How to eject a PS5 disc normally
Press the console’s physical eject button. Sony’s PS5 quick-start guide states: “Press the ▲ (eject) button to eject the disc.” The eject button is on the console; the reviewed guide identifies it as the routine method.
This applies to a PS5 with a disc drive installed. Sony’s button-functions information lists the eject control for the CFI-1000 and CFI-2000 slim model groups and excludes Digital Edition models. For newer compatible models, check that the drive is installed and follow instructions for your specific model.
If a disc is stuck inside the PS5
Manual removal is an exceptional procedure that involves removing the console cover. Sony’s instructions vary by model, so use the steps and orientation shown for your exact PS5 rather than assuming every version opens the same way. Follow Sony’s model-specific manual eject instructions.

- Hold the console power button for three seconds to turn it off. Remove all cables and connected devices.
- Place the console on a soft cloth on a flat surface. Remove the base or stand as directed for your model.
- Remove the correct cover, following the orientation and steps for your console version. Some newer consoles may not have the black plastic film covering access to the screw.
- Use a #1 Phillips or cross-head screwdriver to turn the manual eject screw clockwise until the disc is almost completely visible.
- Gently remove the disc. Do not force or pull it out while it is still inside the drive.
- Replace the cover before reconnecting the console or turning it on. Do not turn on or play on the PS5 while its cover is removed.
If the disc ejects but the PS5 cannot read it
A disc that comes out normally but is not recognized has a reading problem, not a stuck-disc problem. Sony recommends cleaning dirt or fingerprints with a soft, clean cloth, then testing another supported disc, such as a game, Blu-ray Disc, or DVD. Follow the steps on Sony’s disc-reading troubleshooting page. PS5 consoles cannot play burned discs or audio CDs. If the troubleshooting steps do not resolve the issue, contact PlayStation Repairs.
