To run a 24/7 lofi radio stream on YouTube with OBS, prepare music and visuals you have permission to broadcast, enable live streaming on your channel, configure OBS to send a continuous feed, and keep the computer and internet connection running. OBS starts the encoder feed; YouTube Studio controls the broadcast. A local setup can fail if the computer, OBS, power, source files, or connection stops, so rehearse recovery before you announce the stream.
Before you set up the stream
Enable YouTube live streaming early
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and its Help guidance states that live streamers must be at least 16. First-time live access verification can take 24 hours, so enable it at least a day before your planned test. Review YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements for your account.
Clear the music and visuals
Secure permissions that cover the music’s use in the livestream, rebroadcast, and any audio or video on demand (VOD) archive. Check the license for its territories, term, monetization terms, and archive rights. Labels such as “copyright free” or “royalty free,” and giving an artist credit, do not by themselves establish that you have those permissions. Keep the license terms and track list somewhere you can retrieve them.
Use an original or properly licensed illustration, animation, or visual loop. Match the file and scene to your chosen output canvas, then inspect the OBS preview for cropping, black bars, and visual glitches. A prepared-music stream does not require a microphone or audio interface.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Decide how to handle archives
Google’s 2025 live-production guide says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” For streams longer than 12 hours, it recommends that the creator’s team record the program for manual upload. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a reliable way to preserve a single complete VOD. If an archive matters, plan separate local recording, file storage, and upload arrangements, and make sure the music license covers them. See Google’s live-production guidance.
Configure YouTube Studio and OBS
1. Create or select the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream or broadcast, then enter its title, description, privacy, and other channel settings. YouTube recommends managing live streams in Studio.
- Copy the stream key associated with the selected stream. Treat it like a password: do not show it in your stream, screenshots, or public posts.
YouTube’s API documentation distinguishes a continuing liveStream encoder feed from liveBroadcast objects, which represent broadcasts. It describes an arrangement where one incoming feed can support continuous programming while individual broadcasts start and end. That API model can help explain the platform’s architecture, but a standard OBS setup can be managed through YouTube Studio without building an API integration. See YouTube’s broadcast resource documentation.

2. Set up the OBS scene
- In OBS, create a scene and add the prepared lofi audio source and visual loop. Confirm that the correct files are selected and that playback loops as intended.
- Open OBS’s YouTube streaming configuration and enter the stream key for the stream you selected in Studio. A mismatched key can prevent the expected stream from starting.
- Set the output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate based on your intended picture quality, computer, scene complexity, and upload connection. Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations for the selected resolution rather than treating one bitrate as universal. OBS’s setup guide points to YouTube’s bitrate guidance, recommends a 16:9 aspect ratio to avoid black bars, and lists 30 or 60 fps as options.
There is no universal minimum computer specification established for every OBS lofi stream. Requirements depend on the output settings and what the scene asks the system to process. Check OBS’s dropped-frame and rendering indicators during testing, and leave headroom rather than choosing settings solely for the highest possible resolution.
3. Start the encoder, then confirm the broadcast
- Start streaming in OBS. This sends the encoder feed to YouTube; it does not necessarily mean the viewer-facing broadcast is already live.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, wait for the incoming preview and status to show that YouTube is receiving the feed. Confirm the audio is audible and the image is correct.
- Use Studio to take the broadcast live when that workflow requires it. Check the public or unlisted viewer-facing stream, not just the OBS preview.
Run a full rehearsal before announcing it

- Music plays at a steady level, without silence, clipping, or unwanted overlap at loop boundaries.
- The visual loop runs without freezing, unintended cropping, or black bars.
- OBS is not reporting persistent dropped frames or rendering problems.
- The intended YouTube stream has the correct title, privacy, and broadcast state.
- No rights or Content ID notice appears during the test. A clean rehearsal does not guarantee that a later broadcast will be free of claims or interruptions.
- The computer stays awake, the source files remain available, and the connection remains usable for the duration you plan to operate.
What a local 24/7 OBS setup depends on
YouTube supports a broadcast arrangement for continuous programming, but that does not keep a local encoder alive. With OBS on your own computer, the host must stay powered and awake, OBS must keep running, the audio and visual sources must remain accessible, and the upload connection must hold up. Power loss, sleep settings, operating-system updates, a crash, a moved file, or a network outage can interrupt the feed.
Test how your particular computer behaves after sleep, updates, and restarts, and check whether OBS reconnects as expected after a temporary connection loss. A scheduled restart or watchdog may suit some setups, but Google and OBS do not prescribe one universal method. Do not promise an uninterrupted stream unless you have measured its performance under your own operating conditions.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the feed | OBS is not streaming, or the key does not match the selected YouTube stream. | Confirm OBS is sending and copy the key again from the intended stream in Live Control Room. Keep the key private. |
| OBS is streaming but the broadcast is not public | The encoder feed has started, but the broadcast may still need to be taken live in Studio. | Check the incoming preview and status in Live Control Room, then use its controls to take the broadcast live if required. |
| Viewers hear silence or distorted audio | The wrong source may be selected, playback may have stopped, or levels may be too low or clipping. | Check the active audio source and meters in OBS, then listen to the YouTube preview or viewer-facing stream. |
| Video has black bars or an unexpected crop | The visual source does not fit the output canvas or aspect ratio. | Check the scene and output canvas; YouTube-oriented guidance recommends 16:9 to avoid black bars. |
| Frames drop or the image stutters | The selected output, encoder workload, computer, or upload connection may exceed available capacity. | Check OBS indicators and reduce output demands or improve connection capacity as appropriate; retest at the settings you intend to use. |
| The stream stops when unattended | The computer slept, OBS or the operating system stopped, files became unavailable, or connectivity failed. | Review power and sleep settings, updates, source locations, and reconnection behavior. Test recovery before relying on unattended operation. |
| A stream is missing from archives or ends without a complete VOD | Long continuous streams are not a dependable single-file archive plan. | Follow the archive guidance: streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for longer ones, make your own recording for manual upload. |
| A music rights notice appears | The track or intended use may not be covered by the rights you hold. | Review the license for livestream, rebroadcast, and archive permissions, and follow YouTube’s notice or restriction process. |
Follow YouTube’s rules and protect the channel
Livestreams must comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may remove or restrict streams, and account restrictions can have consequences for live access. Read the current YouTube live-streaming requirements before launch. Rights clearance and technical testing reduce avoidable risks; neither guarantees that a stream will stay online or avoid a claim.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer and connection to be part of the always-on chain, StreamNeo is a cloud option for continuous YouTube playback from uploaded videos. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is a hosted alternative to operating the OBS setup above, rather than a camera-based streaming tool.
