The fastest reliable route to orbit in Factorio: Space Age is a focused Nauvis build: keep automation, logistics and chemical science running, scale processing units, low-density structures and rocket fuel, research the rocket silo as soon as its science gate is met, then launch a deliberately small platform. Once the platform can collect and crush asteroids, produce ammunition, defend itself and power a thruster, automate silo requests so robots keep the route supplied.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Factorio servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
After the first launch, choose your destination by the problem you want to solve. Vulcanus accelerates heavy metallurgy, Fulgora turns scrap into advanced electromagnetic components, and Gleba opens biological production at the cost of spoilage management. Aquilo is a later milestone because its cold environment, heat infrastructure and cryogenic technology demand a dependable interplanetary supply chain.

What a “rush to space” actually means
A rush is not a promised record time. No authoritative source establishes an average rush duration, a minimum number of launches or one universally best planet order. Your result depends on the size of your Nauvis factory, how aggressively you expand, and whether you value metals, recycling or biology first.
For a practical rush, define success as reaching orbit with a stable supply chain rather than hand-crafting a single launch. That means three things:

Space Age is a large expansion: the 2024 Official Factorio Wiki lists 29 achievements, 30 intermediate products, 22 buildings, five science packs, five weapons, four planets and two enemy types. You do not need to build every branch before leaving Nauvis; you need the branches that increase science and rocket-input throughput.
Build Nauvis around the silo sciences
Keep automation, logistics and chemical science running
The current Official Factorio Wiki lists the rocket-silo research gate as 1,000 automation science packs, 1,000 logistics science packs and 1,000 chemical science packs. Treat those as a production contract, not a one-time shopping list. Set up dedicated assemblers, belt or bot delivery and enough intermediate production that all three lines continue while you expand.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match| Science required for the silo | Rush-building implication |
|---|---|
| 1,000 automation science packs | Maintain iron, copper, gears, belts and inserters so the line never waits for basic parts. |
| 1,000 logistics science packs | Reserve reliable production for transport components and the circuits that support them. |
| 1,000 chemical science packs | Scale oil processing, sulfur-related intermediates, plastic and advanced circuits before the final research push. |
Use buffers between science assemblers and the labs, but do not let a large buffer hide a starving input. A short belt of finished packs is useful; a warehouse full of one science while another line is idle is not. Balance the three streams by watching which ingredient backs up and which assembler is repeatedly waiting.
Expand the intermediate products that also feed rockets
Your pre-orbit base must support more than science. Increase copper and iron smelting, oil processing, circuits, steel and concrete before the silo is researched. Those chains are the foundation for both the science packs and the rocket components that follow.
Low-density structures, processing units and rocket fuel are the critical rocket-input chains. Give each its own production area with direct access to the required fluids and materials. If a component line shares a belt with a science ingredient, separate the lanes or provide a priority split; otherwise a temporary science surge can stop rocket production at the worst time.
Research the silo immediately when the gate is complete
When the three science totals are available, start the silo research rather than detouring into upgrades that do not increase throughput, power or survival. Optional research is worthwhile only when it removes a current bottleneck: faster mining, better power, stronger defenses, or productivity that directly increases the output of your rocket-input factories.

