To review Google-added promotions, open Campaigns > Assets, filter Asset type to Promotion, and look for Google AI in the Added by column. To turn the feature on or off, open Account level automated assets > More > Advanced settings and change Automated promotions.
What Google Ads automated promotions do
Automated promotions let Google Ads find offers on your website, validate them, and potentially attach them to eligible ads. For example, Google gives “20% off on black sweaters” as the kind of offer the system can identify. Google’s description of the feature is in its About Automated promotions help page.

This is an account-level automated asset setting; it does not mean Google is automatically applying recommendations. Those are a separate control on the Recommendations page.
How to find and inspect Google-added promotions
- In Google Ads, open Campaigns > Assets.
- In the filter bar, choose Asset type > Promotion.
- Check the Added by column. Google-added automated promotions are labeled Google AI.
- Hover over Google AI to see sourcing details. Hover over the promotion name to inspect additional asset information, such as its headline.
If no Google AI promotion appears, check whether the campaign meets the eligibility conditions below before assuming the setting is malfunctioning.

Which campaigns can use automated promotions?
Google’s current help documentation lists these conditions for automated promotions:
- The campaign is an active Search or Performance Max campaign.
- The campaign has location assets.
- No manual promotion is currently running on that campaign.
- The campaign and promotion comply with standard Google Ads policies.
Google says the system bypasses a campaign that already has manual promotions running. The feature’s eligibility is therefore narrower than simply having automated promotions enabled at the account level. For current details, see Google’s Automated promotions help.

How to turn automated promotions on or off
- Open Campaigns > Assets.
- Open the More menu and select Account level automated assets.
- On that page, open More > Advanced settings.
- Find Automated promotions and choose On or Off. Google may ask you to select a reason when turning the feature off.
The switch controls automated promotions at account level. It does not replace checking whether a particular campaign meets the requirements to serve them. Google’s instructions are in About Automated promotions and its account-level automated assets overview.

Automated or manual: which should you use?
| Decision | Automated promotions | Manual promotion assets |
|---|---|---|
| Who supplies the offer | Google sources and validates offers from your website. | You enter the promotional details. |
| Control over the offer | Less manual setup, but Google determines which eligible website offers to use. | Greater control over offer details and dates. |
| Where it can apply | Eligible Search or Performance Max campaigns with location assets and no manual promotion currently running. | Can be added at account or campaign level. If both levels have assets, the campaign-level asset overrides the account-level asset. |
| Where to review it | Assets filtered to Promotion; identify Google AI in Added by. | Manage promotion assets in Assets. |
Choose a manual promotion asset when the exact wording or start and end dates matter. Google recommends manually adding specific promotions for that level of control. Its promotion assets guide explains manual assets and their account- and campaign-level behavior.
Understand the time limit on automatically sourced offers
Google’s current help page says each automated promotion is eligible to serve for less than 24 hours. After that, Google may re-enable it if its systems can continuously verify that the offer remains visibly available on your website. Google also says this behavior is expected to change as its extraction of offer start and end dates improves. This is not the same as setting a precise schedule yourself; use a manual asset when exact dates are important. See About Automated promotions.

Automated promotions source promotional offers from your website and can add them to eligible ads. Automatically applied recommendations are a separate feature that applies selected recommendations to an account. Review and control recommendation auto-apply under Recommendations > Auto-apply settings; the Recommendations page also has Manage and History views. Google documents that separate process in About applying recommendations automatically and Manage auto-apply recommendations.
