposed module because it provides room for cushioning and helps prevent bending or impact damage. If you would rather not pack it yourself, FedEx says some FedEx Office locations offer packing services; confirm locally that the location accepts a standalone RAM module.
Does a RAM module trigger battery shipping rules?
A standalone RAM module does not contain a lithium battery. Battery-specific shipping rules matter if the repair shipment also includes a battery-containing device. For that different shipment, check the current carrier requirements and the rules for the destination; battery guidance from USPS and UPS is not a reason to treat loose RAM as a battery shipment.