Keep the labs supplied during this research. If the labs consume the last of a science pack and stall, the delay is often longer than the time saved by the detour you skipped.
Understand the rocket-silo production math
One rocket has a fixed Space Age input pattern
In Space Age, each rocket uses 50 rocket parts. Every part consumes one processing unit, one low-density structure and one rocket fuel, so a complete rocket requires the same count of each of those three inputs. The exact relationship is useful because it lets you size production around a single launch instead of guessing at mixed ingredients.
| Input | Consumption per rocket | How to protect the line |
|---|---|---|
| Processing units | 50 | Keep electronic-circuit and advanced-circuit production ahead of demand; isolate the unit assemblers from science interruptions. |
| Low-density structures | 50 | Maintain uninterrupted copper, steel and plastic supply and reserve a dedicated output buffer. |
| Rocket fuel | 50 | Provide dependable oil and fluid handling, with storage sized to absorb production swings. |
The silo is an especially strong target for productivity modules, according to the Official Factorio Wiki. Apply productivity where your power budget and module supply allow it, then compensate for the increased machine speed or power draw with additional generation and beacons only if they do not delay the launch.
Build a launch site that robots can service
Place the silo beside a logistic network and near the output buffers for all three inputs. Leave room for roboports, charging coverage, provider chests and requester chests. A compact site shortens robot flight paths, but do not pack it so tightly that a later platform-request change requires tearing out the science bus.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesConnect the silo to the same electrical grid as the assemblers and roboports. Before you begin the first launch, verify that robots can physically reach every provider and that charging capacity survives a sustained delivery wave. A rocket that is technically complete but waiting for a disconnected chest is a layout problem, not a science problem.
Launch the first space platform with the smallest useful footprint
Use the starter pack as the first payload
The silo can create a new platform when its payload is exactly one space-platform starter pack. Make that the first launch objective. Do not fill the rocket with miscellaneous materials simply because storage is available; the starter pack is the item that establishes the orbital factory and transport route.
Install only the systems needed to survive and move
Start with a hub and a connected foundation. The foundation must form a usable, contiguous footprint for the machines that follow. Add the following systems in this order:
- Hub and foundation: lay a compact connected area with clear expansion edges.
- Asteroid collectors: provide the platform with incoming material.
- Asteroid crushers: turn collected asteroids into usable resources for platform operations.
- Ammunition production: keep defensive weapons supplied without manual loading.
- Defenses: place weapons where their coverage protects collectors, crushers and the hub.
- Thruster: add propulsion only after the platform has the collection, crushing and defensive loop needed for a trip.
Storage and extra production can wait until requests prove they are needed. Every additional machine increases power, ammunition or material demand, and a rush platform should first be dependable rather than large.

Design around requests, not decoration
Space platforms are flying factories and transport hubs; the official Space Age description calls them “flying factories that act as the means of transportation between planets.” Give the hub requests for the items the platform actually consumes, then observe which request fails first. Expand storage, crushing or ammunition only in response to that evidence.
Automate the route from Nauvis to orbit
Let the silo request and load rocket inputs
Enable silo logistic requests so the logistic network can fill rockets automatically. Robots then fetch processing units, low-density structures and rocket fuel from provider storage, deliver them to the silo and allow the launch condition to be met without hand-carrying every batch.
Configure provider and requester chests deliberately. A provider chest that is also feeding a critical science line can starve the rocket, while a requester chest with no network coverage simply sits empty. Keep a visible buffer for each input and check that the robot network has charging capacity at peak demand.
Use platform requests to trigger launches
Set requests in the platform hub for the supplies, ammunition or components the platform needs. Those requests can trigger automatic launches from the silo when the requested payload is available. This turns a one-off expedition into a repeatable logistics route: the platform asks, the Nauvis network fills the silo, and the silo launches when the payload condition is satisfied.
Manual loading supports mixed payloads, but it is not automated. Use it for an experiment or an emergency shipment, not as the foundation of a sustained route. If the platform repeatedly waits for a hand-loaded item, replace that workflow with a hub request and a matching silo logistic request.
Deliver cargo to a predictable surface location
Platform-to-surface deliveries use cargo pods. A cargo landing pad provides a predictable destination instead of relying on a random landing near spawn. Place the pad inside your receiving logistic network and connect it to storage or requester chests so arriving materials enter the factory automatically.
Choose the first planet by payoff and operational pressure
| Planet | Main payoff | Primary pressure | Prioritize it when… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vulcanus | Lava-based iron and copper production plus tungsten metallurgy | Volcanic terrain and local defense | You want to accelerate heavy industry and can defend an exposed production site. |
| Fulgora | Scrap recycling, lightning power and holmium technology | Lightning storms and sparse resources | You prefer converting ruins and scrap into advanced components. |
| Gleba | Agriculture and biochemical production | Spoilage and biological threats | You are ready to design around perishable inputs and want biological science or later biological production. |
| Aquilo | Cryogenic and fusion technology | Extreme cold, heat requirements and weak solar support | You already have a dependable interplanetary supply chain and are pursuing the later platform route. |
Vulcanus: the heavy-industry choice
Choose Vulcanus when your priority is metal throughput. Its lava-based iron and copper route and tungsten metallurgy can remove pressure from the conventional Nauvis smelting chain. The trade-off is operational: volcanic terrain constrains layouts, and local defense must be part of the initial base rather than an afterthought.
Arrive with enough platform ammunition, a working thruster and a plan for importing anything your first Vulcanus build cannot produce immediately. The planet is attractive for a metal-first route, but only if your platform can keep making trips while the local factory comes online.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fulgora: the recycling and electromagnetic choice
Fulgora is the choice for players who want to turn scrap into advanced components. Scrap recycling, lightning power and holmium technology offer a different resource loop from conventional mining, but storms and sparse resources make the first layout less forgiving.
Build protected collection and storage areas before scaling electromagnetic production. Requests should reflect the recycling loop: if a component depends on a material that is not yet being recovered consistently, expand sorting and processing before adding more final assemblers.
Gleba: the biological choice
Gleba opens agriculture and biochemical production, with spoilage as the defining constraint. Perishable materials change the meaning of “buffer”: storing too much can be as harmful as storing too little. Keep biological chains moving, route outputs directly to the next consumer and monitor the time-sensitive parts of the process.
Biological threats also change the defense calculation. A compact, well-protected production block is easier to keep supplied than a sprawling first settlement. Choose Gleba when you are prepared to tune production rates and logistics around freshness rather than simply adding larger warehouses.

