To run brown noise on YouTube Live around the clock, send a continuous feed of audio and visuals to YouTube through an encoder, either on a computer you maintain or through a cloud service. First make sure your channel can livestream and that you have the rights to every sound and image. Then configure the stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream key, test the preview, and monitor the broadcast. A 24/7 stream has an important trade-off: YouTube may not archive a broadcast that exceeds 12 hours, and viewer rewind may be limited or unavailable.
What you need before starting
- A channel enabled for live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check access in YouTube Studio before preparing a long broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- A continuous audio-and-video feed. An encoder sends the feed to YouTube. It can run on a computer you maintain or in a hosted service; YouTube does not promise that a particular computer or service will keep the stream running continuously.
- Brown noise and visuals you are allowed to use. Keep records of your own work or licenses covering livestream use. A still image, animation, or other visual also needs appropriate rights.
- A reliable upload connection and a monitoring plan. Leave upload-bandwidth headroom, test before launch, and decide how you will notice an outage.
Clear copyright and monetization issues first
Use audio and visuals you can livestream
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material. A match can cause YouTube to replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. If you licensed someone else’s recording, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before going live: YouTube says a stream can still be interrupted even when the content is licensed if the channel is not allowlisted. Save permission documents and keep a copy of your own source files. If a copyright notice appears during the test or broadcast, do not assume that having a license will prevent interruptions; contact the rights holder about allowlisting or replace the affected material.

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams and expect original, authentic content. The policy includes mass-produced, generic, or repetitive content as a monetization concern. That makes an unchanged brown-noise loop a risk, not a format with guaranteed approval or ad revenue. YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” on July 15, 2025, to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced formats are included. Review the current YouTube channel monetization policies and avoid promising viewers that the stream will be monetized.

Configure the broadcast in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select an encoder workflow. Set the title, description, audience and privacy options appropriate to your channel and viewers. YouTube’s entry point and requirements are described in Get started with live streaming.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter these into the encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Prepare the feed. Configure the encoder or hosted service to play your brown-noise audio and visuals continuously. Confirm the source itself loops cleanly; avoid gaps, sudden volume changes, or an unexpected end-of-file stop.
- Wait for YouTube’s preview. Start sending the feed from the encoder and confirm that Live Control Room receives it. Check the picture, sound, stream status, and watch-page accessibility before making the broadcast public.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Use the encoder and Live Control Room controls to go live. Keep an eye on encoder output, network stability, audio playback, stream status, and copyright notices. The exact controls vary by encoder; follow its current instructions rather than assuming identical labels across software.
YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers stream configuration. Do not copy HLS-specific values into a basic RTMP encoder setup: the HLS setup requirements apply to that ingestion protocol, not automatically to every encoder workflow.
Test the stream and plan for interruptions
Before announcing a 24/7 channel, run a test with the intended audio, visuals, encoder, and network. YouTube recommends checking the preview, leaving bandwidth headroom, using a reliable network, verifying that a local archive is growing and intact, and confirming that the stream is accessible. These steps reduce preventable failures; they do not guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

- Listen for silence, clipping, distortion, volume jumps, and breaks where the audio loop restarts.
- Check that the visual remains present and that the encoder does not stop after one playback cycle.
- Confirm your upload connection can sustain the chosen feed with headroom for normal variation.
- If recording locally, verify the file continues to grow and can be opened; a file that exists is not necessarily a usable backup.
- Check the public or unlisted watch page from a separate browser or device and confirm viewers can reach it.
- During operation, check the encoder and Live Control Room regularly, and have a plan to restart the feed or replace material if YouTube interrupts it.
Understand the archive and rewind limits
A continuous broadcast is not the same as a guaranteed complete replay. YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” If the broadcast exceeds 12 hours, “it may not be captured at all.” YouTube also notes that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, schedule shorter separate broadcasts instead of assuming a 24/7 stream will produce a complete archive, and keep a verified local recording backup. If you intend to leave one stream running continuously, explain on the watch page or channel that the full broadcast may not be available as a replay and that rewind may be restricted.

Choose a local encoder or a cloud service
A locally hosted encoder gives you direct control over the playback setup, but the computer, power, software, and internet connection become part of keeping the feed going. A hosted encoder shifts that ongoing operation to a service; compare what it does during a YouTube disconnection, how you monitor interruptions, what audio/video controls it offers, and whether you still need a local archive. YouTube does not specify a minimum computer configuration for this use case, so check the chosen encoder’s own requirements rather than assuming a particular mini PC or other device is required.

Common problems and fixes
