You can run prerecorded kindergarten lessons as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast with an encoder, but treat “24/7” as the hours your channel is available—not as one uninterrupted stream that YouTube will reliably archive. If you need a YouTube replay, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours and keep a local recording. Before launch, check channel eligibility, correctly mark child-directed lessons as Made for Kids, clear rights for every segment, and set up monitoring and recovery.
Plan the stream around its real requirements
A continuous recorded program is a scheduled broadcast made from prerecorded material, not a live camera feed. An encoder sends the program to YouTube Live; the encoder can be software or hardware. For kindergarten lessons with planned playback and graphics, an encoder workflow gives you control over what goes out.

Separate three goals before choosing your operating plan:
- Channel availability: viewers can find a live program throughout the day.
- Archive availability: viewers can replay past sessions on YouTube.
- Operational resilience: a playback, network, encoder, or platform interruption is noticed and handled.
These are not the same thing. YouTube’s current archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. For an archive-dependent program, use planned sessions below 12 hours and also record locally. This is a practical plan based on YouTube’s stated archive guidance, not a rule that YouTube requires you to end a stream at a particular time.

Check eligibility and choose an encoder workflow
Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says the channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also states that creators must be at least 16 to live stream. Check eligibility before building the operating schedule, especially if the channel is new or has had enforcement activity.
Use an encoder for planned prerecorded playback
YouTube supports encoder streaming as well as mobile, webcam, and console broadcasts. An encoder is the natural fit for a recorded kindergarten program because it can send a controlled playback sequence and graphics. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events, but its guidance does not make hardware mandatory for a prerecorded broadcast.
For a scheduled launch, YouTube recommends setting up the encoder stream at least two hours ahead, starting the encoder 15 minutes before the scheduled start, and checking the Live Control Room preview before beginning. For continuous operation, use these as commissioning steps; they are not a 24/7 uptime guarantee.

Set the audience accurately for kindergarten content
Review the Made for Kids factors
Kindergarten lessons are likely to be child-directed when they are intended for young children. YouTube’s audience guidance identifies early education and subject matter intended for children as relevant factors; it also points to intended audience, language, activities, songs, games, and stories. Assess the actual content and intended audience, then set the audience in YouTube Live Control Room. Do not rely on YouTube’s automated systems to decide for you.
If you are unsure how audience rules apply to your material, YouTube says it does not provide legal advice and suggests seeking legal counsel.
Design for the features that are unavailable
Made for Kids streams do not have live chat or personalized advertising. YouTube also restricts comments, notifications, Super Chat or Super Stickers, and other features. Build lessons so they work without real-time chat or those engagement tools. Contextual ads may still appear, but that is not a promise of ad delivery or revenue.

Prepare the program, rights, and playback schedule
Clear every recorded element for the intended use
YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to hold all necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Review the rights for each lesson, illustration, read-aloud, song, sound effect, and third-party video, including whether the permission covers live transmission and any replay or archive. Having access to a book, song, or video does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it. The platform terms are not a substitute for reviewing the actual license or getting legal advice.
Build a schedule that can be restarted and checked
Divide the day into planned sessions shorter than 12 hours if YouTube archives matter. Keep the program and session plan clear to viewers, and decide who will check the broadcast and respond if it stops. A longer stream can also limit or lose DVR rewind beyond 12 hours, according to YouTube’s archive guidance.
Check each program segment for both rights coverage and educational value. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams: monetized content should be the creator’s original work and not mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. The policy page says a July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and clarified that mass-produced or repetitive content is included. This does not mean every looped stream is automatically ineligible; channel and content eligibility are subject to review. Made for Kids restrictions separately disable personalized ads.

Configure and test the encoder
Choose protocol, video, and audio settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP and RTMPS, with H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video options, frame rates up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS for an encrypted connection, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Choose a quality that is reliable on the available upload connection. YouTube automatically transcodes the incoming stream for different output formats.
Bitrate recommendations depend on resolution and frame rate and can change. Check YouTube’s current bitrate table for your selected combination rather than relying on a generic number. The encoder settings page is the authority for those current values.

- Set up the live stream in YouTube Live Control Room and configure the intended audience and schedule.
- Configure the encoder to use the stream details provided by YouTube, RTMPS where supported, constant bitrate, a two-second keyframe interval, and compatible video and audio settings.
- Start a preview transmission well before the planned launch and inspect the Live Control Room preview.
- Test representative lesson content, including movement, spoken audio, music if licensed, graphics, and transitions between clips.
- Confirm the viewer experience by checking that the public or intended viewer page loads and that video and audio are usable.
- Confirm local recording is enabled and that the recording file grows during the test.
Monitor the broadcast and plan recovery
YouTube advises previewing the encoder stream, checking viewer access and archive integrity, and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. For a continuous recorded program, include operational checks that confirm:
Best Value
- the playback source is advancing rather than frozen on one frame;
- audio is audible and remains in sync;
- the viewer page is accessible;
- the local recording is still being written; and
- the encoder reconnects after a test interruption.
These checks are an operational checklist based on YouTube’s monitoring guidance, not a specific watchdog system prescribed by YouTube. Decide in advance who receives alerts and what they should do if the encoder stops, the network drops, playback stalls, or audio fails. After each session, inspect the archive and local recording rather than assuming that a successful live transmission guarantees a usable replay.
Choose an operating method that fits your team
| Operating choice | What it suits | Trade-off to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on a computer | Flexible playback, graphics, and control using equipment you already manage | The computer, encoder, and network connection must remain available and monitored while broadcasting. |
| Hardware encoder | Higher-production-value events where dedicated encoding equipment is appropriate | YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production-value events, but does not certify a particular device for unattended 24/7 kindergarten use. |
| Cloud playback service | Teams that want the uploaded program to keep streaming without leaving a home computer on | Check service fit, content rights, archive needs, and the service’s stated limits before relying on it. |
