To run a temple channel on YouTube Live around the clock, first decide whether you need a live camera feed or a scheduled loop of recorded programming. For a live camera, connect the camera and audio system to an encoder, configure the encoder with the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio, and keep the camera, encoder, network and power available. Test the complete setup before leaving it unattended. YouTube’s guidance helps with setup and failover testing, but it does not guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Decide what “24/7” means for the temple
A continuous channel can show a live view from a camera, or it can broadcast previously recorded videos as a live stream. They are not the same: a loop of recorded aarti, bhajans or other programming is not a live darshan feed. Choose the format before buying or configuring equipment because it changes the signal path and what must stay running.

Live camera feed
For a live view of a sanctum, prayer hall, procession or other activity, a camera and audio source must be operating and sending a signal to an encoder. The encoder sends that signal to YouTube. Confirm camera placement and audio capture with temple administration, and consider whether worshippers or visitors may be identifiable.
Recorded programming
A playlist of recordings can be scheduled or looped as a live broadcast, but the channel still needs a service or encoder that sends the video to YouTube. Before using ceremony recordings, check rights to the actual recording and broadcast, and get any necessary permissions for people, site footage and music. Describe the stream accurately so viewers do not mistake recorded material for a live camera feed.

Check channel eligibility before planning the launch
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned start rather than on launch day. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder and console streaming; an encoder is the relevant workflow when the temple is using external camera or audio equipment.
Use an unlisted test stream if you want to check the setup before making it public. Confirm that the intended channel account has access to YouTube Studio and that the people responsible for operating the stream can reach the Live Control Room.
Set up the encoder-to-YouTube signal path
The basic path is camera and audio source → software or hardware encoder → secure YouTube ingest → YouTube Live. A hardware encoder may suit a fixed installation; a software encoder on a computer is another option. Match the encoder’s inputs to the camera and audio equipment already in use. YouTube documents encoder workflows and hardware options but does not endorse a particular model.

- Create or select the stream in YouTube Studio. Open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream for the intended broadcast. Check the title, visibility and any schedule details before going live.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s stream password/address. Treat it as a credential: share it only with trusted operators and store it securely.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, its secure extension of RTMP, for ingest. Select the codec and bitrate appropriate to the chosen quality and the upload connection you have tested.
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds. YouTube recommends a two-second interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Use the encoder’s corresponding setting rather than assuming its default is suitable.
- Start the encoder and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that video and sound arrive as expected before starting the public broadcast. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder configuration.
YouTube transcodes live streams for playback formats. This does not remove the need to choose an encoder output the temple’s uplink can sustain.
Size and test the internet connection
Use measured upload capacity, not download speed, to judge whether the connection can carry the stream. YouTube says the total streaming bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving about 20% headroom. Other devices sharing the connection can reduce the bandwidth available to the encoder.
- Choose a resolution and bitrate that the measured upload connection can sustain consistently; do not set the encoder to its maximum simply because the camera supports it.
- Test the actual connection and full streaming setup at the intended location. A speed result from another room, network or time of day does not establish how the installed encoder will perform.
- Include representative motion, lighting and sound in the test. A static test image will not reveal every problem with moving worshippers, changing light or loud music.
- Inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm that the stream appears on the channel and watch pages and plays on a phone as well as the operator’s monitor.
- Listen for clipping, excessive room noise, hum, echo and audio/video sync problems. Check the picture for focus, exposure, framing and unwanted views.
YouTube’s encoder tips recommend setting up encoders at least two hours before an event and starting them at least 15 minutes before a scheduled event. For an always-on channel, use those timings as a minimum planning reference for a controlled launch and keep an operator available to observe the initial run.

For planning upload duration, use the upload-time calculator; for usage and rights checks, see the copyright safety checklist.
Clear music, video and site permissions before going live
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If a match is detected, YouTube may show a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike may also terminate a stream.
Use only material the channel has the necessary rights to broadcast. This includes the actual audio and video being sent live, not just permission to perform or record it. Recorded bhajans, commercial devotional tracks, television feeds and video from another temple or broadcaster can all create rights issues. A song being devotional or publicly audible at the site does not by itself establish that the channel may transmit it.

If a rights holder has licensed third-party material for the stream, YouTube says to ask the owner to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist. A licence alone may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Check this before the broadcast with the relevant owner or rights administrator.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require the provider to have the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. The rules and permissions for a particular Indian temple, camera location, procession, recording or repertoire depend on the situation. Verify them with temple administration, rights holders and relevant local authorities; YouTube’s platform setup guidance does not decide which India- or site-specific permissions apply.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsPlan session length, replays and restart behavior
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume from that statement that one stream running longer than 12 hours will produce a permanent replay. Test the intended session length and replay workflow in the channel’s own Studio before relying on an archive for records or later viewing.

Decide who will check the stream, what to do if it stops, and whether the operating plan restarts the same stream or creates a new session. Test the schedule and restart behavior rather than treating a continuous broadcast as a single permanent video.
Prepare for failures before leaving the stream unattended
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than YouTube ingest: the source, encoder, network and power must continue working, and someone needs to notice and respond when they do not. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet and confirming that the player switches to the backup. This is a useful check, not a complete redundancy design or a promise of uninterrupted delivery.
- Test the backup path. If using a second encoder, confirm it can send the correct feed and that the player actually switches as expected when the primary is stopped.
- Check power continuity. Establish what will happen to the camera, encoder, network equipment and audio equipment during a power interruption, and test any backup power arrangements you choose.
- Plan for network loss. Identify who can investigate an outage and whether an alternative connection is available at the site. Do not assume a second network path works until it has been tested with the stream.
- Assign monitoring and response. Name the person or team checking picture, sound and stream health, and define how they will be contacted if the broadcast fails.
- Test recovery and permissions together. A restored stream can still be interrupted by a rights match or platform restriction. Keep the rights contact and the technical operator’s recovery steps available.
YouTube’s published guidance does not specify a full operating architecture for a 24/7 temple stream, a service-level guarantee, or a particular power and network redundancy plan. These need to be designed and verified for the temple’s equipment, site and staffing.

For a temple that wants to broadcast uploaded recordings or playlists, rather than a live camera view, StreamNeo can keep a YouTube stream running from the cloud. It does not go live from a camera, so it is not a substitute for the encoder workflow above when viewers need a real-time darshan feed.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add the YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home, and the stream can continue with the computer off. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made, at one price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers. Automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, once per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are accepted in India; card checkout is available worldwide. See StreamNeo plans, or start the free day.
