For an encoder, create or schedule a broadcast in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in your encoder, then check the incoming preview and stream health before going live. But a single, uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast is not a reliable way to preserve a replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a loop of prerecorded videos rather than a live camera or screen, a cloud service can run it without keeping your laptop on.
Choose the right kind of 24/7 stream
First decide what viewers will see. A laptop workflow is suited to a live camera and microphone, gameplay, screen capture, or a produced scene. A continuous loop of prerecorded videos is a different use case: YouTube’s encoder setup guidance identifies cloud-based services for that purpose, including Gyre. Those services do not turn a prerecorded loop into a live camera feed.

For an Indian channel, do not assume that a particular upload speed, power arrangement, or backup connection will work everywhere. Test from the actual streaming location and check your internet plan’s terms. If continuity matters, assess local power and network backup for your own equipment and location.
Check YouTube eligibility and prepare your channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Its current help guidance also sets a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. Set up a laptop encoder stream
- Create the broadcast: In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or schedule one. Open the stream’s settings and copy the stream URL and stream key.
- Connect your encoder: In your encoder’s stream settings, select the YouTube service if available, or enter the stream URL as the server and the stream key in the key field. Treat the key like a password: do not display it on screen or publish it. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the connection workflow.
- Choose conservative video settings: Set a resolution and bitrate that the specific laptop can encode continuously and that your measured upload connection can sustain. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. Supported video codecs in its current encoder guidance include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the current recommendations. There is no universal laptop CPU or GPU specification established for this workload.
- Use secure ingestion: YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Choose it in the encoder when available and compatible with your setup.
- Test the real workload: Use an unlisted or private test if appropriate. Include the movement, scenes, and audio you expect in the actual stream. Review the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room, then check the viewer experience. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and movement and monitoring stream health; see its live streaming tips.
- Go live: Start sending from the encoder. For a scheduled broadcast, check the incoming preview in Live Control Room and click Go live if that workflow requires it. Confirm that the broadcast is live before leaving the setup unattended.
Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube’s archive guidance says: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A single 24-hour broadcast therefore risks having no YouTube replay. YouTube also says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance.
If a complete replay matters, plan separate broadcasts shorter than 12 hours and record locally as a backup. YouTube’s operational tips advise checking local archive files and monitoring audio and video quality. Confirm that the local recording file is growing during the stream and test that it plays correctly; a local copy cannot protect against laptop, power, disk, or software failure.

Keep the laptop stream running reliably
A speed test is only a snapshot, not a guarantee of stable upload for an entire day. Test sustained performance at the intended location, then check the router, power arrangement, laptop temperature under continuous encoding, available disk space, and any backup connection you plan to rely on. These conditions vary by location and hardware; a camera, power accessory, or faster connection alone cannot guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
- Watch encoder load and temperature during a representative test so you can catch overload or heat-related instability before a long session.
- Check available storage before enabling a local recording, and verify the recording rather than assuming the encoder saved it successfully.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and audio/video output during operation, especially after a scene, network, or equipment change.
- For important archives, end and restart the broadcast before it reaches 12 hours, then verify that each session appears as expected.
