ASML and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) both report exposure to AI-related semiconductor demand, but they earn revenue in different parts of the supply chain. ASML sells lithography equipment and services to chipmakers; TSMC manufactures chips designed by its customers. In 2025, ASML’s net sales rose 15.6% to €32.7 billion, while TSMC’s consolidated revenue rose 35.9% to US$122.42 billion. Those growth rates are each company’s own-currency comparison, not a direct measure of which business is larger or a better investment.
What the latest revenue figures show
The annual figures provide the clearest like-for-like period in the available company disclosures: both cover 2025 and compare revenue with 2024. The latest reported quarterly results are for Q2 2026, but the cited releases do not supply the prior-year figures needed to calculate quarterly year-over-year growth.
| Company and period | Reported revenue | Year-over-year change | Margin context |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASML, full-year 2025 | €32.7 billion in total net sales | Up 15.6% year over year, as reported by ASML | Not stated in the cited 2025 financial overview |
| TSMC, full-year 2025 | US$122.42 billion in consolidated revenue | Up 35.9% in US-dollar terms year over year, as reported by TSMC | 59.9% gross profit margin; 50.8% operating profit margin |
| ASML, Q2 2026 | €9.326 billion in total net sales | Not stated in the cited Q2 release | 54.0% gross margin; €2.918 billion net income |
| TSMC, Q2 2026 | US$40.20 billion in net revenue | Not stated in the cited Q2 results | 67.7% gross margin |
ASML published its Q2 2026 results on July 15, 2026. ASML’s release also gives Q3 2026 sales guidance of €11–12 billion and a full-year 2026 net-sales outlook of €43–45 billion. TSMC’s Q2 2026 results page reports Q3 net-revenue guidance of US$44.6–45.8 billion. These are company forecasts, not revenue already earned.
The figures should be compared by period and business meaning, not by their raw euro and dollar totals. Currency conversion would require a specified exchange rate and date, and even a converted total would not erase the differences between an equipment supplier and a contract chip manufacturer.

Why ASML and TSMC earn revenue differently
ASML sells lithography systems and services
ASML supplies lithography systems used by semiconductor manufacturers and also earns revenue from services and field options for its installed equipment base. In its 2025 financial overview, ASML reported €16.1 billion in Logic sales, €8.4 billion in Memory sales, and €8.2 billion in net service and field-option sales, against €32.7 billion in total net sales. These categories show that revenue includes both equipment-related business and support for systems already in use.
ASML said 2025 Logic sales benefited from leading-edge foundry growth supporting strong AI demand. It linked Memory momentum to investment in high-bandwidth memory and DDR5 for AI-related applications. These are the company’s explanations of demand, not proof that AI alone caused its sales growth. See ASML’s 2025 financial overview.

TSMC manufactures customer-designed chips
TSMC describes itself as a pure-play foundry: it manufactures products designed by customers and does not design, manufacture, or market semiconductor products under its own name. In 2025, technologies at 7 nanometers and more advanced accounted for 74% of its total wafer revenue; 3-nanometer technologies accounted for 24%. These are shares of wafer revenue, not shares of total consolidated revenue.
TSMC’s revenue therefore reflects demand for manufacturing capacity and capabilities, including advanced processes and packaging, rather than sales of chip designs under its own brand. Its business model and process mix are detailed in the 2025 annual report.

How the AI connection runs through the supply chain
The two companies are connected but not interchangeable. When chipmakers and foundries plan capacity for advanced logic and memory, they may invest in the equipment and services ASML supplies. TSMC, meanwhile, earns revenue when customers use its manufacturing capabilities to produce chips. That is a supply-chain relationship inferred from their disclosed business models; the companies’ reports do not quantify a direct, fixed pass-through from AI spending to either company’s revenue.
Both companies have publicly linked demand to AI. ASML’s Q2 2026 release says continued AI-related investment and advances in AI technologies are driving demand for advanced Logic and Memory chips, and that customers are accelerating capacity expansion. ASML said this was improving its visibility into longer-term demand. In its 2025 annual report, TSMC described robust AI-related demand and expected it to continue into 2026 despite macroeconomic uncertainty; it identified advanced process technologies, advanced packaging, and chip stacking as parts of its capacity and technology response.

TSMC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer C.C. Wei wrote in the 2025 annual report: “Thus, our conviction in the AI megatrend is strengthening, and we believe the demand for semiconductors is very fundamental.” This expresses management’s view; it is not a guarantee of future revenue.

Growth rates need their own context
TSMC’s reported 2025 US-dollar revenue growth rate was higher than ASML’s reported euro-denominated growth rate. That establishes a difference between those company-reported rates for that year, not a clean ranking of business performance across equivalent revenue models. ASML sells capital equipment and services; TSMC sells manufacturing services. Their customer demand, revenue timing, and reported currency differ.

Margins are useful only when periods and measures are clear
For 2025, TSMC reported a 59.9% gross profit margin and a 50.8% operating profit margin. For Q2 2026, ASML reported a 54.0% gross margin and TSMC reported a 67.7% gross margin. The Q2 figures cover the same quarter, but the 2025 annual measures do not. Gross margin and operating margin are also different measures; neither alone establishes which company is more attractive.
Revenue growth and margins do not answer questions about capital requirements, cash flow, customer concentration, valuation, or investment risk. Those require separate evidence and analysis.
How to read the 2026 outlook
ASML’s €43–45 billion 2026 net-sales outlook and €11–12 billion Q3 sales guidance, and TSMC’s US$44.6–45.8 billion Q3 net-revenue guidance, are management expectations. They should be kept separate from reported Q2 actuals and should not be treated as guaranteed outcomes. ASML’s results archive listed October 14, 2026 as its next scheduled earnings date at the time of the July release; subsequent company announcements may change the outlook or reported figures. See ASML’s quarterly results archive.
