Yes: one OBS PC can send two simultaneous streams to separate YouTube live events using the Multiple RTMP Outputs plugin. Each event needs its own server URL and stream key, and your PC and internet connection must handle the combined encoding and upload load. YouTube confirms simultaneous streams are possible but does not publish a numeric channel limit in its guidance, so check your channel and test the complete setup before relying on it unattended.
What you need before setting up two streams
- An OBS PC with enough processing capacity for the chosen encoding setup.
- Two YouTube live events, each with its own destination URL and stream key.
- The OBS Multiple RTMP Outputs plugin. Its OBS forum listing specifies 64-bit Windows and Linux support and a minimum OBS Studio version of 30.2.0. The listing’s update metadata is dated 2020-05-17, so verify current compatibility and release notes for your OBS build before a long-running broadcast. Check the plugin listing.
- Enough stable upload bandwidth for both outputs plus headroom.
YouTube says first-time live streaming activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable live streaming before the day you plan to start. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover enabling live streaming and entering encoder details.

Set up two YouTube events in OBS
- Enable live streaming on the channel. Confirm that YouTube Live is available for the account. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave this until just before the broadcast.
- Create or schedule both events. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, prepare a separate live event for each intended stream. Retrieve the server URL and stream key for each event; do not assume one event’s key or destination can be reused for the other. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain where to enter these details.
- Protect the stream keys. Treat each key as a password. Do not publish or share it. If a key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room before streaming again. See YouTube’s stream key guidance.
- Install the plugin and confirm compatibility. Use the Multiple RTMP Outputs plugin listing to check its current release notes and compatibility with your operating system and OBS version. The forum resource metadata lists a minimum OBS Studio version of 30.2.0 and 64-bit Windows and Linux support, but the listing’s update metadata is old, so do not treat those details as confirmation that every current build works.
- Add two outputs. In OBS, open the Multiple RTMP Outputs controls, add one destination for each YouTube event, and enter that event’s server URL and stream key. Check each pair carefully; a mismatched key or URL can send an output to the wrong event or prevent it from connecting.
- Choose how to encode each output. The plugin can share OBS’s main output encoder or use standalone encoders. Sharing can reduce CPU use, while standalone encoders allow independent output settings but require more encoding capacity. There is no universal performance result for a particular PC: test the actual scenes, resolution, frame rate, and settings you will use.
- Set an appropriate quality and bitrate. Choose a quality your connection can sustain reliably. YouTube advises allowing upload headroom and gives this recommendation: “That’s primary + backup + 20% is recommended.” For two independent outputs, calculate the combined outgoing bitrate rather than sizing the connection for just one stream, then allow extra capacity for normal network variation. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance explains its bitrate and quality recommendations.
- Prefer RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP over TLS/SSL. Use the RTMPS server URL offered for each event when available. Details are in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and encoder setup instructions.
- Start both outputs and verify each event. Start the outputs, then check that each Live Control Room receives a preview and that each stream appears on its intended watch page. Monitor stream health and confirm audio and video are present on both events before leaving the setup unattended.
Choose shared or separate encoders
| Option | What changes | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Share OBS’s main encoder | The plugin can reuse the main output encoder, which can save CPU. The outputs share the encoder configuration. | Useful when both destinations can use the same encoding settings and PC encoding capacity is a concern. |
| Use standalone encoders | Each output can have independent encoding settings, at the cost of additional encoding work. | Consider when the two outputs need different settings and the PC can sustain the added load. No benchmark establishes what a particular PC can handle. |
The plugin documents both modes, but that does not establish performance or stability for every computer, OBS build, or stream duration. Run a sustained test with the intended scenes, audio, and destinations before planning an unattended broadcast.

Bandwidth and connection planning
Two outputs increase the outgoing network demand when each is sent independently. Add their configured bitrates to estimate the stream traffic, then retain headroom for variation in the connection. YouTube’s published recommendation refers to primary bitrate, backup bitrate, and 20% headroom; for two independent outputs, do not mistake that wording for a guarantee that a connection sized for one output will suffice. Test with the actual connection and watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators during the trial.

YouTube recommends testing with movement and audio, checking the Live Control Room preview, and monitoring stream health. A static test image or a brief connection check may not expose problems that appear with motion, sound, or a longer run. Follow YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and stream health troubleshooting.
What to verify before leaving the streams unattended
- Both events are active and receiving the intended video and audio.
- Each output is connected to the correct event and appears on the correct watch page.
- Neither the PC nor OBS shows sustained encoding or connection problems during a test using the intended scene and settings.
- The upload connection can maintain both outputs with headroom under the conditions in which you plan to stream.
- You have confirmed current plugin compatibility with your OBS build and operating system.
The setup is a documented way to send multiple RTMP outputs, not a guarantee of continuous uptime. The cited guidance does not establish that a particular PC-and-plugin configuration has been tested for a specific duration.

Limits and trade-offs to understand
YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limit is not stated numerically
YouTube says local hardware or software encoders can support multiple simultaneous streams and that streams can run at once “up to a limit,” but its guidance does not give the numeric maximum. Do not plan around an assumed channel cap; verify what your channel permits. See YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms.

One PC means one local point of failure
Both outputs depend on the PC, OBS, plugin, power, and internet connection. A computer shutdown or local network interruption can affect both streams. This is a practical consequence of the local setup, not a claim that the plugin provides a particular recovery or uptime guarantee.

Local control versus a cloud relay
YouTube describes local encoding as offering control and potentially the highest quality when the computer is powerful. It describes a cloud relay as a simpler route that is lighter on the PC, especially when sending to more than two destinations. The better choice depends on whether you want to manage encoding and reliability locally or move the continuous playback workload off the home computer.
Troubleshooting two OBS outputs
| Symptom | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| One event does not receive a preview | That output’s server URL, stream key, event status, and plugin destination configuration. | Compare the output details with the matching event in Live Control Room. Correct the URL or key and restart that output. If the key may have been exposed, reset it. |
| Both streams connect but video or audio is poor | Stream-health warnings, actual outgoing bitrate, and whether the chosen quality is reliable on the available upload connection. | Test with motion and audio, reduce the configured quality or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, and leave upload headroom. Review YouTube’s stream health troubleshooting. |
| OBS or the PC struggles when the second output starts | Whether the outputs use standalone encoders and whether the PC can sustain the combined encoding work. | If the outputs can use identical settings, try the plugin’s shared main encoder option. If independent settings are necessary, lower the workload or use hardware with enough capacity; no universal hardware threshold is established here. |
| The plugin does not work with the installed OBS build | Current plugin release notes, operating system support, and OBS version. | Recheck the plugin listing for current compatibility before relying on it. Its stated minimum OBS version and platform metadata are not a guarantee for every current build. |
| A stream stops during a longer test | Connection stability, OBS status, and each event’s stream-health information. | Identify whether the failure is local encoding, network connectivity, or a specific destination, then repeat a sustained test after changing one factor at a time. The available guidance does not establish a guaranteed unattended duration for this setup. |
