You do not need a physical PDP-1 or PiDP-1 replica for this browser-based route.
Load the game in JS-PDP-1
- Open Michael Gardi’s Lunar Lander for the PDP-1 project page and locate
lunar_lander.rimin its Files section. Download the file. - Open the JS-PDP-1 emulator and use its file chooser to select the downloaded RIM file.
- Click READ IN. The project author says this loads and starts the program.
- When the NEW GAME screen appears, press a control key to begin.
Controls and landing objective

Try to land at the six sites while conserving fuel. The project author describes a 1,000-point bonus for landing at all six. The author’s stated “Good Landing” criterion is H<50,V<100; the notation is given without units, so it should not be interpreted as a specific speed or distance measure.

Which Lunar Lander is this?
This is Michael Gardi’s graphical PDP-1 project, not the earlier text-based Lunar Landing Game associated with the PDP-8. The title can refer to multiple historical and later games, so the PDP-1 emulator instructions here apply specifically to Gardi’s lunar_lander.rim.

Do you need PDP-1 hardware?
No. The documented way to play this version is with the browser-based JS-PDP-1 emulator and the RIM file. A PiDP-1 replica is a separate hardware-oriented option, not a requirement for these steps. Current file and emulator availability, as well as interface changes, are not established here; if the file or controls differ from those described, check the project’s current instructions.
