You can run Percy visual tests from GitLab CI by adding Percy to the application’s existing test workflow, running that workflow in a GitLab job, and reviewing the resulting snapshots in Percy. Percy’s integration information describes support for CI/CD workflows, and its changelog announced GitLab.com and GitLab CI support on September 12, 2018. The India location does not, on its own, change this technical workflow; the available information does not establish India-specific availability, hosting, or billing terms.
How Percy and GitLab CI fit together
GitLab CI runs jobs defined for your repository’s pipeline. Percy adds visual snapshots and review to an application’s test workflow. In practice, the job must run the application and its existing tests in a way Percy’s current integration for that test framework supports. Percy says its integrations are designed to fit existing development workflows, including complex suites distributed across processes or machines (Percy integrations).

Percy’s changelog records GitLab.com and GitLab CI support in an announcement dated September 12, 2018 (GitLab CI support announcement). That establishes that support was announced; it does not verify the current command, SDK setup, or GitLab YAML for your particular framework. Percy is part of BrowserStack (Percy).
Set up the workflow without guessing the current syntax
- Choose the Percy project. Create or select the project that should receive snapshots, then follow the current Percy project connection instructions.
- Use the integration for your test framework. Identify the framework already used by the application and consult Percy’s current integration guide for its SDK, command, and required configuration. Do not copy a command intended for a different framework.
- Store credentials as CI variables. Add the credential specified by Percy’s current instructions to the GitLab project or group CI/CD variables. Apply masking and protection settings appropriate to your pipeline and branches, following current GitLab and Percy guidance. The exact variable name and protection behavior are not established here, so confirm them in the live instructions rather than assuming a name.
- Make the app available to the tests. Ensure the GitLab job builds and starts the application, or otherwise makes the expected test URL reachable before the visual tests run. The setup depends on whether your suite uses a local server, a deployed preview, or another environment.
- Run the normal test workflow in the job. Add the framework-specific Percy invocation at the point required by that integration. Keep it aligned with the project’s existing install, build, and test steps.
- Review the pipeline and Percy results. Run the pipeline, check that the job completed and snapshots were sent to the intended Percy project, then review visual changes and handle intentional updates through your team’s usual code-review process.
There is no safe universal .gitlab-ci.yml block to copy from the available current details: the right job command, setup, and credential variable depend on the chosen framework and Percy’s current integration instructions. Confirm those specifics before committing pipeline YAML.

Choose a framework integration that fits the repository
If your team has more than one test framework, compare the options against the work your pipeline already does. Check whether Percy documents an integration for that framework, whether its regular test command runs cleanly in GitLab CI, whether the job can make the app available at the required URL, and whether the tests cover the pages and states you need to review. The available information does not establish a framework preference for Indian teams.
Indian team considerations
The sources cited here do not establish region-specific setup steps, service availability, data hosting, or pricing for India. Do not infer those details from the fact that the pipeline runs in GitLab CI. If location-specific compliance, data residency, or billing is a requirement, confirm it directly in current Percy and BrowserStack terms before adoption.

For direct website captures rather than Percy’s framework-driven visual test workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie/consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before capture; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. AI agents can use its MCP server tools to take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month without a card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. This is an alternative capture workflow, not a replacement for Percy’s integration with your test suite.
