A live setup depends on cameras, an encoder, power, network connectivity and monitoring; a prerecorded workflow needs a playout system that keeps sending video to YouTube. In both cases, plan for stream recovery, local recordings, current listing information and permission to broadcast everything viewers can see or hear.
Choose the kind of 24/7 tour you want to run
Decide whether viewers should see a live walkthrough, a scheduled rotation of recorded tours, or a mix. YouTube’s encoder workflow sends a live video feed to a watch page; it does not by itself schedule a rotation of property videos. A prerecorded rotation needs a playout system to send those files as a continuous feed.

Prerecorded tours are easier to schedule, but their details can become stale. A live camera can show a current walkthrough, but requires active production and does not automatically make listing claims accurate. Neither format removes the need to clear rights or monitor the broadcast.
Check YouTube live-stream eligibility before production day
YouTube’s getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified and have no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. It also says livestreamers must be at least 16. YouTube currently states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; consider these caps if you plan simultaneous tours for multiple properties. Check the channel’s status and the current Studio interface before scheduling.

First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder guidance. Enable and test live streaming well ahead of the first planned broadcast rather than treating the setup as a last-minute step.
Set up a live camera tour with a YouTube encoder
- Prepare the production. Connect the cameras and audio equipment to an encoder that supports your production. YouTube describes encoders as the route for external audio and video hardware and advanced productions, and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. The right model and configuration depend on your camera and workflow; no particular device is required by the YouTube setup process described here.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Enter the stream credentials. Copy the YouTube stream URL and key into the corresponding encoder fields. Treat the key as a credential: it authorizes the encoder’s feed. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s reset process and update the encoder with the replacement key.
- Configure and preview the feed. Set the encoder’s video and audio output to match the source and the choices available for the stream in YouTube Studio. The guidance available for this setup does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, frame rate or keyframe interval for every camera, encoder and connection, so do not apply a universal numeric preset without checking the device and current YouTube settings. Preview the incoming signal and confirm both picture and sound before going live.
- Go live and verify the watch page. Start the encoder’s output, confirm that YouTube receives it, and check that the watch page is accessible. Monitor the live picture and audio throughout the tour.
Keep a continuous broadcast connected and recoverable
YouTube advises checking outbound upload bandwidth, not just download speed, leaving 20% bandwidth room above the total stream bitrate, using a reliable connection and testing the setup. The 20% figure is YouTube’s network-planning guidance, not a guarantee that a particular connection will remain stable. A wired connection may suit a fixed production location, but YouTube’s guidance does not make Ethernet a requirement.
For an around-the-clock operation, assign a person or monitoring process to spot a frozen picture, missing audio, encoder disconnect or failed recording and follow a written recovery procedure. If the setup includes a backup encoder, test failover before relying on it. YouTube recommends continuous monitoring and testing configured backup-encoder failover; it does not prescribe staffing for a real estate stream.

For a prerecorded rotation
A rotation requires more than a playlist file: something must continuously play the selected videos and send the resulting feed to YouTube. Test the entire path—from the source files through the playout system and encoder to the YouTube preview—and decide who will remove or replace a tour when its property information changes. Retain the original tour files and verify what, if anything, the playout system records.

Keep the camera, encoder and network path powered and connected, and monitor for interruptions. Arrange coverage for the times when nobody is actively filming; a live camera left unattended can continue showing a scene even when the intended tour has ended. If a feed drops, check the encoder’s connection and the YouTube preview before restarting or switching to a tested backup.
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24-hour archive
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A single 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be your only recording plan if you need a complete archive.

Enable a separate local recording where the encoder supports it, confirm that the recording file is growing during the stream, and check that the resulting file is usable. Alternatively, plan a deliberate shorter-session workflow if it fits the operation. YouTube’s archive guidance does not specify how to split, schedule or join sessions for a particular continuous-stream design.
Clear property, participant and media rights before going live
YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it or terminate it. Even when you have licensed third-party content, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

- Permission to film and broadcast the property.
- Appropriate permissions or releases for identifiable occupants, visitors and staff.
- Rights for music, artwork and other third-party material visible or audible in the tour.
- A process for stopping or removing a tour if consent, listing status or rights change.
Requirements for filming, privacy, real-estate advertising and brokerage vary by location. YouTube’s platform rules do not determine what permissions apply to a particular property or jurisdiction; ask the responsible real-estate or legal professional about the locations involved.

Before adding a tour to a rotation, decide how viewers will identify the property and how the displayed or spoken price, availability and details will be kept accurate. Assign someone to review the playlist and remove or update a video when a listing changes or is no longer being marketed. Do not assume that an automated stream will update listing facts on its own.
Keep an operational record of which tours are in rotation, the relevant rights clearances and the date each listing was last checked. This is a practical way to make playlist maintenance part of the workflow rather than an occasional cleanup.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems
