Use your platform’s built-in poll when it is available: Twitch polls are created from the Creator Dashboard (and require a monetized channel), while YouTube polls are created in live chat. TikTok’s official LIVE guidance supports asking viewers questions but does not document a native poll workflow, so check your current interface before promising one.
Choose the poll method for your platform

Run a poll on Twitch
Create and start the poll
- Open your Twitch Creator Dashboard. If you have not created a poll before, select Create a New Poll. For a channel with an existing poll, choose New Poll.
- In the newer Creator Dashboard, add the Manage your poll quick action under Grow Your Community, then select Manage Poll and New Poll.
- Enter the question as the title and add two to five choices. Keep the title within 60 characters and each choice within 25 characters.
- Set the duration before starting. If you enable Channel Points for extra votes, tell viewers that points spent on poll votes are non-refundable.
- Select Start Poll. Watch the poll panel for results; you can end the poll early there.
Use Twitch chat commands or an overlay
A moderator or editor can create and manage a poll with /poll, then end or delete it with /endpoll or /deletepoll. Twitch’s help page says the completed poll breakdown shows final results and the number of voters.

To put the poll on-screen, add a browser source to the active scene and use Twitch’s documented URL pattern: https://www.twitch.tv/popout/yourusername/poll. Replace yourusername with your channel username.

Run a poll on YouTube
Create and end a live chat poll
- While streaming live or hosting a Premiere, open the live chat window.
- At the bottom of chat, click Create a poll, then enter the question and two to four answer options.
- When you are ready to close voting, use End poll in the banner at the top of chat. Review the results there.
YouTube says viewers cannot change a vote after submitting it. Polls are visible live but do not appear in live chat replays, so mention that during the stream if replay viewers may expect to find the poll later. A poll can remain open for up to 24 hours; choose a shorter duration if that fits the segment.

Mobile live poll stickers
YouTube also documents live poll stickers for mobile streaming. This is a distinct path from creating a poll in the live chat window; use the interface that matches how you are broadcasting. See YouTube’s poll instructions for the current workflow.
Handle polls on TikTok LIVE
TikTok’s official LIVE guidance encourages creators to ask viewers about their day, opinions, or the game being played, and to acknowledge people who participate. It does not establish a native poll control, eligibility rules, or creation steps. Check the LIVE interface on your account before describing a TikTok poll as a built-in feature. If no poll control is available, ask a clear question and explain how to respond in chat—for example, “Type A for the first option or B for the second.”

Write a poll viewers can answer
- Ask one specific question. Tie it to a decision or opinion that matters to the broadcast, such as “Which topic should we cover next?” or “Which route should I take?”
- Keep choices brief and distinct. Twitch’s character limits make concise labels essential; YouTube allows two to four options. Avoid choices that overlap or leave viewers unsure where their answer belongs.
- Explain the consequence. Tell viewers what their choice will affect, how long voting will stay open, and whether any extra-vote mechanism is enabled.
- Introduce, close, and acknowledge. Say the question aloud, give viewers time to notice it, then close the poll and read the result. Respond to the outcome or thank people for taking part.
- Choose a duration for the segment. The platforms do not prescribe one ideal length for every poll; set it to fit the pace of the broadcast.

Quick troubleshooting
- Twitch poll controls are missing: Twitch says poll creation is exclusive to monetized streamers. Check channel eligibility, then open the Creator Dashboard and add the poll quick action if needed.
- A Twitch poll will not start: Check that the title and choices fit the character limits, that you selected a duration, and that another poll is not already active.
- Viewers cannot find a YouTube poll later: Live polls do not appear in chat replays. Share the outcome aloud during the stream rather than expecting replay viewers to see the poll.
- You cannot find a TikTok poll button: The cited official guidance does not document native poll creation. Verify the current account interface; otherwise use an explicit chat-response method.
