How to Run a 24/7 YouTube Study Music Stream from India with OBS

A practical guide to running an always-on YouTube study-music stream from India with OBS, including setup, bandwidth, music rights, testing and long-stream limits.

You can run a continuous YouTube study-music stream from India with OBS by sending an authorized music-and-visual scene from a computer to a YouTube encoder stream. The computer, power, and internet connection must remain available for the broadcast to continue; OBS does not make a local setup cloud-hosted. Before going live, enable YouTube Live, secure worldwide live-stream rights for every track, and test sustained upload capacity and recovery.

What you need before starting

  • A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the requirements.
  • Music you are authorized to broadcast live worldwide, plus any required permission for archives or other uses you intend to make of the stream.
  • A computer that can run OBS continuously, a reliable power source, and a stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity.
  • A visual for the stream, such as a still image or a looped animation. Keep the visual and audio sources within the rights you hold.

The basic workflow applies in India, but the available upload speed and power reliability depend on your own location and provider. Measure your connection rather than assuming a particular Indian ISP or speed will be suitable.

Check music rights before building the stream

YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights to exploit Live Content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. A subscription to a music service or permission to listen to a track does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it live.

YouTube may detect third-party material during a live broadcast. A matched stream can be replaced with a placeholder and then interrupted or terminated. Even if you have a license, the rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel so its Content ID system recognizes the permission. Confirm that your agreement covers YouTube live broadcasts, your territory, any replay archive, and allowlisting where applicable. YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams describes how matches can affect a broadcast.

Do not treat YouTube Creator Music as clearance for this use: YouTube’s guidance says tracks licensed or shared under the described Creator Music program cannot be used in a live stream. Check Creator Music usage details and your own license terms before selecting music.

Plan upload speed for a continuous broadcast

The relevant connection speed is upload, not download. YouTube says the total stream bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommends 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the aggregate stream bitrate. OBS suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting bitrate when troubleshooting connection problems. These are planning guides, not guarantees for a particular connection.

  • Compatibility: Pro-10 wired headphones work exclusively in wired mode and are compatible with a wide range of devices, including smartphones, laptops, tablets, desktop computers, audio interfaces, DJ mixers, amplifiers, and any device that features either a 3.5mm or 6.35mm audio jack.
  • Share Audio Port: With a shared audio port, easily connect another pair to share music or videos—no splitters or special cables needed.

Measure sustained upload under realistic conditions, preferably while other household or office devices are using the connection as they normally would. If you use multiple audio or video outputs, account for their aggregate bitrate. Choose settings that leave headroom for fluctuations; a connection that only just matches the encoder bitrate is a poor basis for an unattended 24/7 stream. YouTube’s live-streaming tips and OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide provide the respective guidance.

For bitrate, resolution, and frame rate, use YouTube’s current recommendations for the selected format and choose a setting your computer can encode and your measured upload can sustain. No single bitrate or resolution is safe to prescribe for every Indian connection. If the stream drops frames or buffers, lower the output load and retest rather than increasing bitrate.

Set up YouTube Studio and OBS

  1. Enable Live and verify eligibility. In YouTube, complete channel verification and enable live streaming. If this is your first activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting access.
  2. Create or schedule an encoder stream. Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream using an encoder workflow. Set its title, description, visibility, and schedule as needed. In stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. The key acts like a password that lets an encoder send video to your channel; keep it private and reset it if exposed. See YouTube’s stream settings guidance.
  3. Prepare OBS. Install and open OBS Studio, then use Tools → Auto-Configuration Wizard to get an initial configuration. Add a still image or looped visual source and the audio source for the music you are authorized to use. Check the Audio Mixer meters while audio plays: they should move, without remaining silent or peaking into distortion.
  4. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings → Stream and select YouTube as the service if available. Sign in or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key from Studio, following the connection option shown in your OBS version. Do not share the key or include it in a public screenshot.
  5. Configure output conservatively. In OBS, set the video resolution and frame rate appropriate to your visual, computer, and available upload; set encoder bitrate within your measured capacity with the headroom described above. Use YouTube’s current recommended encoder settings as the reference, and verify keyframe and codec requirements there rather than relying on a preset copied from a different stream type. YouTube’s streaming tips covers encoder preparation and monitoring.
  6. Preview and test before public launch. Start the encoder feed and check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream health before making the event public. Confirm that the watch page is accessible to the intended audience, the visual and sound are correct, and the connection stays stable. OBS strongly encourages running a test for a few minutes instead of jumping straight into a first stream; for a continuous broadcast, test longer under realistic network and computer load.

OBS is the encoder, not the music-rights manager or a guarantee of continuous service. For longer operation, consider a tested backup encoder, dependable power, and a plan for monitoring and restarting the stream if the computer, network, or YouTube connection fails. These are operational precautions, not mandatory YouTube features or a promise of uninterrupted service. YouTube recommends testing failover, checking access on devices, and monitoring audio and video quality.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit

YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A 24/7 stream exceeds that threshold, so do not promise viewers that the entire day will be available as one archive. If replay access matters, plan a separate recording or schedule shorter broadcasts, and test how your chosen workflow handles the end of a session. Review YouTube’s encoder-stream instructions before deciding how to manage long-running sessions.

Monetization is conditional

Depending on channel eligibility, YouTube may offer live ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and memberships. Ad delivery is not guaranteed, and eligibility and availability are controlled by YouTube. Do not build a 24/7 operating budget on assumed ad impressions or revenue. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance.

Troubleshooting a 24/7 OBS stream

  • You cannot start a live stream: Check that the channel is verified, has no live-stream restriction in the last 90 days, and has completed Live activation. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
  • YouTube Studio does not receive the feed: Confirm OBS is using the correct service or server URL and the current stream key. Check for accidental spaces or an outdated key; reset a key that may have been exposed.
  • The stream buffers or disconnects: Check sustained upload while other devices are active, reduce bitrate or output resolution if necessary, and preserve bandwidth headroom. Test Ethernet and network equipment if available, then run a fresh test. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide provides further diagnostic steps.
  • The audio meter is silent or the audience hears no music: Confirm the correct audio source is active in OBS, inspect the Audio Mixer meters, and check the source’s routing and output volume. Verify audio in YouTube’s preview before going public.
  • The live stream is interrupted for a music match: Stop using the matched track until you resolve the rights issue. Confirm that the license explicitly allows YouTube live use and that any necessary channel allowlisting has been completed with the rightsholder.
  • The stream ends while unattended: Check computer sleep settings, power, network interruptions, and OBS reconnect behavior. A local OBS stream requires the computer and connection to remain available; a restart and monitoring plan can reduce recovery time but cannot guarantee uptime.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a computer and home connection to carry the broadcast continuously, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded content from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed or stream to other platforms.