Aquilo: postpone the cryogenic milestone
Aquilo is not the sensible first destination for a rush. Its extreme cold, heat requirements, low solar support and cryogenic technology make infrastructure reliability more important than raw speed. The official description emphasizes heat pipes, ice platforms, cryogenic technology and fusion power; arrive only when your interplanetary supply chain can support those systems.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use a decision framework instead of a fixed planet order
Pick the first inner planet with three questions:
- Which bottleneck is limiting your current factory? If metals are the problem, evaluate Vulcanus. If advanced components are the problem, evaluate Fulgora. If you want new biological chains, evaluate Gleba.
- Which pressure can you manage immediately? Volcanic terrain, lightning and sparse resources, and spoilage each demand a different defensive and logistical response.
- Can your platform make repeat trips? A planet is a poor first choice if the initial landing consumes all ammunition, storage or propulsion capacity and leaves no reliable return route.
This framework produces different valid routes. A metal-first player may choose Vulcanus, a recycling-focused player may choose Fulgora, and a biology-focused player may choose Gleba. None is established as universally optimal; the correct choice is the one that improves the limiting production problem without creating a larger logistics crisis.

Common rush failures and precise fixes
The science total rises unevenly
Symptom: one science pack reaches the silo threshold while another line repeatedly stalls.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Fix: trace the idle assembler to its first missing input, then expand that intermediate rather than adding more labs. Keep all three science lines operating during silo research so the final threshold is reached together.
The silo is researched but no rocket appears
Symptom: the silo is built, but its input slots remain empty.
Fix: confirm that processing units, low-density structures and rocket fuel have separate production and storage, that provider chests are inside the robot network, and that roboports cover the complete path. Check power and charging before expanding the factory.
Rocket production consumes science inputs
Symptom: rocket components arrive only when science production pauses.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Fix: separate the belts, chests or bot requests for science and rocket materials. Add buffers sized for one launch and prioritize the rocket-input assemblers only after the science lines have stable supply.
The first platform is stranded or underpowered
Symptom: the platform launches but cannot maintain collection, defense or propulsion.
Fix: reduce the footprint to the hub, connected foundation, collectors, crushers, ammunition, defenses and thruster. Remove optional production, then restore it only when the basic loop remains supplied during travel.
Platform requests never trigger a launch
Symptom: the hub shows a request, but the silo does nothing.
Fix: verify that the silo’s logistic requests are enabled, every requested item exists in the Nauvis network, and the payload condition is achievable. A manually loaded mixed payload will not create the same automated behavior as a configured request.
Surface deliveries land unpredictably
Symptom: cargo arrives near spawn instead of at the factory.
Fix: place and connect a cargo landing pad, then route its output into storage or requester chests. The pad is the predictable receiving point for cargo-pod deliveries.
A new planet consumes all attention
Symptom: the home factory stops sending rockets while the outpost is still being built.

Launch-ready checklist
- Automation, logistics and chemical science are running continuously.
- The silo science gate is complete and the silo research has been started immediately.
- Processing units, low-density structures and rocket fuel have dedicated production, buffers and robot access.
- The silo is inside a powered logistic network with enough roboport charging capacity.
- The first payload is exactly one space-platform starter pack.
- The platform has a hub, connected foundation, asteroid collectors, crushers, ammunition production, defenses and a thruster.
- Hub requests are configured for the supplies the platform actually consumes.
- Silo logistic requests are enabled for automatic filling and launch.
- A cargo landing pad is connected on the receiving surface.
- The first planet is selected for a specific payoff, with its terrain, weather, spoilage or cold-infrastructure pressure accounted for.
Once those checks pass, the rush is no longer a gamble on one launch. It is a compact Nauvis supply chain feeding a survivable orbital factory, with the next planet chosen to remove your biggest production constraint.
