You can run a continuous YouTube Pomodoro study stream by looping a recorded session in OBS, then sending that video to YouTube through its encoder-based live workflow. The loop runs on the computer hosting OBS, so the computer, OBS, power and internet connection must remain available. You can also use StreamNeo to loop uploaded recordings from the cloud instead.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for livestreaming. YouTube says channels must have no livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days; enable livestreaming in advance if needed. YouTube’s getting-started guidance explains the requirements.
- A computer running OBS Studio, the recorded Pomodoro video or playlist, and a reliable upload connection.
- Permission to stream every element in the recording, including music, ambient sound, artwork and clips. A video’s availability elsewhere online does not grant rebroadcast rights.
Decide whether viewers should see one session repeated or a playlist of different sessions. Also decide whether a complete replay matters: YouTube’s archive and DVR behavior puts limits on uninterrupted broadcasts lasting a day or longer.
Set up the looping video in OBS
Loop one recorded session
- Open OBS and select or create the scene you will use for the study stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name.
- In the source properties, enable Loop, select the recorded video file, and confirm the preview plays and returns to the beginning when it ends.
- Check that the source’s audio is audible and remains synchronized throughout playback. Test the actual file; supported containers do not guarantee that every codec or file will play correctly on your setup.
Cycle through multiple sessions
- Add a VLC Video source in OBS and create or select a playlist of recordings.
- Enable Loop Playlist for continuous playback. Choose whether to shuffle if you want sessions in a different order rather than a fixed sequence.
- Play the playlist through a full cycle, checking transitions, audio levels and synchronization before using it on a public stream.
OBS documents the Media Source and VLC Video source controls in its media sources guide. The looping happens in OBS, not on YouTube: if OBS stops or the computer loses power, the feed can stop too.
Create the YouTube live stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to reach Live Control Room. Create a stream or schedule one, then choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the process.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from Live Control Room into OBS under Settings > Stream. Use the server URL and key YouTube provides for that stream.
- Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it in screenshots, recordings or public messages. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- Start the OBS stream and wait for the preview and stream-health indicators in Live Control Room. If the stream is scheduled, use the appropriate Live Control Room action to make it public at the intended time.
- Before relying on a long broadcast, run a private or unlisted test. Confirm the watch page works, playback loops, the audio is right and the stream remains healthy for long enough to reveal problems.
Choose bitrate, resolution and latency
Set OBS to a resolution and frame rate your source and connection can sustain. A study stream with a mostly static timer and desk scene may not need a high frame rate; prioritize readable text, clean audio and a stable feed. YouTube’s figures below are its encoder recommendations checked in 2026, not guarantees that a particular setup will perform well.

| Output | Codec | YouTube minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p, 30 fps | H.264 | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p, 30 fps | H.264 | 3 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p, 30 fps | AV1 or H.265 | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p, 30 fps | AV1 or H.265 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
In OBS, use a constant bitrate (CBR) rate control for RTMP/RTMPS and set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds. Prefer RTMPS when available to encrypt the feed. These settings and the codec-specific bitrate recommendations are in YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.
Keep upload capacity in reserve: YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the stream bitrate, and more may be needed if you are sending a backup stream as well. Test while other household or office traffic is occurring, since shared upload use can change the available capacity. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream; its streaming tips recommend testing with motion and audio similar to the real broadcast.

For a prerecorded study room, ordinary latency is generally reasonable unless you plan to interact with viewers in near real time. YouTube defines stream latency as the delay between capture by the encoder or camera and display on the stream; lower latency can increase buffering. See Manage live stream settings.
Rights, archives and viewer rewind
Clear the recording for live rebroadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material that remains in the broadcast, it may replace, interrupt or terminate the stream. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: the rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and clear music, background audio and visual material before broadcasting.

Do not promise a full replay of a 24-hour stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including broadcasts over 12 hours. It does not establish that an uninterrupted 24/7 stream will produce one complete replay or let viewers rewind the whole broadcast. See YouTube’s live stream archive and DVR information.
If complete replays matter, consider ending and restarting the broadcast in shorter segments, then test how the resulting streams appear on your channel before making that a regular schedule. A segmented plan is a practical workaround to evaluate, not a guarantee of a particular archive result.

Keep a local OBS stream running
A local loop relies on four things staying up: the computer, OBS, electrical power and internet. YouTube advises reliable connectivity and notes that a disruption can break the stream. Monitor Live Control Room and have a way to restart OBS and the broadcast if either stops. A UPS battery backup can help with brief power interruptions, but it does not provide internet service or guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that OBS is streaming, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the key belongs to the stream currently open in Live Control Room.
- The stream key may have been exposed: Reset it in Live Control Room, then update OBS. Do not keep using a compromised credential.
- Video ends instead of repeating: Check Loop on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source. Replay the file or playlist in OBS before going live.
- Playback buffers or stream health degrades: Reduce output bitrate or resolution, check available upload capacity, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Test again under realistic network use.
- Audio is missing or out of sync: Check the source’s audio output and OBS audio meters, then test the whole recording. If the file itself plays incorrectly, try a supported file or codec rather than assuming the stream settings will fix it.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Review the material in the recording for claimed music, clips or other third-party content. Check whether rights clearance and any required Content ID allowlisting cover live use.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: This can be a DVR limitation on a very long stream. If extended replay access is important, test shorter broadcast segments rather than assuming a 24-hour stream is fully rewindable.
